Educating Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisors: A Grounded Theory Study Of Supervisory Wisdom, Judith R. Ragsdale Jan 2009

Educating Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisors: A Grounded Theory Study Of Supervisory Wisdom, Judith R. Ragsdale

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an 80 year old education modality that provides professional education for students of pastoral care. Supervision is central to the CPE process. Pastoral supervisors in the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) have done little writing about their work educating Students in Supervisory Education (SSEs). The purpose of this dissertation is to identify and interview those practitioners in ACPE who have been identified by their peers as excellent in practice, and to cull their wisdom by listening to and categorizing their experience of supervising SSEs. The research question to the supervisors was: What is your …

Music And Community: Interdependence And Shared Learning In An Undergraduate Elementary Music Methods Course, Lisa Huisman Koops Jan 2009

Music And Community: Interdependence And Shared Learning In An Undergraduate Elementary Music Methods Course, Lisa Huisman Koops

Faculty Scholarship

In this study, the author investigated the creation of a community of learners in an under- graduate elementary music methods course. Participants included undergraduate students (n = 23) and a professor at a Midwestern liberal arts college. Data consisted of fieldnotes from class observations and interviews with the professor and students. The following priorities and concepts emerged as themes: interdependence, shared learning, personal growth, safe environment, and inclusiveness. The success of the community of learners seemed to be due in part to the professor’s dynamic, student-centered, interdependent approach to the course. Transferable aspects related to the creation of a community …

An Evaluation Of The Long-Term Effectiveness Of A Women's Leadership Development Program, Kirsten S. Ericksen Jan 2009

An Evaluation Of The Long-Term Effectiveness Of A Women's Leadership Development Program, Kirsten S. Ericksen

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Women's Institute for Leadership Development (W.I.L.D.) program to determine the immediate and long-term impact as defined by the alumni program participants from three cohorts (2008, 2005, 2003). A secondary focus of the career transition decision-making of recent W.I.L.D. participants was also investigated. Qualitative (individual interviews and W.I.L.D. inventory open-ended written responses) and quantitative [Career Transitions Inventory, (CTI), and the W.I.L.D. inventory] results were examined. Within group and between group differences were analyzed using a paired samples t-test, while a grounded theory approach indicated emerging themes for the immediate and long-term …

Colegio Jacinto Treviño: A Microcosm Of The National Chicano Movement, Carlos Lino Cantú Dec 2008

Colegio Jacinto Treviño: A Microcosm Of The National Chicano Movement, Carlos Lino Cantú

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Colegio Jacinto Treviño, based in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, was the first Chicano college in the United States. The Colegio met the same challenges that the national Chicano Movement endured. External threats, internal infighting, political mismanagement, and gender issues affected and attributed to the demise of the Colegio. This study provides a history of this alternative educational institution and highlights the founders of the college and the issues and people whom fought and supported its existence. It is crucial because the local college personified the national student and academic character of El Movimiento, the Chicana/o movement. …
