Slåtter, Norwegian Peasant Dances, Op. 72 is a composition for solo piano by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907). Cancion Y Danza, Fetes Lointaines, Paisajes By Federico Mompou: A Stylistic Analysis, Qiaoni Liu
Theses and Dissertations
Spanish composer Frederic Mompou (1893-1987) created his music in an amazingly simple and mysterious way. His works are sometimes referred to as “music that has fallen silent.” Mompou’s piano works are not extremely popular on pianists’ repertoire list, partially due to a lack of familiarity with the composer and his works for piano. This study aims to provide more familiarity to readers about Mompou’s piano works with a goal of helping bring them to the attention of more pianists.
This study provides Mompou’s biography, as well as background information about the Spanish composer and his piano music. Some students may …

An Orchestral Conductor’S Guide To The James/Daehler Edition Of The Hinrichs And Winkler Compilation Score To The 1925 Silent Film The Phantom Of The Opera, Hayden Richard Denesha
Theses and Dissertations
The performance of silent film scores with live screenings of silent films is an artform that is still enjoyed by 21st century audiences. One of the most frequently performed examples of this is The Phantom of the Opera (1925). In addition to being an iconic film in the history of Hollywood cinema, this film possesses a full orchestral score which allows it to have accessibility for mainstream concert-hall performance. Live film music has become increasingly popular in mainstream concert halls, and there is a consistent need for accessible repertoire in this medium.
Performing a silent film with live orchestral accompaniment …

Live Performance, Digital Music, And The Music Listener Experience, Jessica Isenhour
Live Performance, Digital Music, And The Music Listener Experience, Jessica Isenhour
Selected Honors Theses
Live music performance, specifically in a contemporary and modem atmosphere, such as in pop, rock, and hip-hop musical genres in a corporate concert environment, is constantly innovating. As technology advances, so does its incorporation into live performance, marketing media, and digital music. Over the course of centuries, music listeners have enjoyed music of various genres through numerous types of media; however, what remains consistent in these avenues of musical exposure is the psychology of those listeners. This thesis aims to observe what consumers of music look for in live concert and digital music streaming environments, how performers have adapted and …

A Study Of American Rural Music Educators: The Impact On Community Involvement In Music, Stanley Norman Harris Iii
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study intends to discover and evaluate positive and negative relationships that music educators experience while teaching in rural educational settings and to discover if broader community involvement can help mitigate resource reductions. The purpose of the investigation is to recognize the feasibility of rural music educators leveraging increased support through community involvement to benefit their local music programs and students. The study's focus is twofold: first, to discover and examine what causes rural music educators to not participate …

Strategies For Recruitment, Growth And Retention Through Marching Band Enrollment At Talladega College (2011-2021), Miguel Antione-Julius Bonds
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
More institutions are using marching bands in an effort to encourage and boost small college and university enrollment. In response to concerns about low enrollment, colleges and universities are adopting vibrant and more contemporary marching bands to serve in the capacity of recruiter and primary ambassador for the institution. To this end, a strategy is developed that will assist with institutional awareness, marketing, academic expansion and student retention. Utilizing the marching band as a strategic tool for student recruitment provides opportunity for the college to attract a greater diversity of students to the institution. In this thesis, historical data is …

El Bell I El Sublim De La Mà De Benet Casablancas, Antoni Pizà
Publications and Research

Mapping Of Research Publications On Ethnomusicology Through The Lens Of Web Of Science, Puspanjali Hazarika, Atrayee Kashyap
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study attempts to define ethnomusicology as the study of people making music through the lens of mapping of research publications. People make sounds that are in ways or other sometimes considered as “music,” stretching into a specific cultural domain. This study delves into the idea of different types of music publications as a contingent cultural category. The necessary data were collected from the Web of Science database during 1996-2020 and analyzed accordingly.

Living Room Orchestra: Designing Embedded Furniture As A Family Of Electronic Musical Instruments, Matthew Scott Blessing
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Musical Chairs is a project that explores ways to bring more music and sound art into people’s homes in an unobtrusive manner. In a world of embeddable technologies and Internets of Things, the home is getting increasingly “smarter” and not all things are as they once seemed–a refrigerator can tell you the weather, a smart speaker can order a dollhouse. By embedding musicality in everyday home objects, performable sonic beauty can be all around without requiring any dedicated space to hold instruments. One no longer requires a grand piano taking up space in order to host a Salon.

Playing For The "Father Of Lights" The Musical Philosophy Of Pedro Eustache, Betania Canas
Playing For The "Father Of Lights" The Musical Philosophy Of Pedro Eustache, Betania Canas
Honors Scholars & Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium Programs
Known for his multidimensional and interdisciplinary work with notable musicians such as Yanni and Hans Zimmer, Venezuelan-American flutist and instrumentalist Pedro Eustache has mastered an astounding number of woodwinds and musical styles during his lifetime, from jazz to classical to several genres of global music. What is less known about him, however, is that he is a devoted Christian whose faith deeply influences his artistry and work ethic. The current project seeks to be the first scholarly exploration of Eustache's philosophy of music through an examination of published interviews, essays, and videos found online and in the musical press.
