A Study Of Factors That Influence East Tennessee Band Directors In Their Decision To Attend Marching Band Competition, Jimmye Kay Basham
A Study Of Factors That Influence East Tennessee Band Directors In Their Decision To Attend Marching Band Competition, Jimmye Kay Basham
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Rogers (1983) has identified four groups of factors that most influence band directors to attend marching band competitions. Those factors are: (1) pressure from parents, students, administrators, and others; (2) budgetary considerations; (3) general educational values; and (4) musical values. The purpose of this study was to -weigh the extent to which the factors identified by Rogers influence decisions of East Tennessee band directors to participate in marching band competitions.

A Study Of The Reliability And Validity Of A Social Skills Rating Scale For Use With Chronically Mentally Ill, Susan J. Egeler
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and concurrent validity of the Social Skills section of the Day Treatment Client Assessment, a series of rating scales used to assess behaviors of chronically mentally ill adults. Forty-one clients enrolled in a day treatment program formed the 4 subject groups. Each group met for three 1-hour music therapy sessions specifically designed to foster social behaviors. Three observers participated in each group and rated the clients' behaviors using the Social Skills scale. The observers' ratings were correlated with each other to determine the scale reliability and were correlated with staff …

A Critical Edition Of Paolo Virchi's Il Primo Libro Di Tabolatura Di Citthara (1574), William E. May
Theses and Dissertations
Paolo Virchi's II primo libro di tabolatura di citthara di ricercati, madrigali, canzoni, napolitane et saltarelli (Venice: Girolamo Scotto, 157414) is typical of many tablatures written for lute and cittern during the sixteenth century. It consists of fantasias, intabulations of madrigals, solo songs for tenor and cittern, and dance music. This thesis presents a complete transcription and analysis of the collection, the only surviving copy of which is preserved in the Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Vienna. The edition was made from a microfilm copy obtained from this library.
Virchi's music demonstrates his command of four divergent styles prevalent in the sixteenth century. …

Matoaka, June Nan Cooper
Matoaka, June Nan Cooper
Institute for the Humanities Theses
"Matoaka" is the first draft and partial scoring of an original music/play about the Powhatan Indians of Tidewater, Virginia. This music/play is actually the second in a projected series of three about the Powhatan Indians and the Native American world view. "Matoaka" is staged from a Powhatan perspective on the events surrounding the English settlement of Jamestowne in the year 1607. As much of the Powhatan culture has been destroyed, the Powhatan world view is reconstructed and interpreted from current and historical readings about Native Americans. The introduction includes a discussion of the author's creative process in the writing of …
