Analysis And Simulation Of The Effect Of Voids In Dually Reinforced Particle And Short Fiber Composites, Matthew Mckinley Luci
Analysis And Simulation Of The Effect Of Voids In Dually Reinforced Particle And Short Fiber Composites, Matthew Mckinley Luci
Graduate Theses - Mechanical Engineering
This thesis investigates dual-reinforced polymer composites tailored for flywheel energy storage, combining short, chopped carbon fibers for load bearing with iron particulates for multifunctionality. A unified experimental–computational workflow was developed: tensile coupons were fabricated and tested, machine compliance was quantified using neat resin and removed from all curves, and elastic moduli were extracted with robust MATLAB routines. Parallel finite-element models in ANSYS 2023R reproduced the dog-bone geometry with standardized meshing, named selections, and displacement-controlled loading. Four material states—neat resin, resin and iron, resin and short carbon fiber, and the iron and fiber hybrid— were evaluated. Results show carbon fibers dominate …

As generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) becomes more integrated into corporate communication, its role in crisis messaging raises critical questions about audience perception and trust. Drawing on theories of machine heuristics, this study explores how relational cues in AI-authored crisis apologies shape emotional and cognitive responses that ultimately influence trust and forgiveness. A 3 (authorship attribution: AI vs. human vs. control) x 2 (relational tone: warmth vs. competence) between-subjects factorial design with 464 participants was conducted to assess if and how incorporating a warm tone into AI-generated apologies can help overcome AI's inherent limitations associated with machine heuristics. Results show that …

Composition Pedagogy As Ai‑Native Coding: From Design Kit To Scholarly Framework, Daniel Plate, James Hutson
Composition Pedagogy As Ai‑Native Coding: From Design Kit To Scholarly Framework, Daniel Plate, James Hutson
Faculty Scholarship
This article advances a field-ready framework that reconceives first-year composition as AI-native coding, translating a complete “design kit” into scholarly method, evaluative protocol, and curriculum architecture. Background: Contemporary composition pedagogy emphasizes process, genre awareness, and collaborative revision; meanwhile, modern software practice operationalizes iteration through version control, test-driven development, and continuous integration. The uploaded kit demonstrates that these cultures are isomorphic: writing stages align with SDLC phases, and automated pipelines can lint prose, execute argument “tests,” and publish artifacts with auditable histories. Approach: The study systematizes that kit into (1) a conceptual map that recasts authorship as orchestration and verification, (2) …

INTRODUCTION: The Neighborhoods Study (TNS) is a novel investigation of adverse social exposome and brain health leveraging 22 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRCs). TNS aims to understand if the adverse social exposures increase Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) risk. METHODS: TNS uses innovative methods to determine lifetime addresses of living (n = ≈ 3116) and brain bank cohorts (n = ≈ 8637). Addresses are linked to time-concordant adverse social exposome using the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and summarized over time. Brain health measures are provided by the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center. RESULTS: We highlight a general overview and methodology …

Purpose: Pharmacoepidemiologic studies on deprescribing are challenging to implement, yet little guidance exists on methods to avoid bias and minimum reporting for replicability and appraisal. We developed consensus recommendations for the methods and reporting of observational studies that aim to examine the effects of deprescribing. Methods: We formed candidate recommendations based on our prior systematic review that methodologically appraised observational studies on deprescribing. We then conducted a two-round modified Delphi process with researchers working in deprescribing pharmacoepidemiology to refine, select, and reach consensus on recommendations for a checklist based on > 70% agreement of their importance. We termed this list the …

Setting International Technical Standards To Shape Digital Trade Policy: Approaches, Challenges, And Opportunities For Developing Countries, Craig Atkinson, Hanane Becha
Setting International Technical Standards To Shape Digital Trade Policy: Approaches, Challenges, And Opportunities For Developing Countries, Craig Atkinson, Hanane Becha
Centre for Digital Law
Digital trade, the “intentional application of digital technologies at any stage of the trade process” (DiCaprio, 2024, p. 1), is reshaping patterns of economic growth1 and development (International Monetary Fund [IMF] et al., 2023a). As its basis, digital trade depends on internationally agreed-upon “digital technical standards”: rules and guidelines that ensure digital technologies can work together (i.e., interoperability) and be used widely (i.e., scalability) (Bergsen et al., 2022). These standards support how information and communication technologies (ICTs) are designed, interact, and are adopted across borders. Without such technical standards, digital trade would not be possible.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, also known as EDI, is one of several acronyms that refer to policies and practices of organizations, such as K to 12 school boards and post-secondary institutions, to promote inclusive and equitable environments. While EDI has become a ubiquitous discourse in educational administration, its impact extends into classroom pedagogies, hiring practices, curriculum development, and institutional culture. In this article, we critically examine the extent to which EDI committees and initiatives fulfil their promise of fostering inclusive environments to support equity-denied groups. We address the following research questions: (1) How have EDI frameworks evolved in education? (2) …

Eight For Fate: The Argument For "Beyond A Residual Doubt" Burden In Florida's Death Penalty System, Elizabeth Leonard
University of Florida Journal of Law & Public Policy
Justice Thurgood Marshall argued, “There is certainly nothing irrational—indeed, there is nothing novel—about the idea of mitigating a death sentence because of lingering doubts as to guilt.” For the first time in the history of the United States, polling shows a majority of Americans prefer life in prison over a sentence of capital punishment. Capital punishment is a hotly debated national issue—recent polling shows 60% of Americans prefer a sentence of life in prison without parole when compared to the death penalty.
In 2023, Florida stepped into first place among the states in adopting the lowest capital punishment sentencing threshold. …

Pore Some More: Current Legal Considerations Of Pore Space Ownership In Texas, Peter E. Hosey, Charles P. Hosey
Texas A&M Journal of Property Law
This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal landscape governing pore space ownership in Texas. It traces the evolution of Texas law from early uncertainty and conflicting case law—such as Mapco, Inc. v. Carter—to the Texas Supreme Court’s recent clarification in Myers-Woodward, LLC v. Underground Services Markham, which firmly establishes subsurface pore space as an attribute of the surface estate. The authors examine the practical implications of this rule, including the interplay between mineral and surface estates, the accommodation doctrine, and issues related to trespass, correlative rights, and contamination of native reservoirs. The article also explores ongoing legislative efforts …

Upcycled And Rightful: Navigating Trademark Law And The Circular Economy, Irene Calboli, Gabrielle Armstrong
Texas A&M Journal of Property Law
This Article elaborates on the practice of upcycling and argues that upcycling should be considered a lawful practice under current trademark rules in the United States. Upcycling is the process of taking existing products lawfully sold on the market, in most instances, used products, and giving these products a second life by adding additional elements and decorations or by using the still viable product parts to create new products altogether. Because of its focus on reusing existing products or product parts, the practice of upcycling has become increasingly popular, also because it promotes circular and environmentally friendly production practices. However, …

Presidentialism In Post-Conflict Kachin Constitution: Political Imagination, Institutional Realities, And Executive Design, Dashi Blessing Seng Htoi Lu
Maurer Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the relationship between cultural identity, political imagination, and constitutional design in the Kachin context, focusing on the strong preference for presidentialism among political thinkers and interim constitution drafters. Rooted in traditions of armed resistance, charismatic leadership, and the desire for visible sovereignty, presidentialism is widely viewed as the most viable executive model for a post-conflict Kachin future. Yet this preference is often shaped more by symbolic ideals than by a clear understanding of the structural demands of democratic governance.
At the heart of this vision lies the expectation of a strong president: directly elected, culturally rooted, and …
