Radio "give away" programs are those productions which offer some type of reward to a participant for his efforts on the program. This person mayor may not be present at the actual broadcast. This type of program is of recent origin, but it is rapidly becoming one of the more outstanding forms of radio entertainment.

In a symphonic literary work such as Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, the individual themes which interweave to produce the complex counterpoint of the whole unit can hardly be sufficiently treated in one essay. To avoid such confusion we shall, then, consider only the musical themes and references as they parallel the personality development of Hans Castorp. Through this chronological presentation of references we may observe the evolution of character in musical symbols carefully chosen to express the first simplicity and final complexity of the novel's central character.

It is a tribute to Milton's genius to study his delicate line of demarcation between the treatment of death in "Marchioness of Winchester" and "Death of a Fair Infant." In the latter poem, Mi.lton imbues his work with a tone of comfort and hope-a tone which we do not find in the former poem. Of course, we must keep in mind the fact that in "Death of a Fair Infant," Milton was emotionally connected with the deceased, and would naturally inject his lines with a note of personal grief and sympathy for the bereaved. When Milton wrote his great sonnet, "On the Late Massacre in Piedmont," he had just been engaged in one of the most bitter Controversies in his life. In an anonymous pamphlet he had been attacked as a "monster, ugly, huge, bereft of sight," and he answered these charges in even more violent language. After this bitterness had passed, Milton brought forth the eloquent eighteenth sonnet, believed by many critics to be his greatest.

Legal historians divide European law into two principal families: common law (British law) and civil law (continental European law). Common law judges favor cases; courts “discover” law on a case-by-case basis and those cases make precedents for future ruling. Civil law courts favor codes; courts compare cases to existing laws and those laws control judges’ rulings. The two rarely interact, save one prominent example: Canada. British common law supposedly superseded French legal traditions in colonial Canada. But is history so binary? Did British common law truly “conquer” French civil law? By uncovering an example of the kind of interdisciplinary artistic collaboration that contributed to the thriving artistic environment of the early twentieth century, a model for artistic success emerges. By examining modernism and Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in relation to Christopher Wheeldon’s groundbreaking 2011 ballet Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a correlation between the success of the Ballets Russes and the success of Wheeldon is exposed. Past research examining the effects of emotion on memory has documented that individuals find material more memorable when the emotional valence of the information is consistent with their mood state. While these mood-congruency effects have been applied to different contexts, one situation that has not been investigated is the effects of language on mood-congruency in bilinguals. This study explored mood-congruency effects in English and Spanish bilinguals by inducing a happy or sad mood and examining between-language and within-language memory for positive, neutral, or negative information. The Perpetuation Of Graffiti Art Subculture, Camille Lannert

Graffiti art and the subculture that supports it is a form of graffiti that differs from gang graffiti, immediate graffiti, and street art. This research is a qualitative analysis using partial participant observation of a graffiti art subculture in a Midwestern city. Six themes which characterize this subculture were individual identity, communication, competition, criminality, aesthetic criteria, and changing forms of communication. The implications of the findings for labeling theory and differential association theories are discussed.

Death, as a thematic and narrative motif, is of particular import to the Naturalistic literary approach. This is extremely evident in the work of James Joyce, on whom the Naturalist movement had a notable influence. Throughout his career Joyce utilized the subtext surrounding death in the father-son relationship to criticize Irish culture as it appears in his works. However, Joyce was not content to simply recreate a textbook interpretation of Naturalism.
