The treatment of nature by the English Romantic poets of the nineteenth century is commonly thought to be confined to the poetry of Wordsworth. Although the bulk of Wordsworth's poetry is concerned with nature, a study of the poetry of the period reveals that the other great Romanticists were also interested in nature. This thesis is written to show how great a factor the treatment of nature is in the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

In his "Mounring Becomes Electra", Eugene O'Neill has taken a great and renowed classical theme and has given it a modern interpretation in the light of his interest in Freudian psychology. In this thesis I have tried to show first the chief details in connection with the Orestea theme as it is given to us by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. I have then analyzed the characters in the Greek dramas since Eugene O'Neill's primary interest in his character.

The study was prompted by a desire to settle in my own mind, by an unprejudiced search through the records, the question concerning the Law of Pardon to which I had heard many varying answers.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of M. Leon Frapie's works is his choice of characters.  They are not chosen from the fashionable, aristocratic or intellectual class, but from among the humblest of the wage-earning class.  M Frapie depicts the drabness, ignorance and poverty which oppress these people, and perceives with his keen sensibilities the commonplace tragedy of their lives and of the lives of their children.  His own emotion becomes the medium by which a bond of sympathy toward them is transferred to the reader.

The purpose of the following study has been to consider the consecutive interpretations of the Tristan legend in English literature down to the present century. In order to appreciate their comparative fidelity to the spirit of the lost primitive poem, it was first necessary to examine the metrical romance of Thomas, "who may be said," writes William Henry Schofield, "to represent the highest achievement of any English poet in the twelfth century," along with other derivatives used in the scholarly and poetic reconstruction, made by Joseph Bedier, of that hypothetical original creation.

When the new government of the United States was put into operation, one of the first tasks with which it had to deal was that of filling offices, in order that the Constitution and the laws passed under it might be enforced.  President Washington, whose chief characteristics were good judgment and punctilious exactness, was allowed to use his discretion in the question of qualifications.  He realized the difference between appointing men barely fit to fill their offices, and appointing those who were most fit.
