Technical Direction Of Paragon Springs, Christine Ann Donaghy May 2013

Technical Direction Of Paragon Springs, Christine Ann Donaghy

Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film: Theses, Student Research, and Creative Work

My thesis show, Paragon Springs, is a play based on An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen. My first reading of the show leads me to hope that this undertaking will be profitable for all concerned. Paragon Springs, like the Ibsen play on which it is based, takes place in more than one location. This will contribute to my chances of having a set that might be a little more complicated and challenging than a basic unit set. My first concern was staging the show in the Studio and knowing we would have a smaller budget than …

Performance Of The Role Of Stanley Kowalski In Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, William Justin Walker

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The truth in acting comes from living truthfully under imaginary circumstances. For partial fulfillment of my degree, I sought to bring this truth to the stage for the role of Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire. In addition, I played the role of Reach in Lee Blessing's Down the Road.

Influências De Augusto Boal No Teatro Político Argentino, Jualiano Borba May 2013

Influências De Augusto Boal No Teatro Político Argentino, Jualiano Borba

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

Ler É Traduzir: Ressonâncias Dos Escritos E Práticas De Augusto Boal Na Amazônia Acreana, Maria Do P. Socorro Calixto Marques

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

Teatro Legislativo: Estimulando A Ciudadanía Ativa, Mark Dinneen May 2013

Teatro Legislativo: Estimulando A Ciudadanía Ativa, Mark Dinneen

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

Psicodrama, Sociodrama Y Teatro Del Oprimido De Augusto Boal: Analogías Y Diferencias, Beliza Castillo May 2013

Psicodrama, Sociodrama Y Teatro Del Oprimido De Augusto Boal: Analogías Y Diferencias, Beliza Castillo

Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

Considering Strasberg’S Method In The Twenty-First Century: A New Pedagogy, Terry Hardcastle May 2013

Considering Strasberg’S Method In The Twenty-First Century: A New Pedagogy, Terry Hardcastle

Theses and Dissertations

Student of Richard Boleslavsky and Maria Ouspenskaya, co-founder of the Group Theatre, Artistic Director of the Actors Studio, founder of the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, and developer of The Method, Lee Strasberg is one of the most famous acting teachers of the twentieth century. In the same way a concert pianist must practice her scales daily to maintain expertise, Strasberg believed an actor must regularly practice the use of sense memory to be emotionally authentic. Using Strasberg’s Method, this is achieved through a combination of relaxation and concentration, which leads to a sense of truth in performance. The …

Women As Victims In Tennessee Williams' First Three Major Plays, Ruth Foley May 2013

Women As Victims In Tennessee Williams' First Three Major Plays, Ruth Foley

Masters Theses

Although Tennessee Williams does not openly champion the rights of women in his plays, he presents strong cases against their social alienation in a harsh and brutal world governed by men. Williams' emotional leanings, sensitivity, and intuition enable him to see life through women's eyes. In The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Summer and Smoke, Williams astutely sounds the battle cry for women to fight against male oppression. He shows how Amanda Wingfield, Laura Wingfield, Blanche Dubois, Stella Kowalski, and Alma Winemiller are held hostage to the rules governing patriarchal society and become unhappy marginalized victims. The self-contained …

Selected Projects: Lighting Design And Technical Direction, Joshua K. Wilson May 2013

Selected Projects: Lighting Design And Technical Direction, Joshua K. Wilson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The Three Musketeers was directed by Professor Colin Johnson and produced on the Morgan Stage at Utah State University in April of 2011. The earliest meetings for The Three Musketeers occurred in January 2011. The first big concern was the cinematic nature of the script by Ken Ludwig. This script required twenty different physical locations with very little space textually to transition between these locations. The best way to contend with this challenge was to create a world representative of the culture and feel of France during the 1620s. The iconographies created by the images are very distinct, but are …

Decoding Acting Vocabulary, Daniel Granke Apr 2013

Decoding Acting Vocabulary, Daniel Granke

Theses and Dissertations

This paper compares seemingly similar words from a variety of acting teachers, and shows how it is impossible to draw clear comparisons between words that are often used as synonyms. The paper is a reflection of the journey from believing in translation to recognizing its impossibility. In Chapter 1 we focus on one of the most common elements in actor training, Attention/focus/concentration, and analyze the shades of meaning in those words and the difficulty of talking about them in isolation. In Chapter 2 we look at the way in which semiotic analysis can explain the words resistance to equivalence. In …
