Critiquing The Discourse On Women In The Edo Era: Intertextual Studies Of Ariyoshi’S Hanaoka Seishū No Tsuma, Nina Alia Ariefa, Melani Budianta, Dhita Hapsarani
Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya
Under the Tokugawa clan, Japanese women’s position was declined throughout the Edo era (1603–1868). Almost one century afterwards, a female writer called Ariyoshi Sawako (1931–1984) raised the issue of female position in the Edo era through the novel Hanaoka Seishū no Tsuma (HSNT). This article will focus on two things. First is the exploration of the discourse of women in the Edo Era through three texts written during the era. The second part of the article will discuss the intertextuality of novel, with the discourse on women in the Edo era. New historicism method and Foucault’s concepts of discourse and …

The Downtown Review
Every human has a pair of guardians; one angel and one demon. When the human dies, the angel and demon decide where the human will end up. Sadie, an angel, and Addison, a demon, are case partners, and their current assignment is Marley Gallagher. Sadie has to grapple with what it means to be a mortal and what it means to be an angel when Marley falls in love.
Creating Space For Black Queer Narratives: A Conversation Between Nella Larsen And James Baldwin, Trinity L. Hollis
Creating Space For Black Queer Narratives: A Conversation Between Nella Larsen And James Baldwin, Trinity L. Hollis
Student Theses and Dissertations
My project seeks to use the fiction of James Baldwin and Nella Larsen to understand how queerness interacts with race, namely Black identity. I’m guided by Black feminist thought to consider themes of intersectionality, the notion that all aspects of identity are experienced simultaneously. This thesis makes an effort not to alienate one identity from another; the literature that I’m close reading is proof that Blackness and queerness inform each other.

Lemons And Other Grand Delusions, Jake A. Yarnold
Master's Theses

Exploring the limits of greed and desire within ourselves and in the society we live in, the collection asks who are we, if not a collection of our own desires, and the impulses …
