Busqueda De Identidad Cultural En Dos Novelas Latinoamericanas: Los Pasos Perdidos De Alejo Carpentier Y Quarup De Antonio Callado, Ana Beatriz Rodrigues Gonçalves

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

Two Latin American works, Quarup (Callado, 1967) and Los pasos perdidos (Carpentier, 1959) interpret in their protagonists the perennial problem of the modern alienated human in the metropolis. The introduction to this thesis shows how this alienated protagonist is a central preoccupation in Latin American literature since the beginning of modern urbanization and industrialization in the hemisphere. Due to the disorganized and frequently unidentified nature of the content, all course materials such as outlines, lecture notes, and related class materials are grouped into folders 1 to 5. Other class materials include a separate folder for final exams and review guides which provide the course number and title as well as two student papers. Also included in the collection to a lesser extent are handbooks, faculty, and administrative material, materials related to a concert by Jon and Sharon Polifrone, and an …

Music In The Funeral Traditions Of The Akpafu, V. Kofi Agawu Jan 1988

Music In The Funeral Traditions Of The Akpafu, V. Kofi Agawu

Publications and Research

"Nna lo senu kuwe, fie oresire somoloo?" ("Who laid a mat for him, so that he slept so deeply?") With this rhetorical question, the Akpafu of Southeastern Ghana initiate a period of public mourning occasioned by the death of one of their number.1 The philosophic significance of death in Akpafu culture is twofold. First, it marks the completion of the earthly cycle of existence, birth-circumcision-puberty-marriage-death. Second, it opens the door to a higher, spiritual realm in which the deceased, as an ancestor, takes his place alongside the lesser gods and the Supreme Being in the higher reaches of the hierarchy …
