The RISD Rag was a student publication released in the spring of 1972, first on a monthly basis and later on a bi-weekly basis. The issue of January 1972 included an article about the local food co-ops, and the lack of diversity in the RISD faculty and at the RISD Museum. Support was wanted for farm workers and there was an appeal for a sick child. Voter registration information was listed for each state and parking ticket information for Providence was provided. "Many logicians are familiar with the game theoretic approach to semantics, due to Jaakko Hintikka. This paper by me contains class notes of a logic course at Boston University in fall 1972. It has similar game theoretic ideas, developed quite independently, but influenced by the work of A. Ehrenfeucht. It applies to a larger class of logics, including classical logic, intuitionistic logic and the *-semantics of Ehrenfeucht. The treatment is via D-structures which are finite approximations of infinite structures. Introduction

The philosophy and objectives underlying the Rhode Island State Scholarship Program encompassed severa1 basic assumptions about secondary education. Some of these assumptions have changed substantially over the past fifteen years and deserve close consideration. The new emphasis toward equalizing educational opportunities had been reflected in the changing philosophy that guided the administration of student financial aid. The genesis of most aid programs could be found in a concept that fostered the belief in a system built entirely upon meritocracy. This approach provided aid to students with high achievement and measured potential, irrespective of financial need. Educators seeing the inequity …

The Relationship Of Self-Concept Changes And Performance On A Paired-Associates Learning Task To Communication Skills Training, Grace Hayden Blanchard

The study examined the relationship of Communication Skills training to attitudes toward the self and to rate of learning. Sixty fifth-grade subjects from two public school classrooms were tested twice, before and after treatment, on the Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale and a Paired- Associates Learning task. The latter test, administered orally and individually, consisted of ten pictures of common objects. All ten pairs were shown to each subject after which only the first picture of each pair was presented and the subject was asked to recall its picture-associate. This essay attempts to use the philosophy of politics and history of George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel to interpret a contemporary situation--the Vietnam War. The gradual involvement of America in Vietnam is illustrated by the use of Hegel's dialectic or logic. Internal problems and strife are put in perspective by Hegel's political philosophy. Problems arise because general theories must always ignore particulars in a concrete situation such as Vietnam. But Hegel's view of the world is generally applicable to the twentieth century.

Dr. O'Sullivan traces the process leading to the passage of the 1968 British Abortion Act and the consequences of that act with a view to helping the American medical profession learn from the British experience.

This article discusses the effect that legalized abortion has had upon the people, and particularly the physicians, in England. Although New York State, among others, has now legalized abortion, it has not had sufficient experience with it to adequately assess its effects. But the English have had sufficient experience with it, and its effects there indicate that attempts to legalize abortion demand close watching.
