Online Translation Revisited: An Embedded Linguistic Resource In Emi?, Michael Groves, Lisha Yu

Journal of English and Applied Linguistics

It has now been over 10 years since the implementation of neural network-based online translation, allowing students to use English as a medium of instruction (EMI) context free and ubiquitous access to high-quality automated translation. In this time, the quality and ubiquity of the technology have increased dramatically. However, there has been little investigation into EMI students’ perceptions of this development. This study reports the outcomes of discussions with approximately 15 students in a focus group format at a Hong Kong Liberal Arts University, where students whose first language is not English discussed their use of online translation in their …

Kimmel Cancer Center Faculty Papers

Over a decade of advances in Clustered Regularly Interspersed Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9)-based technologies have culminated in the first-ever FDA-approved CRISPR/Cas-based therapy. Aside from this approved therapy for sickle cell anemia, several CRISPR/Cas-based therapies are currently under development or testing for a range of chronic diseases, including viral diseases like human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection, genetic diseases like familial hypercholesterolemia, and cancer. The success of these therapies hinges on the effective delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 components to target regions, efficient Cas endonuclease editing, repair profiles generated, and their resulting outcomes. Here, we discuss the …

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Vermont Governor Phil Scott's job approval has fallen to its lowest point since at least April 2022, but much of this decline is due to falling approval among his fellow Republicans. Scott is seeking a sixth term as governor and holds early leads over prospective Democratic challengers Amanda Janoo and Aly Richards, who are largely unknown to likely Democratic primary voters. Former Lieutenant Governor Molly Gray leads the Democratic field to take on incumbent Republican John Rodgers and Gray leads Rodgers in a prospective general election matchup. Gerald Malloy leads fellow Republican Mark Coester in the race to challenge incumbent …

Helena Foulkes remains the leader in the race for the Democratic nomination for Rhode Island governor in 2026, but incumbent Dan McKee has narrowed the gap somewhat since April. Foulkes leads in a hypothetical general election matchup with a generic Republican nominee and Independent Ken Block, while McKee is tied with a Republican nominee and Block. Incumbent Democratic Senator Jack Reed continues to lead challenger Connor Burbridge in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Only one-fifth of Rhode Islanders feel the state is headed in the right direction, slightly lower than in 2024.

Comprehensive Prediction Analysis Of Novel Noncoding Regulatory Variants Identified In The Microrna Binding Regions In Complement System Genes, Anthony Shadid, Haydn E Rich, Kathryn D Hok, Marie-Francoise Doursout, Marcos I Restrepo, Nirmal K Banda, Lavanya Gunamalai, Pooja Shivshankar

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine

The complement system is a central component of innate immunity that coordinates host defense, immune surveillance, and inflammatory responses through tightly regulated proteolytic cascades. Genetic variation within complement genes contributes substantially to interindividual differences in complement activity and disease susceptibility. While coding variants directly alter complement protein structure and function, the microRNA (miRNA)-mediated control and post-transcriptional regulation is not fully understood in shaping complement gene expression across immune and inflammatory mechanisms. Complement pathway genes exhibit extensive and heterogeneous 3'-untranslated regions (3'UTRs), which serve as primary platforms for miRNA binding and RNA-binding protein interactions. Both common and rare single-nucleotide polymorphisms within …
