Bridging Language Barriers In Data Analysis For Constructivist Grounded Theory Research: A Case Study In Chinese Context, Wenyu Li, Catherine Elliott O’Dare, Catherine Conlon
The Qualitative Report
Qualitative studies across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts are rising in global social settings. However, literature addressing the potential methodology challenges of conducting such research using constructivist grounded theory (CGT) remains limited. This paper, therefore, highlights potential challenges in the data analysis phase of cross-cultural research using CGT and suggests a three-phase language conversion strategy to minimize data loss while avoiding superficial analysis based on my Ph.D. research experience, where interviews are conducted in Chinese while the target language is English. Additionally, this paper reflects on the role of bilingual researchers in CGT cross-cultural studies, exploring how the bilingual research …

Objective
Smoking has been associated with psychiatric and somatic comorbidities in bipolar disorder (BD) populations. However, studies in older age BD (OABD) populations are sparse. We hypothesized that among individuals with OABD, current and former smokers would have worse psychiatric and somatic comorbidities parameters compared to never smokers.
Method
Our study used baseline cross-sectional data from 27 international studies reporting data on adults 50 years old and older (N = 984). Smoking status was categorized into current smokers, former smokers, and never smokers. The distribution of demographic and clinical variables was assessed. The associations between smoking status and the …

Simulating The Impact Of Fuel Prices Rising And Direct Cash Assistance Compensation (Blt Bbm) On Poverty In Indonesia, Ariful Romadhon, Ardi Adji
Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan
Crude oil prices have become volatile as geopolitical conflicts that occur in oil-exporting countries make the Indonesian government have to increase fuel prices and plan to provide cash transfers as compensation. This study analyzes the impact of fuel price rising and the direct cash assistance compensation program/Bantuan Langsung Tunai (BLT BBM) on poverty using micro data simulation. Poverty simulation is generated by modifying the poverty line (GK) and expenditure by utilizing leading indicators such as commodities inflation, household consumption expenditure growth, and population growth. The simulation results show that the presence of compensation can reduce the poverty rate compared to …

Who Intervenes When Jews Or Muslims Are Persecuted? Replicating A Profile Pattern From Holocaust Rescuers, Magnus Lindén, Fredrik Björklund, George R. Wilkes
Heroism Science
This study examined whether the characteristics that motivated non-Jews to rescue Jews during the Holocaust also predict morally courageous intentions among contemporary high school students. A sample of Swedish students (N = 231) completed a survey measuring parental role modelling, empathic concern, risk-taking, and identification with outgroups, and then indicated whether they would intervene to help persecuted Jews and Muslims in various hypothetical scenarios. All factors were significant predictors of intention to intervene; however, parental role modelling lost significance in a hierarchical regression analysis. Risk-taking accounted for the largest proportion of explained variance, followed by empathic concern, with a significant …

Co-Curricular Experiences And Career Readiness: A Narrative Inquiry Of Bachelor's Degree Graduate Experiences, Sydney L. Riu
Doctor of Education Program Dissertations
Colleges are expected to graduate students who are both academically prepared and professionally ready. Although co-curricular involvement has been known to foster leadership learning, little research has explored how graduates themselves view these experiences and their career relevance. Prior studies emphasized that the depth and quality of involvement are more important than participation alone (Astin, 1999; Foreman & Retallick, 2013; Seemiller, 2018). This study explored how recent bachelor’s degree graduates (n = 5, 2018–2021) perceived the role of co-curricular involvement in developing leadership competencies and applying them in early careers. Guided by Astin’s (1999) student involvement theory and Clandinin and …

The Triadic Kernel of ResonanceOS: Compassion, Gratitude, and Trust as The Firmware Operators of Reality
Abstract
This disclosure introduces the triadic kernel of ResonanceOS, a framework grounded in the principle and Grand Unifying Theory of Quantum Perspective Is Everything (QPIE). Building upon prior releases that identified compassion as an amplifier of coherence and gratitude as its stabilizer, this manifesto extends the kernel by introducing trust as the propagation operator Together, these three operators form the firmware layer of existence: compassion amplifies resonance, gratitude stabilizes resonance, and trust propagates resonance through time, networks, and systems By situating this triadic kernel …

Authoritarian Transfers, Günter Frankenberg, Fernanda G. Nicola
Authoritarian Transfers, Günter Frankenberg, Fernanda G. Nicola
University of Miami Law Review
The rapid proliferation of foreign agent laws globally has become a hallmark of rising authoritarianism, with these laws weaponized to suppress dissent and stifle civil society. While the post-World War II study of legal transplants focused on liberal legal orders, the rise of authoritarian regimes has introduced a new dimension: the transnational movement and adaptation of authoritarian legal frameworks, or authoritarian transfers. This Article fills a critical gap by developing an analytical framework to distinguish authoritarian transfers from democratic ones, using transfer theory, a central theme in comparative law that explores how laws travel, adapt, and transform within new social …

BACKGROUND: Incorporating people who use substances into a community-engaged research process can support the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based harm reduction programs. Attending to their voice ensures those who need these programs will use them. Yet, ongoing co-learning with people who use substances, often the ideal for community engaged research, poses a challenge for recruitment, ongoing participation, and obtaining diverse perspectives. We need novel strategies to support flexibility among populations experiencing legal and social instability so that community engaged work includes more diverse perspectives. In this paper, we describe a novel community engagement approach called Effective Adaptable and Sustainable in …
