"Dead or Alive?" is a work of fiction that focuses on a young college student called Grace Browning, who must wrestle with questions of home, identity, and moving forward with the help of the undead Dr. Castor Archibald. Oh, and it all happens in the Chawton Church graveyard (hence the "undead" part).

Thank you for taking the time to view the amazing works that students at the University of Maine at Farmington have created. This issue of Illuminations includes personal pieces and pieces from classes. There was a recurring theme of observation and self identity throughout many of the pieces in this issue of Illuminations—the idea that observation is an interactive practice—the idea that observation is a creative practice. Gwenyth Elise Hood was born on December 10, 1955, to Thomas Arthur Hood and Marion Louise Snee Hood in White Plains, NY, but moved with her family to Brandon, Vermont at the age of seven. She developed a love of reading and writing at an early age, discovering some favorite authors—Rudyard Kipling, Shakespeare, and J.R.R. Tolkien—at roughly the same time, in early adolescence. Forest Thought, Narrativity, And Counterinsurgency In Yñiga, Glenn L. Diaz

Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance

In this paper, I investigate the ways in which the tropical forest can assume the position of discourse, formal design, and textual form in fiction. I think about how, beyond its usual role as space, its vitality and various logics can facilitate a different way of storytelling, one that seeks to embody the historical resistance that the forest has long incubated. I demonstrate this by looking at the forest as a critical element in the spatio-poetics of my novel Yñiga (2022), and how its literal and conceptual manifestations--or "forest thought"--can help illuminate the ways in which history is imagined in …
