Vortex In A Cauldron Of Evil: A Set Design For Macbeth, Vincent T. Niehaus Jr. Jan 1984

Vortex In A Cauldron Of Evil: A Set Design For Macbeth, Vincent T. Niehaus Jr.

Theses

This thesis, Vortex in a Cauldron of Evil: A Set Design for Macbeth, explores the creation of a theatrical set inspired by the themes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the macabre imagery associated with Charles Manson. The set design emphasizes Macbeth's descent into chaos and his struggle against forces he cannot control, symbolized by the theme “Vortex in a Cauldron of Evil.” The project incorporates elements like barren trees, lifeless skulls, and bloodied imagery to parallel Manson’s infamous legacy with Macbeth’s moral corruption. The thesis also details the design process, historical context, and artistic techniques used to evoke this dark …

The Use Of Music And Art As Directorial Tools In A Production Of Kevin O'Morrison's Ladyhouse Blues, Roseann Sheridan Jan 1984

The Use Of Music And Art As Directorial Tools In A Production Of Kevin O'Morrison's Ladyhouse Blues, Roseann Sheridan

Theses and Dissertations

Human beings make decisions every minute of the day. These decisions are based upon need, desire, impulse, mood, and knowledge. As we grow older, we learn skills in decision-making primarily through trial-and-error. The theatre artist, likewise, is constantly searching for new skills and techniques to aid this process. In life and in art, however, decision-making is not totally grounded in intellect but includes inst1inctive and emotional sensations. It is through finely blending intuitive responses with intellectual skills that a work of theatre art can be produced. In order to accomplish this blending however, the director needs first to identify his …

Performance In Family Narratives: An Ethnographic Study Of Oral Interpretation Components, Cathryn Anne Elmer-Baldner

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Current folklore researchers have described the telling of family narratives as performance. The purpose of this study was to identify performance behaviors used by a selected narrator of family stories. Using oral interpretation of prose as a performance model, this researcher proposed that behaviors recognized as performance in oral interpretation were also utilized by the family storyteller. This study was designed to collect and analyze video-taped telling of family stories to determine whether the behaviors demonstrated by the family narrator in telling the story were comparable to behaviors associated with oral interpretation performance. This study assumed that (1) oral interpretation …
