Personality Features And Efl Learning Process Within The Dominican Society Context, Pedro J. Tavarez-Dacosta Dr.

FDLA Journal

Through this work we are focusing on discussing the relationship between the Traits of Personality and the performance of Students in EFL Learning (introversion/extroversion and other determining factors of the educational Process) within the Dominican´s Society context as largely perceived by Teachers of English as a Foreign Language. There have been a great number of international studies already published which had tried to explain the effects of such features of the student's personality, mostly introversion/ extroversion on the student‘s performance in foreign language learning, something , which from the teacher‘s perception have always been presumed as an unquestionable fact. Facilitating Trauma Informed Practices In Intermediate Algebra, Ruthmae Sears, Kelley Cummings, Sandra Vernon-Jackson, Keisha Albritton, Alfredo Rodriguez-Vera, Chuqian Song

Transformations

As a programmatic evaluation effort, we examined the extent to which Intermediate Algebra instructors promoted trauma-informed practices. Data were garnered from 230 students enrolled in Intermediate Algebra in Fall 2024 via a Trauma Informed Practices Survey and a survey about the impact of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. The quantitative data was analyzed using frequencies, and the qualitative data were analyzed using open coding and thematic analysis. The results suggest that students generally perceive their instructors exhibited trauma-informed care. The results have implications for providing adequate support and resources to ensure all students learn mathematics.

Subjective Excessive Daytime Sleepiness And Frailty Progression In Veterans Over 50 With Insomnia, Mona Amirmazaheri Oct 2025

Subjective Excessive Daytime Sleepiness And Frailty Progression In Veterans Over 50 With Insomnia, Mona Amirmazaheri

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Frailty is common in aging veterans and linked to adverse outcomes. This retrospective cohort study of 6,824 veterans with insomnia examined whether excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep treatments, and PTSD affected frailty progression over four years. Frailty was measured using a validated index, with models adjusted for demographics and comorbidities, including chronic coronary insufficiency. Manuscript 1 showed that a higher Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score (range 0-24) was independently associated with a higher frailty index (FI) (p < .001). A clinical threshold of ≥11 indicated EDS and greater odds of frailty worsening compared to scores <11 (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.16, 95% CI [1.02, 1.32], p = .021). There was no significant interaction between ESS and time, suggesting that sEDS reflects persistently elevated frailty levels rather than accelerated decline. Manuscript 2 showed that nonpharmacologic sleep interventions were protective, while pharmacotherapy was associated with increased frailty risk. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia was associated with lower odds of frailty worsening (aOR = 0.31, 95% CI [0.19, 0.53], p < .001), and continuous positive airway pressure therapy also reduced risk (aOR = 0.55, 95% CI [0.39, 0.76], p < .001). In contrast, sleep medications were associated with increased odds of frailty progression (aOR = 1.16, 95% CI [1.02, 1.32], p = .021). Manuscript 3 showed that PTSD was not associated with baseline frailty levels but showed a significant time interaction (B = 0.001, p = .008), indicating modest acceleration of frailty progression among affected veterans. Findings support positive social change through early sEDS screening and trauma-informed, nonpharmacologic sleep care to reduce frailty in veterans.

Object Play In Tsimane Children: Implications For Sex-Specific Division Of Labour, Ava Moser, Michael D. Gurven, Hillard Kaplan, Benjamin C. Trumble, Jonathan Stieglitz, Paul Hooper, Daniel Cummings, Adrian Jaeggi, Kathelijne Koops

ESI Publications

Sex-specific division of labour and the associated use of different subsistence techniques by males (e.g. hunting) and females (e.g. gathering) has played an important role in shaping human societies. Skills needed in adulthood are practiced in play during childhood and object play has been proposed to foster tool-use skills necessary for adult subsistence techniques. Here, we investigated sex differences in the ontogeny of object play in Tsimane children in Bolivia to understand its potential role in shaping gender-specific adult roles. We used observational data (>80,000 scan samples) from nine Tsimane communities collected between 2002 and 2007. We analysed age …

Mold Exposure And Cognitive Health During Menopausal Transitions: A Quantitative Analysis Using Secondary Data, Holly Jeannette Burns

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Mold exposure and menopausal transition have been independently linked to cognitive decline, yet their interaction among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations has not been well examined. This quantitative study is an exploration of how menopausal transition influences the relationship between mold exposure and cognitive health outcomes among women aged 40 to 60 living in low-income housing in the United States. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory was used to guide the cross-sectional design using secondary data from the 2005–2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES; N = 149). Weighted logistic regression and Hayes’ PROCESS (Models 2 and 4) were used to test associations …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Female African American nontraditional students (25+ years with family and work demands) have high attrition rates, they leave degree programs before graduating, worsening socioeconomic disparities. This phenomenological study described their experiences with support services, which shaped student self-efficacy related to completing programs, and identified what changes were needed to improve support for higher graduation rates among female African American nontraditional students participating in 2-year degree programs offered by junior colleges. Guided by Bean’s industrial model of student attrition and Fishbein and Aizen’s importance of intention model, the study posed two research questions: What are the lived experiences of female nontraditional …
