Perinatal and maternal morbidity in the setting of preterm birth may differ by delivery indication. We compared perinatal and maternal outcomes of second-trimester (240/7-276/7 weeks of gestation) deliveries indicated for preeclampsia with severe features (PE-SF), with those following preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).Secondary analysis of an observational cohort study of singleton and twin preterm deliveries before 35 weeks' gestation at 33 hospitals across the United States. Singletons without congenital anomalies who were delivered due to PE-SF or PPROM from 240/7 to 276/7 weeks of gestation were included. The primary outcome was a composite of perinatal morbidity or death, defined …

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
The transition toward green and low-carbon development has become a significant global trend for future growth. This study focuses on policy frameworks that support innovation in green and low-carbon technologies. It reviews the practices of major developed economies, such as the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Japan in this field, and synthesizes their experiences across key dimensions such as industrial policy, innovation actors, innovation ecosystems, funding mechanisms, and international cooperation. Drawing on these insights, and taking into account China’s unique advantages and challenges in green and low-carbon technological innovation, the paper offers policy recommendations aimed at …
Steroid Receptor Coactivators - From Basic Research To Translational Opportunities, Yosef Gilad, Sang Jun Han, David M Lonard
Steroid Receptor Coactivators - From Basic Research To Translational Opportunities, Yosef Gilad, Sang Jun Han, David M Lonard
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
The concept of nuclear receptor (NR) coregulation was proposed nearly two decades before it was experimentally validated. According to this model, NRs - executors of a vast array of transcriptional programs - do not act independently but are governed by a network of regulatory proteins that either activate or repress their biological function. NRs identify the genes to be regulated. However, coregulators ultimately serve as the true controllers of transcriptional outcomes. They recruit cofactors and coordinate the activity of transcriptional complexes, thereby shaping NR-mediated gene expression beyond NRs' intrinsic functionality. The Steroid Receptor Coactivator (SRC) family is the most extensively …

α-Synuclein (α-syn) aggregation underlies synucleinopathies, yet the physicochemical determinants that govern which assembly states form under defined solution conditions remain incompletely resolved. Here, we examine how pH and metal ions reshape α-syn self-assembly. Across acidic and physiological pH conditions, α-syn populates monomeric, nanoscale oligomeric, and mesoscale aggregate states whose relative abundances evolve over time. Fluorescence microscopy reveals robust mesoscale assembly at pH 5, minimal aggregation at pH 7, and transient assemblies at pH 3, highlighting the limitations of imaging-based detection alone. Therefore, we use dynamic light scattering (DLS) to resolve oligomeric populations and quantify pH-dependent redistribution of assembly mass. Toxicity-mitigating …
Emotion Differentiation As A Moderator Of The Relationship Between Affect And Alcohol Use Among College Students: An Ecological Momentary Assessment, Gaelle El Helou
Emotion Differentiation As A Moderator Of The Relationship Between Affect And Alcohol Use Among College Students: An Ecological Momentary Assessment, Gaelle El Helou
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Alcohol use remains prevalent among young adults and particularly college students. Research shows a link between affective states and alcohol consumption, although recent findings appear to be unequivocal on the effect of negative and positive emotions on college drinking. While emotion differentiation (ED) has been associated with alcohol use, previous research has focused mostly on clinical treatment adult populations and / or negative emotions, focusing less on the role that positive emotions play in drinking, particularly among college students. The current study explored the moderating role of negative and positive emotion differentiation (NED / PED) in the association between negative …
Jealously Guarded: The Right To Trial By Jury In Federal Court Under California’S Unruh Civil Rights Act, Denis Bogatin
Jealously Guarded: The Right To Trial By Jury In Federal Court Under California’S Unruh Civil Rights Act, Denis Bogatin
Pepperdine Law Review
Since California adopted heightened pleading standards for high-frequency litigants alleging violations of the Unruh Act in state court, federal district courts have seen a surge of ADA and Unruh Act claims filed together to secure subject matter jurisdiction. Most courts dismissed the Unruh claims under their discretionary authority under 28 U.S.C. § 1367, but they remained divided on whether plaintiffs in these cases have a right to jury trial—statutory or constitutional. In 2025, the Ninth Circuit resolved part of the split in In re Tsay, holding that the Unruh Act provides a constitutional right to a jury trial because it …
The Power To Declare Peace, Michael Stokes Paulsen
The Power To Declare Peace, Michael Stokes Paulsen
Pepperdine Law Review
The Constitution gives Congress the power “to declare War.” The meaning of that grant of power is much debated, but its converse is much neglected: To whom does the Constitution assign the power to declare peace? This Article comprehensively examines the Constitution’s various assignments of the power(s) to make peace—constitutional powers to end, as a practical matter and as a binding legal matter, a prior legal condition of war. Both the President and Congress possess several such powers. The President has the power, with the advice and consent of two-thirds of the Senate, to make treaties, including peace treaties that …

A Decolonial Approach To International Education: Insights From A Cal Poly Global Program In Palermo, Sicily, Elvira Pulitano, Iyad Jamaly
csuglobalaction
This article presents a critical intervention in the current debates about decolonizing international education. It is based on a Global Program in Palermo, Sicily, offered by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in summer 2023. As both program creator/director and student participant in the program, the authors rely on their personal experience and insights along with expertise in coloniality and decolonial theories. The article focuses on a series of pedagogical activities led by a young group of migrants and refugees who, in the city of Palermo, have come together to form two associations designed and structured to offer new contemporary models …

Monitoring Strategies In Cave Microclimate Studies, Nenad Buzjak, Dalibor Paar, Aurel Persoiu, Christos Pennos, Franci Gabrovšek, Valerija Rossi
International Journal of Speleology
Cave atmospheres are spatially confined but dynamical systems that influence subterranean ecosystems, geomorphological processes, registration and preservation of climatic signals in sedimentary archives, cultural heritage, and conservation management. Despite major advances in cave climatology, methodological approaches to microclimate monitoring remain fragmented and are in some cases still shaped by the long-standing assumption that cave air temperature simply reflects the mean annual surface temperature. This paper revisits that assumption and develops an experience- and literature-based methodological framework for cave microclimate research. Key terminology is addressed by distinguishing between cave climate, cave microclimate, and cave meteorology, and by situating microclimatic variability within …

Everything The Light Touches Is Not Your Kingdom: Understanding The Statutory Silence In The Antiquities Act To Restrict Presidential Power, Lillian A. Bourne
Natural Resources Journal
There is no greater threat to our public lands than energy dominance. The 1906 Antiquities Act gave presidents the power to proclaim national monuments on public lands, and today the federal government protects over 11 million acres as national monuments. President Trump plans to revoke and shrink monument protections so that these lands can be used for oil, gas, and mineral drilling, destroying cultural artifacts with detrimental impacts to air, water, and land. The Antiquities Act does not give the president the power to revoke or shrink national monuments designated by prior presidents; the Act reserves this power solely to …

The historical background, technical decisions, and policy options are summarized.
A Complementary Document Approach – What Are The Challenges?, Roswitha Skare
A Complementary Document Approach – What Are The Challenges?, Roswitha Skare
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This article examines the significance of the "neo-documentary turn" in Library and Information Science (LIS), as described by Jenna Hartel, and argues for its continued relevance. Niels W. Lund’s complementary document analysis, inspired by Niels Bohr’s principle of complementarity, is highlighted as a key contribution, offering a framework to explore the physical, mental, and social dimensions of documents. Using examples such as Sophus Tromholt’s Sámi photographs, the article demonstrates how complementary analysis can uncover overlooked aspects of documents. However, challenges arise due to the interdisciplinary expertise required for such analyses. The article concludes by advocating for collaboration among specialists to …
Reading Ourselves: Self-Documentation, Infamy, And Collective Health In Brazilian Peripheries, Asy Pepe Sanches Neto
Reading Ourselves: Self-Documentation, Infamy, And Collective Health In Brazilian Peripheries, Asy Pepe Sanches Neto
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This paper explores self-documentation as a social instrument for surviving misrecognition and constructing situated forms of care. Drawing from Foucault’s Lives of Infamous Men, it examines how lives become visible only when touched by power, through brief administrative inscriptions. Building on Documental Fixity (Sanches & Day, 2020), the argument shifts from the stabilizing power of documents to the anticipatory actions of those who know they are read. Rather than asking what a document is, I treat “document” as a modeling frame imposed upon things to manage indexicality. From passports to school uniforms, documentation organizes visibility and authority. In racialized and …
