Alba Emoting: A Safe, Effective, And Versatile Technique For Generating Emotions In Acting Performance, Angela Katherine Baker
Alba Emoting: A Safe, Effective, And Versatile Technique For Generating Emotions In Acting Performance, Angela Katherine Baker
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis proposes that Alba Emoting™ is a safe, effective, and versatile technique of generating emotions for acting performance. Alba Emoting is safe because it resolves four major problems some actors experience while generating emotions for acting performance. These problems include, &ldqup;emotional hijacking,” “emotional hangover,” “emotional blockage,” and using emotional memories which are faded, incomplete, inconsistent, or full of mixed emotions. Alba Emoting solves these four problems through the help of certified trainers, the step-out procedure, and the emotional effector patterns, which allow actors consistent access to a large range of emotions. Alba Emoting is effective because it enables actors …
Review: Dancing From Past To Present: Nation, Culture, Identities (Madison, 2006); Dance And Society: Dancer As A Cultural Performer. Re-Appraising Our Past, Moving Into The Future (Budapest, 2005), Anthony Shay
Pomona Faculty Publications and Research
The large international participation of scholars, many of them young graduate students, in the recent CND/CORD/SDHS conference in Paris (June 21-27, 2007), along with new publications in the field and the spread of world dance courses in colleges and universities in many regions of the world, suggest the need for increasingly sophisticated research publications. New publications featuring the works of well-known senior scholars are cause for celebration by those of us attempting to meet research and student demand for new sources of information that feature new conceptual, theoretical, and methodological approaches. In the past few years scholars have produced an …

Victor Herbert: A Theatrical Life, Neil Gould
Victor Herbert: A Theatrical Life, Neil Gould
Biography
Victor Herbert is one of the giants of American culture. As a musician, conductor, and, above all, composer, he touched every corner of American musical life at the turn of the century, writing scores of songs, marches, concerti, and other works. But his most enduring legacy is on a different kind of stage, as one of the grandfathers of the modern musical theater.
Now, Victor Herbert has the biography he deserves. Neil Gould draws on his own experience as a director, producer, and scholar to craft the first comprehensive portrait in fifty years of the Irish immigrant whose extraordinary talents …

This thesis is a picture of my journey as an educator. I taught at the University level from Fall 2001 – Summer 2006 before I became a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Theatre Pedagogy where I continued to teach until 2008. A Study Of The Life And Work Of Christopher Durang: Laughing Wild Amidst Severest Woe, Jeannine M. James
A Study Of The Life And Work Of Christopher Durang: Laughing Wild Amidst Severest Woe, Jeannine M. James
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis maps Durang's struggle with faith and demonstrates how his personal journey to discover and document his pain acts as a catalyst for his creative work. It will explore his style of masking and unmasking himself in his characters revealing his innermost pain and suffering. I also surmise that his work serves as a kind of therapy by allowing him to constantly unravel and unveil his investigation of self.
This thesis examines Christopher Durang's personal history and family struggles in an effort to understand the experiences that shaped the work of one of America's premier authors of absurdist comedy. …
Storming The Castle: Non-Secular Subversion Of The Pas D'Armes In The Castle Of Perseverance, John Moss
Storming The Castle: Non-Secular Subversion Of The Pas D'Armes In The Castle Of Perseverance, John Moss
Theses and Dissertations
It is important to remember that the categories of medieval performance were established far removed from their period in history. As a genre, the morality play includes a wide diversity of time, geography, content and performance styles. Such disparities have made it difficult to develop a comprehensive definition, without which comparisons between works cannot be consistent. As scholarship continues to explore these works in context of their performance, it becomes increasingly important to identify which performance styles best inform their production. In examining The Castle of Perseverance within the parameters of pas d’armes, new meanings can be drawn from its …

Body Doubles, Babel's Voices: Katie Mitchell's Iphigenia At Aulis And The Theatre Of Sacrifice, Kim Solga
Department of English Publications
What happens to a body when circumstance demands it enact its own forgetting? What reaction in turn does a body in the process of violent self-erasure prompt in its spectators? These and related questions propel my investigation of Katie Mitchell's 2004 National Theatre production of Euripedes' Iphigenia at Aulis. Mitchell's chilling representation of Iphigenia's final moments, during which the young girl speaks with apparently patriotic fervour her willingness to be murdered for her nation's sake, embeds the very loss that such a performance of sacrifice typically elides. The result: two bodies collide on stage before our eyes - the compliant, …
