It is the purpose of this study (1) to investigate the influential philosophies and musical forms of the Baroque, (2) to survey the shaping factors of Handel's life and career, (3) to determine the major characteristics of the dominating Italian principles, and (4) to cite compositional examples of this Italian influence.

The purpose of this study was (1) to locate and identify the various musical motives within the opera Susannah; (2) to point out the significance of each motive; (3) to examine the transformations of each motive; and (4) to demonstrate how the motive structure relates to both the visible series of events and to the psychological progress of the opera.

1. to clarify and give added meaning to the recital which is being presented partially in place of a master's thesis

2. to give expression to those studies which the author feels are most helpful in strengthening him In his teaching.

The paper will consequently consist of four sections; one will deal with the vocal mechanism which should be thoroughly understood by every vocal teacher, whether he may work with young teen-agers or college students. It has been interesting to note the development of the instrumental program in Utah in the past twenty-five years. Instrumentalists are in demand for a great number of organizations which perform in various capacities from the sports spectaculars to symphonic band and orchestras. Furthermore, the personnel of these groups are usually trained as soloists.
