Language Discourse- A Critical Analysis Of Michel Focault's Work On Language Discourse With Special Reference To His Masterpiece "The Archeology Of Knowledge", Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Discourse generally refers to "written or spoken communication or debate". The following are three more specific definitions: (1) In semantics and discourse analysis: A generalization of the concept of conversation to all modalities and contexts. (2) "The totality of codified linguistic usages attached to a given type of social practice. (E.g.: legal discourse, medical discourse, religious discourse.)" (3) In the work of Michel Foucault, and social theorists inspired by him: "an entity of sequences of signs in that they are enouncements (enoncés)" (Foucault 1969: 141). An enouncement (often translated as "statement") is not a unity of signs, but an abstract …
Altering The Tradition: The Traditio Legis At The Monastery Of Saint John, Jenny Ataoguz
Altering The Tradition: The Traditio Legis At The Monastery Of Saint John, Jenny Ataoguz
Jenny Kirsten Ataoguz
The main church of the Monastery of Saint John in Müstair, Switzerland preserves on its walls an extensive program of wall painting dating to around the year 800. The half-dome of one of its three apses presents a Traditio legis, a theme that had originated in Rome in the fourth century. Although the composition was firm during the first centuries of Christian art, with Paul on Christ’s right side and Peter on his left, early medieval versions more often reverse their placement. The basis for the privileging of Paul – his reception of the law of the spirit in counterpoint …

Modernism Remodeled: Branding The Image Of Modernism In Dwell Magazine, 2000–2010, Lauren Gallow
Lauren L. Gallow
Dwell magazine is not a magazine and it is not about architecture. Often grouped in the shelter magazine category, Dwell describes itself as somewhere between an architecture trade publication and a consumer shelter magazine, pulling successfully from both of these audiences to form its current circulation base of 341,000. In an analysis of the ten-year history of the Dwell brand—which includes the magazine as well as several other branding outlets, including a website, a design show, and even a line of Dwell prefabricated houses—this project examines how the Dwell company has created and insistently promoted a lifestyle based on the …

Sebastianismo E Constituição, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Sebastianismo E Constituição, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Direito Pensado, Sentido E Vivido Em L. A. Warat, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

E contudo...

Identidade E Atraso, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

A facsimile of a ten-leaf fragment of an illuminated sacramentary. The commentary includes a close examination of the object itself (physical properties, text, writing, and painting), considers the fragment's place in the oeuvre of the main scribe, and evaluates the artistic comparanda. A new understanding—anticipated in the work of Guy Lanoë—of the probable circumstances of the manuscript's creation is offered: that the sacramentary was made almost certainly at the behest of Roger, bishop of Beauvais from 998 to 1016, for his cathedral church of Saint Peter.

Art-Itecture: Exploding The Boundaries Between Art And Architecture, Lauren Gallow
Art-Itecture: Exploding The Boundaries Between Art And Architecture, Lauren Gallow
Lauren L. Gallow
In his 1970 book Experimental Architecture, Archigram co-founder Peter Cook writes, “In this century there have been several occasions when science, technology and human emancipation have coincided in a way that has caused architecture to explode.” This image of an exploding architecture can be read in several ways: as a challenging of architecture’s disciplinary boundaries, as a new idea of architecture altogether, or as a building literally exploding into fragmented pieces because of its perceived obsolescence. No matter the specific interpretation, Cook’s statement captures a widespread yet often overlooked trend of the twentieth century wherein architects and artists attempted to …

Interior Portraiture And Masculine Identity In France, 1789-1914, Temma Balducci, Heather Jensen, Pamela Warner
Pamela J. Warner
Focusing specifically on portraiture as a genre, this volume challenges scholarly assumptions that regard interior spaces as uniquely feminine. Contributors analyze portraits of men in domestic and studio spaces in France during the long nineteenth century; the preponderance of such portraits alone supports the book's premise that the alignment of men with public life is oversimplified and more myth than reality.
