Nevada’S Predictable Housing Train Wreck And What To Do About It, Arthur C. Nelson
Nevada’S Predictable Housing Train Wreck And What To Do About It, Arthur C. Nelson
Policy Briefs and Reports
Nevada is on the cusp of a housing catastrophe, especially in Southern Nevada.
Consider that the state has fewer households than it should. A household is defined as one or more people who have a home of their own. But for price, location, configuration, and other factors, about 60,000 households in Nevada do not exist because there is no home for them. And it’s going to get worse. Including these “missing households,” nearly 470,000 new occupied homes will need to be built between 2020 and 2040 to meet the housing needs of all Nevadans, or about 23,000 per year. The …

Jefferson Institute of Molecular Medicine Papers and Presentations
Background: Nowadays, it is generally accepted that focusing on in-service training can lead to organizational progress and improvements in the training process. Objectives: Considering the high prevalence of epilepsy in children and the use of new technologies in education, the purpose of this study was to conduct an electronic educational course on epilepsy classification guidelines based on the guidelines of pediatric neurologists and to evaluate the effectiveness of the course using the Kirkpatrick model. Methods: This study was conducted in 2020. The study population comprised pediatric neurologists from universities of medical sciences throughout the country. Inclusion criteria included participation in …

Mention Detection In Turkish Coreference Resolution, Şeni̇z Demi̇r, Hani̇fi̇ İbrahi̇m Akdağ
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
A crucial step in understanding natural language is detecting mentions that refer to real-world entities in a text and correctly identifying their boundaries. Mention detection is commonly considered a preprocessing step in coreference resolution which is shown to be helpful in several language processing applications such as machine translation and text summarization. Despite recent efforts on Turkish coreference resolution, no standalone neural solution to mention detection has been proposed yet. In this article, we present two models designed for detecting Turkish mentions by using feed-forward neural networks. Both models extract all spans up to a fixed length from input text …

Institute for Human-Animal Connection: Faculty Scholarship
Acute and chronic stress each have physical manifestations in the human body that can lead to many negative health impacts. Today, reported stress levels worldwide are at an all-time high, spurring the search for non-pharmaceutical interventions to maintain healthy stress levels. In this study, we examined whether a pet dog’s presence influences healthy adults’ acute stress responses as assessed through self-reports, heart rate, plasma cortisol, and salivary alpha-amylase. Participating pet dog owners were randomly assigned to undergo the Trier Social Stress Test either with their pet dog or alone. While there was no group difference in perceived anxiety levels, participants …

Advances In Hodgkin Lymphoma: Diagnosis Characteristics And Molecular Approaches, Xiaomin Peng, Ms
Student Papers, Posters & Projects
Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) is a B-cell lymphoma with two distinct entities: classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) and Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma (NLPHL). Based on different tumor microenvironments, cHL is divided into four subtypes: Nodular Sclerosis CHL (NSCHL), Mixed Cellularity CHL (MCCHL), Lymphocyte-Depleted CHL (LDCHL), and Lymphocyte-Rich CHL (LRCHL). cHL and NLPHL have similar histology features, low concentration of malignant cells within abundant inflammation, the most significant difference is the molecular profiles of Reed-Sternberg (RS) cells and Lymphocyte Predominant (LP) cells. HL has a high cure rate with frontline treatment, but a small percentage of patients do not achieve treatment success, …
Comparing Costs And Predictors Of Low-Value Healthcare Service Use Among Primary Care Nurse Practitioners In The Southwest United States, Sara B. Nugent
Comparing Costs And Predictors Of Low-Value Healthcare Service Use Among Primary Care Nurse Practitioners In The Southwest United States, Sara B. Nugent
Nursing ETDs
Low-value healthcare services (LVHSs) are unsupported by current evidence, associated with harmful patient outcomes, and equate to over $100 billion in wasteful spending annually. The aims of this descriptive, comparative study were to establish baseline prevalence and costs associated with LVHS use among primary care nurse practitioners (NPs), and to test the influence of different geographical regions and patient populations. A secondary data analysis of the Merative™ MarketScan® 2021 databases was conducted. LVHS prevalence was lower or fairly equal to that of other studies, and direct claim costs were very-low cost. Extremely high low-value lumbar radiographic imaging claim costs were …

Enabling Secure And Inclusive Education For Students With Disabilities And Ensuring Data Through Machine Learning, Bader Muteb Alsulami, Abdullah Baihan, Ahed Abugabah
All Works
The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated an abrupt transition to online learning, impacting students with disabilities uniquely. This study examines the experiences of 62 such students in the new educational paradigm, employing a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through surveys and questionnaires to assess privacy and security concerns arising from online learning tools. Qualitative insights were gathered via interviews and focus groups, revealing that while students appreciate the flexibility of online learning, they express a critical need for enhanced guidance and support. Neurodiverse students, in particular, emphasized the necessity of a secure online environment. Addressing these challenges, our research integrates blockchain …

As wars in Ukraine and Gaza continue with little end in sight, the sense of urgency to determine how they should end is increasing, given how the wars could end. A just war aims to establish a better state of peace, but a better state of peace may not always be achievable, and even when it is achievable, it may not be good enough. When that is the case, actors must determine on what terms to settle, given what they think they can achieve based on relative capabilities and cost tolerances. The resulting “maximin” solution, a …
