Sexuality-Related Lexical (In)Visibility In Asian Englishes: A Corpus-Based Study Using The International Corpus Of English (Ice), Jess V. Mendoza, April N. Salvador, Teri An Joy G. Magpale

Journal of English and Applied Linguistics

This study examines the visibility and invisibility of sexuality-related terms in four Asian Englishes using data from the International Corpus of English (ICE). Drawing on Wilkinson’s (2022) sexuality-related lexical set and informed by scholarship on heteronormativity, the study analyzes the proportional visibility of 19 target lexemes across Englishes in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, and India. The findings show that only a small subset of terms (gay, lesbian, same sex, sexual preference, bisexual, and sexual orientation) appear in the corpora, and even these occur at low frequencies. The present paper makes an attempt to employ concepts developed in philosophy and logic in order to explain natural language phenomena. The study centers on the meanings of the Polish modal verb musieć in relation to aspect and negation. It uses authentic language samples excerpted from Narodowy Korpus Języka Polskiego [The National Corpus of Polish]. It adapts the model of the semantic field of modal expressions (Kratzer, 1991) to disambiguate the modal, focusing on the characteristics of the conversational backgrounds that the speaker evaluates in expressing their modal evaluation of an event. Intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy is a major public health concern associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Despite increasing recognition, evidence linking specific forms of IPV to pregnancy outcomes in Nigeria remains limited. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of intimate partner violence and examine its association with adverse pregnancy outcomes among women attending postnatal care in a tertiary hospital in North-Central Nigeria. A hospital-based cross-sectional analytic study was conducted among 381 women attending postnatal care. At the same time, rising environmental concerns about petroleum-based plastic packaging have created demand for sustainable alternatives. Foreign language learning anxiety remains a critical affective variable influencing learners’ performance in English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms. This study examined the association between translanguaging as a pedagogical strategy and foreign language anxiety among Saudi university students. Adopting a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from 200 undergraduate EFL students using a structured questionnaire. In this study, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) is employed to examine the relationships among employee engagement, inclusive management, creativity, and organizational diversity climate in a Saudi university (University of Tabuk). Based on Social Exchange Theory (SET) and Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) theory, the research offers empirical evidence that inclusive leadership enhances the organisational diversity climate, thereby raising employee engagement and creativity. Over a decade of advances in Clustered Regularly Interspersed Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9)-based technologies have culminated in the first-ever FDA-approved CRISPR/Cas-based therapy. Aside from this approved therapy for sickle cell anemia, several CRISPR/Cas-based therapies are currently under development or testing for a range of chronic diseases, including viral diseases like human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection, genetic diseases like familial hypercholesterolemia, and cancer. PURPOSE: To provide a descriptive summary and to quantitatively examine racial and ethnic disparities in the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) among people living with diabetes in the United States.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We followed the Cochrane and PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD420251124678). Search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane up to August 2025. Background/Objectives: Associations between scores on tests of sensory integration functions demonstrated in numerous studies over six decades have contributed to the development of Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) theory and practice.
