Literature on Latino men and intervention for intimate partner violence/abuse (IPV/A) is slim. Over 100 men have voluntarily sought help for IPV/A perpetration from “The Men’s Group” (TMG) at St. Pius V parish in Chicago, IL (US) and remained engaged for extended periods. Given the rarity of prolonged non-court mandated engagement in batterer intervention programs (BIPs), a case study was conducted to explore how TMG functions. Drawing on multiple data sources, this study examined development and implementation of TMG, while also investigating contextual factors, motivators and facilitators of participants’ involvement. Data revealed that TMG functions within a supportive community context …

Preparing Clinical Faculty To Teach And Reinforce Hourly Rounding, Lisa Bailey
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A gap exists in the knowledge of clinical faculty teaching prelicensure students about hourly rounding. The purpose of this project was to develop an educational program to prepare clinical faculty teaching student nurses to conduct hourly rounding. Hourly rounding trained faculty ensure safe practice by students and adherence to hospital policies. Hourly rounding includes the 4 Ps, which entails the assessment of “potty”, pain, position, and possession/periphery. Models and theories used to inform the project included the American Academy of Pediatrics’ 10-step process for developing training courses, Knowles’ theory of adult learning, Kirkpatrick's evaluation model, and the Accreditation Commission for …

Background The United States has the highest maternal mortality and morbidity rates compared to its high-income peer nations. In high-income nations, a considerable amount of maternal morbidity cases are preventable and linked to provider-related factors. Better nurse work environments are associated with positive patient outcomes, but little is known about its impact on maternal morbidity. In this systematic review, we aim to identify the association between nurse work environment and maternal morbidity, specifically in high-income countries. Methods This systematic review will include original articles on the association between nurse work environment and maternal morbidity. CINAHL, PubMed/Medline and the Cochrane Central …

Adjunct Faculty Employment And Student Success In Texas Institutions Of Higher Education, Robin L. Palmer
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractJust over half of faculty members teaching in institutions of higher education (IHEs) in the United States work part time. Previous research on the relationship between part-time faculty employment and student success has produced conflicting findings and may have resulted in ineffective use of part-time faculty. The purpose of this retrospective, prediction study was to determine if the percent of part-time faculty, several institutional variables, and student demographics were significant predictors of retention and graduation rates at IHEs in Texas. Berger and Milem’s theory of organizational behavior and student outcomes grounded this study using secondary analysis of publicly available archival …

In the words of Sir Winston Churchill, “The difference between mere management and true leadership is communication.” Department leaders have a vital role to play at all institutional levels when it comes to achieving an optimal safety culture that promotes safety voice behavior.
At the university level, this role is to help the university develop a solid foundation that will support a strong safety culture. At this level, it can be a challenge to mobilize and sustain the necessary resources to effectively develop and communicate a clear, consistent message that is aligned with implicit and explicit reward structures.

Libraries
A survey concerning perceptions of academic librarians was conducted at a large, 4-year university with three populations: librarians, faculty, and undergraduate students. The high response rate and the use of an instrument based on previous studies offers the possibility of longitudinal comparison and the identification of relationships between groups within one environment. Results will be presented in a series of articles, beginning with this paper’s study introduction and literature review of librarian, faculty, and student perceptions of librarians. Subsequent papers will present results from the three surveys and offer analysis across the three groups. The literature review focused on research …

Upstate New York Science Librarians Conference
The reproducibility crisis in published scientific work is changing the way that research is designed and conducted. Librarians in academic institutions can play a key role in promoting improved adherence to evidence-based guidelines for performing literature reviews. The Cornell Systematic Review Team has developed a checklist, https://osf.io/2edg9/?pid=ezqpd, that can be used in research consultations as a conversation framework when assisting patrons with review design. This checklist is informed by widely accepted best practices for development of a sound systematic review protocol. Discussing this checklist with patrons promotes increased transparency, reduction of bias, and improved reproducibility of graduate student and …

Understanding Multigenerational Nurse-Faculty-Collaboration Strategies-A Delphi Study, Heather M. Fowler
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
Four distinct generations have come together to work cooperatively, producing higher quality nursing students who are engaged and satisfied in their learning experience from nursing faculty. The multigenerational nursing faculty workforce must learn to work together through positive collaboration, using teamwork strategies, and decreasing conflict and negative influences in the workplace. Strauss and Howe’s (1991) generational-cycle model depicted four archetypes that recur throughout history every 22 years; the life stages of generations provided the foundation for this study. Generations can come together if they understand what various generational cohorts perceive as positive collaboration factors, teamwork strategies, and negative influences. A …

A Meme Is Worth A Thousand Words: Universal Communication Through Memes, Marisa Mcgrady, Kathryn Elizabeth Cook
Faculty and Staff Publications & Presentations
With the rise of the digital age has come about a new form of communicating concepts—the meme: repeatable, transferable information. The purpose of this project is to understand the inclusive nature of internet communication not restricted by barriers. This format plays with the boundaries to imagination, creating a new form of communication not relying on language, color, or shape, but the interchange of these within an established concept. Memes have created a universal, living form of expression irrelevant of culture, region, age, or language in which individuals cross normal borders of expression and communication. We attempt to define the modern …
