Adaptation Production Plan For “Cardigan, Betty, And August” From Taylor Swift's Folklore, Carlie Hillhouse

This multimodal project creates a production plan for a fictional movie adaptation of Taylor Swift's popular songs "cardigan, betty, and august" from her 8th studio album, folklore. The production plan consists of details and descriptions for each cast member, filming locations, soundtrack, and key scenes to film for the movie.

The project was created in response to an assignment prompt that asked students to analyze how adaptation affects the way stories are told in different genres. The short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a significant piece of American literature published in 1892. This submission intends to capture its essence musically by adapting the prevailing themes of its narrative into song. Through the use of dynamics, delivery, and diction, the song conveys the evolution of Gilman’s piece. The composition includes deliberate tonal shifts and lyrical choices to reflect the story's progression and the protagonist's descent into madness. Selective adaptation was employed, consciously omitting certain narrative elements while prioritizing key thematic events. The ways in which music therapy impacts healing have been studied and observed in many ways in the past. However, most do not go the step further to consider how music therapy can be used to specifically help stroke patients recover lost function. In this paper, a video game design is proposed in which a combination of music therapies is integrated into a multi-level activity that incorporates repetition, reward, and strengthening of both physical and cognitive abilities. Musicians such as Elton John, Jennifer Knapp, and George Michael have told stories of concealed identity, unfair treatment, and internal turmoil due to the tension between authenticity and marketability. A lot has changed since then: musicians are even more accessible with the invention of the internet, and in cases like Taylor Swift or Harry Styles, function as a brand of their own.

One of the most challenging aspects of trumpet playing that pedagogues must teach is how to produce a professional tone. Trumpet students are often good musicians, play correct notes and rhythms, and even have proficient technique. However, many are unable to consistently produce a tone comparable to that of a professional. There are a number of methods that can be utilized to improve a student’s tone quality. In my own teaching and in the teaching of many professionals, tone concept has been used as a catalyst for the improvement of tone quality.
