Enhancing Learning With Ai: The ‘Icing On The Cake’ Approach, Ejike Okonkwo Feb 2026

Enhancing Learning With Ai: The ‘Icing On The Cake’ Approach, Ejike Okonkwo

Essays in Education

Drawing on a narrative review based on inductive thematic analysis, this paper examines the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The analysis shows that while AI offers useful educational benefits, they often come into conflict with concerns about how AI affects learning, including risks of overreliance and potential constraints on learners’ critical thinking and creative capacities. Consequently, the paper develops the “icing on the cake” conceptual framework, which conceptualizes AI adoption as non-linear and positions AI as a complementary tool rather than a substitute for human learning. The framework is grounded in reflection, metacognition, and skill development, and …

What’S History Without Tradition?, Richard C. Osborne Iii Feb 2026

What’S History Without Tradition?, Richard C. Osborne Iii

Catholic University Law Review

For many decades, the Establishment Clause had been a thorn in the Supreme Court’s side. Indeed, no other constitutional provision in recent memory has provided the Court with more trouble than the Establishment Clause. In its efforts to decide whether government conduct violated the Establishment Clause, the Court had applied no less than six tests. And as if that were not bad enough, many of these tests co-existed with one another, leaving government actors left to guess at their own peril which one controlled their fate.

But that officially changed when the Supreme Court decided Kennedy v. Bremerton School District …

Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl Feb 2026

Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl

Taylor Theatre Playbills

The playbill for Taylor University's performance of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl.

Performed February 20-22, 2026 and February 27-March 1, 2026 in the Mitchell Theatre at Taylor University.

Eurydice, written by Sarah Ruhl, retells teh familiar myth of Orpheus - but this time, the story unfolds from Eurydice's perspective. That shift matters. Instead of centering heroic rescue, the play centers interior experience: grief as it is felt, memory as it flickers, love as it is complicated by loyalty, doubt, and longing. By allowing Eurydice to be the narrative voice, the play asks us to inhabit loss from the inside rather …

Approaching Lower Bound Of Lattice Thermal Conductivity By Simultaneously Suppressing Diagonal And Off-Diagonal Phonon Contributions, Alejandro David Rodriguez, Riccardo Rurali, Changpeng Lin, Joshua Ojih, Mohammed Al-Fahdi, G. Jeffrey Snyder, Ming Hu Feb 2026

Approaching Lower Bound Of Lattice Thermal Conductivity By Simultaneously Suppressing Diagonal And Off-Diagonal Phonon Contributions, Alejandro David Rodriguez, Riccardo Rurali, Changpeng Lin, Joshua Ojih, Mohammed Al-Fahdi, G. Jeffrey Snyder, Ming Hu

Faculty Publications

Pushing the intrinsic lattice thermal conductivity (LTC) in crystalline materials to lower bounds is crucial for fundamental materials research towards emerging technologies including thermoelectric energy conversion and thermal management in both hypersonic aircraft and next-generation turbine systems. However, in the ultralow LTC regime ( <  1 Wm-1K-1), the competition between propagative (particle-like) and coherent phonons—arising from off-diagonal components—poses a significant challenge in further reducing LTC. We perform quantitative analysis of 4700 materials using density functional theory (DFT), spanning all crystallographic groups, to elucidate the interplay between diagonal and off-diagonal phonon contributions. We identify a critical balance between these transport mechanisms, where intermediate phonon lifetimes ( ~ 1 ps) and slow group velocities ( ~ 1 km/s) collectively suppress both contributions, enabling ultralow LTC. Results from a large dataset of 31,058 structures by machine learning models strongly resemble the DFT trends of two-channel phonon transport. Leveraging these models, we screen 25,882 additional materials and confirm their properties with DFT, identifying 12 candidates with ultralow room-temperature LTC—including a record-low value of 0.132 Wm-1K-1. Our large-scale analysis reveals fundamental insights into dual-channel phonon transport, enabling rational design of ultralow LTC materials and accelerating the discovery of advanced phononic crystals with tailored thermal transport properties.

The Flaws Of Bruen And The Principle Of The Second Amendment, Cameron Collins Feb 2026

The Flaws Of Bruen And The Principle Of The Second Amendment, Cameron Collins

Catholic University Law Review

With a six Justice majority, the Court is more conservative than it has been in ninety years. No time has been wasted as the conservative Justices take aim at legal precedents left over from a more progressive era on the Court. There being no prior test established by the highest Court to review legal challenges on Second Amendment grounds, the Court took the opportunity to write new precedent in New York State Rifle Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen. Rather than stick with the means-end scrutiny framework that had been developing in the circuit courts, the Supreme Court established a …

For What? Resolving The Causation Split For Fmla Retaliation Claims, Lucy Wess Feb 2026

For What? Resolving The Causation Split For Fmla Retaliation Claims, Lucy Wess

Catholic University Law Review

For over thirty years, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has provided working Americans the opportunity to maintain their professional careers while juggling personal and familial health care needs. Like many other employment law statutes, the FMLA prohibits retaliation by employers against employees who exercise their rights under the statute. However, a circuit split as to the correct causation standard for FMLA retaliation claims leaves plaintiffs and defendant employers uncertain of case outcomes as well as the legality of the employer’s conduct. The Fourth and Eleventh Circuits held that the but-for causation standard is the proper standard in such …

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

We present a detailed study of magnetization, resistivity, heat capacity, and x-ray and neutron powder diffraction measurements performed on single crystals of nonstoichiometric CeAuBi2, Au deficiency 18%, a strongly correlated antiferromagnet with Néel temperature TN = 13.2 K. Field-dependent magnetization measurements reveal a large magnetic anisotropy at low temperatures with an easy axis along the crystallographic c axis, in which direction a spin-flop transition exhibits strong features in magnetization, specific heat, and resistivity at Hc = 75 kOe. The constructed temperature-field phase diagram connects this transition to the suppression of magnetic order, which evolves from a …

Why We Must Commune: Rethinking The Role Of Marketing Communications In Turbulent Times, Javier Garcia

Publications and Research

“Communications” is often thought of as a noun, representing the messages we receive on a daily basis from people, brands, and institutions alike.

"Communications" is also often associated with an industry that exists to produce such messaging in service of capitalism, with a commercial or otherwise actionable outcome desired from its receiving audience.

This presentation, hosted by two-time CCNY graduate and senior marketing communications professional and Assistant Professor Javier Garcia, will examine the urgency and opportunity in rethinking the value and study of marketing and communications.

In his presentation, Professor Garcia will offer suggestions on how to guide students towards …

Improving Lunch Break To Enhance Nurse Happiness And Job Satisfaction, Evelyn O. Dumkwu Feb 2026

Improving Lunch Break To Enhance Nurse Happiness And Job Satisfaction, Evelyn O. Dumkwu

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Nurses frequently forgo scheduled lunch breaks due to high workload demands, inadequate staffing, and organizational cultures. Consistently skipping breaks has been associated with reduced happiness and lower job satisfaction, which may ultimately compromise the quality of patient care. This quality improvement (QI) project examined whether the structured observance of scheduled lunch breaks enhances nurses’ subjective happiness and job satisfaction. Guided by Lewin’s Change Theory and the Donabedian Theoretical Framework and implemented using the Plan–Do–Study–Act (PDSA) framework, the project employed a quasi-experimental pre–post design during a six-week implementation period. Ten full-time nurses participated in the project. Investigator-designed Subjective Happiness and Job …

Improving Structured Handoff Documentation In A Pediatric Emergency Department, Deborah Hammett, Rebecca Matta, Jody Kieffer, Jillian Savage, Courtney Nelson

Department of Pediatrics Faculty Papers

INTRODUCTION: The I-PASS handoff tool guides provider handoffs and reduces adverse events in the inpatient setting. Transitions of care occur frequently in the emergency department (ED), and the unpredictable environment can lead to less structured handoffs. Our goal was to increase the percentage of handoff notes that include all 4 I-PASS components by 20% within 6 months.

METHODS: We developed a handoff note template for the pediatric ED that included 4 key I-PASS elements: illness severity, patient care summary, action list, and situational awareness/contingency planning. Our primary outcome measure was the percentage of handoff notes that contained all 4 I-PASS …

Analytical Review Of Current Educational Public Policy For California Department Of Education Common Core Curriculum Guidelines Pertaining To Law-Related Education For Grades K–12, Aubray Mcpherson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The problem addressed in this study was the lack of a mandated statewide law-related education (LRE) requirement within the California K–12 curriculum. Existing research linked structured LRE exposure to greater civic knowledge, stronger legal understanding, increased social responsibility, and reduced delinquency risk among disadvantaged youth. However, a gap exists due to the absence of integrated qualitative analyses combining prior LRE research with stakeholder perceptions. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the potential social, emotional, and economic implications associated with implementing a statewide LRE public policy. Guided by the conceptual framework consisting of new public administration and the …

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine

Microglia critically shape neuronal circuit development and function, yet their region-specific properties and roles in distinct circuits of the human brain remain poorly understood. In this study, we generated region-specific brain organoids (cortical, striatal, and midbrain), each integrated with human microglia, to fill this critical gap. Single-cell RNA sequencing uncovered six distinct microglial subtypes exhibiting unique regional signatures, including a subtype highly enriched for the GABAB receptor gene within striatal organoids. To investigate the contributions of microglia to neural circuitry, we created microglia-incorporated midbrain-striatal assembloids, modeling a core circuit node for many neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism. Using chemogenetics to activate …

Association Between Children’S Secondhand Co-Exposure To Tobacco And Cannabis Smoke And Elevated Urinary Cotinine Levels: A Cross-Sectional Analysis, Bradley N. Collins, Stephen J. Lepore, Vincent Berardi, Renee D. Goodwin, Karen Wilson, Mona Baishya Feb 2026

Association Between Children’S Secondhand Co-Exposure To Tobacco And Cannabis Smoke And Elevated Urinary Cotinine Levels: A Cross-Sectional Analysis, Bradley N. Collins, Stephen J. Lepore, Vincent Berardi, Renee D. Goodwin, Karen Wilson, Mona Baishya

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research

Background Cannabis use is far more common among adults who smoke tobacco than adults who do not, and its use is increasing among people who smoke tobacco with children living in the home. Given the well-established evidence that caregiver smoking is the primary source of children’s secondhand exposures to these products, the increasing trend in caregiver co-use is raising public health concerns about children’s co-exposure. Emerging data indicates that adult co-use is linked to additive health consequences, such as elevated nicotine and other tobacco-related toxicant blood levels, relative to use of only tobacco. It is unknown whether children’s co-exposure leads …

Enhancing Risk Governance In Agile Settings: Toward An Integrated Agile Framework For Strategic Risk Alignment, Mohammed Shaik Feb 2026

Enhancing Risk Governance In Agile Settings: Toward An Integrated Agile Framework For Strategic Risk Alignment, Mohammed Shaik

Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

Agile project management is widely used in dynamic and regulated environments because of its adaptability and iterative delivery (Beck et al., 2001). However, Agile teams often rely on informal risk practices that may limit visibility into enterprise-level risks (Stare, 2014). In contrast, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks provide structured oversight aligned with strategic objectives (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission [COSO], 2017), yet they are frequently viewed as fast-paced project settings. This misalignment creates governance challenges for organizations operating in complex environments.

This study examined how Agile practices can be integrated with ERM frameworks to strengthen strategic risk …

The Role Of Stakeholder Management In The Adaptive Reuse Of Historic Buildings: Balancing Social, Economic, And Community Interests, Karina G. Iavarone

Harrisburg University Dissertations and Theses

The adaptive reuse of historic buildings has emerged as a vital strategy for sustainable urban development. While such projects can preserve cultural heritage, revitalize communities, and stimulate economic growth, they often face significant challenges due to competing stakeholder priorities. The central problem addressed in this study is the lack of effective stakeholder management in adaptive reuse initiatives, which can result in project delays, inflated costs, and outcomes that overlook social sustainability.

The purpose of this qualitative, descriptive study was to explore how stakeholder management practices influence the success of adaptive reuse projects by balancing social, economic, and community interests. Three …

Although BRAF/MEK inhibitor (BRAFi/MEKi) therapy initially shows high efficacy in patients with BRAFV600 E/K cutaneous melanoma, resistance develops in over 75% of cases. We tested robustness of the umbrella trial strategy in this population by analyzing relationships between genomic status of a gene and associated downstream consequences at the protein level. The results revealed weak relationships among mutations, copy-number amplification, and protein expression and activation. An in vivo compound repurposing screen using 11 clinically relevant agents from an NCI-portfolio with pan-RTK, non-RTK, and/or PI3K-mTOR specificity identified dasatinib as most capable of restoring sensitivity to BRAFi/MEKi in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) …

Efficient DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair by homologous recombination (HR), as initiated by BRCA1 recruitment orchestrated by histone and non-histone proteins, is critical to genome stability, replication, transcription, and cancer avoidance. Here we reveal Heterochromatin Protein1 beta (HP1β) promotes BRCA1 enrichment at DNA DSB sites in gene-rich regions, and this is impaired by HP1β depletion. We find that HP1β is specifically enriched at DSBs within gene-rich regions via its Chromo Shadow Domain (CSD) that interacts with both Chromatin Assembly Factor 1 and the RING1A ubiquitinase component of Polycomb Repressor Complex 1. The resulting protein complex facilitates BRCA1 recruitment by promoting …
