How To Survive The Apocalypse, Stephen Asma
How To Survive The Apocalypse, Stephen Asma
Stephen T Asma
The article presents a guide on how people with skepticism and critical thinking can survive the Rapture and Armageddon. According to the Book of Revelations, the Lord will return to the earth to separate the good and the bad. When the Great Tribulation comes, people have no more time for repentance. The impostor strategy is one way to avoid the Tribulation.

An Experimental Approach To Syllable Weight And Stress In Spanish, Michael Shelton
An Experimental Approach To Syllable Weight And Stress In Spanish, Michael Shelton

This work examines the cognitive representation of phonotactic constraints on Spanish stress via the collection of behavioral data. Critical stimuli in four experiments consist of non-words that violate the Spanish stress window. Experiment 1 finds statistical differences among latency and accuracy data for stimuli that represent theoretic ally proscribed sequences, theoretically licit sequences that are unattested for diachronic reasons, and fully licit gaps. Experiments 2 and 3 find differential patterning of rising and falling diphthongs. Experiment 4 tests the time course of phonological encoding and evidences differential treatment of both diphthong types across delays in a delayed naming task . …

Examining The Profession Through The Lens Of Social Justice: Two Music Educators’ Stories And Their Stark Realizations, Betty Anne Younker, Maud Hickey

How do issues of equity inform music teaching and learning? What does it mean to teach music through the lens of social justice with social consciousness? The two authors of this paper challenged each other to reflect on these questions and how they pertain, past and present, to their lives as performers, pedagogues, and researchers in various educational settings. In our examination, we explored evidence, if any, of social justice within spaces that typically define school-based music programs and classrooms, and Schools of Music practices.

Dinosaurs On The Ark: Natural History And The New Evangelical Museum, Stephen Asma
Dinosaurs On The Ark: Natural History And The New Evangelical Museum, Stephen Asma
Stephen T Asma
This article examines the Creation Museum in Kentucky. Featured at the museum is a replica of Noah's Ark. The author notes that there is some fudging going on to fit all the supposedly transported animals in such a small vessel. According to the museum, the Grand Canyon was not millions of years in the making but appeared after the flood. The evangelical museum is an offshoot of the Answers in Genesis ministry. Ken A. Ham is the director of the museum as well as the head of the ministry. He says that the notion of evolution has done more harm …

Alice Munro's "Walker Brothers Cowboy" (The Norton Anthology of World Literature. Ed. Sarah Lawall. NY: Norton, 2002) is bracketed by similar images that establish the futility of trying to stop time. At the beginning of story, in order to explain to the narrator how the glaciers formed the Great Lakes, the father "shows me his hand with his spread fingers pressing the rock-hard ground where we are sitting. His fingers hardly make any impression at all ... " (3012); at the conclusion as Ben Jordan, the father, and his children prepare to return home from their odyssey, Nora Cronin touches …

Taking Note: Text And Context In Virginia Woolf's "Mr. Bennett And Mrs. Brown", Eve Sorum
Taking Note: Text And Context In Virginia Woolf's "Mr. Bennett And Mrs. Brown", Eve Sorum
Eve C Sorum
In this article I argue that the note attached to “Mr. Bennett and Mrs. Brown,” which states that it was “A paper read to the Heretics, Cambridge, on May 18, 1924," is central to our interpretation of Woolf’s essay, especially in relation to contexts that politicize, historicize, or aestheticize the text. I trace the different manifestations of "Mr. Bennett and Mrs. Brown" in order to reveal the contextual and textual ways in which Woolf and the organs in which she published directed interpretation and dealt with the essay as an aesthetic object enmeshed in history. The note will prove an …
