More Than Brides Alliance—Marriage: No Child’S Play, Endline Evaluation Brief, Population Council
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
This brief summarizes key results from the endline evaluation of the More than Brides Alliance (MTBA) project “Marriage: No Child’s Play” (MNCP) in India, Malawi, Mali, and Niger. The MTBA consists of partners Save the Children Netherlands, Simavi, Oxfam Novib, and the Population Council, along with 25 local implementing partners. The MNCP project—which took place from 2016 to 2020—aimed at being holistic and targeting pathways to child marriage on multiple levels simultaneously, treating communities as either having the full MNCP package or no intervention. The Population Council’s MNCP evaluation was designed to estimate program impact and trends among girls at …

Threshold Concepts In Web Development: The Impact Of Education And Experience On The Perceptions Of Practitioners, Michael Lee Mick
College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations
The Threshold Concepts (TCs) framework posits characteristics of critical concepts that enable a learner to see things in a new and unforgettable way that allows the incorporation of cognitive approaches and skills needed by professionals in the discipline. All previous research has been qualitatively oriented toward discovery of candidate TCs, without, so far, quantitative studies of the candidate TCs recognition within the professional ranks. An underrepresented group in previous research is that of Web development professionals.
This proposal describes initial quantitative research utilizing the TCs framework in the Web development area to measure the perception of candidate TCs by professionals …

The explosion of medical information demands a thorough reconsideration of medical education, including what we teach and assess, how we educate, and whom we educate. Physicians of the future will need to be self-aware, self-directed, resource-effective team players who can synthesize and apply summarized information and communicate clearly. Training in metacognition, data science, informatics, and artificial intelligence is needed. Education programs must shift focus from content delivery to providing students explicit scaffolding for future learning, such as the Master Adaptive Learner model. Additionally, educators should leverage informatics to improve the process of education and foster individualized, precision education. Finally, attributes …

Human resources as state capital is determined by the quality of education. In the opening part of the 1945 Constitution, the Indonesian state has chosen one of its country's goals to educate the nation's life. Therefore, the government has the task of providing Guarantees for all citizens to get high-quality education. The constitution must issue a budget of 20% of the total budget (APBN) for the purpose of high quality national education. However, not the results obtained, received in accordance with those produced. Indonesia's PISA score is still far below the average PISA score achieved by OECD member countries. Also …

The Outcome Of Relationships Between Students, Parents, And School Personnel While Desegregating Schools Within Mississippi 1950s To 1970s, Delaynie Voortman
Voces Novae
Between 1950 and the end of the 1970s, schools in Mississippi went through the formal process of legal desegregation. The oral histories of a select few of these students live on to explain the hardships Black students faced in segregated classrooms and integrated classrooms alike. Students, parents and teachers who integrated the education system were forever changed by community activism, local legislature, and personal interactions. This paper will examine and compare how different teacher and student relationships impacted the various futures that students went on to live, shaping their decisions on education and on life.

Examining The Factors Influencing The Mobile Learning Usage During Covid-19 Pandemic: An Integrated Sem-Ann Method, Khadija Alhumaid, Mohammed Habes, Said A. Salloum
All Works
The way in which the emotion of fear affects the technology adoption of students and teachers amid the COVID-19 pandemic is examined in this study. Mobile Learning (ML) has been used in the study as an educational social platform at both public and private higher-education institutes. The key hypotheses of this study are based on how COVID-19 has influenced the incorporation of mobile learning (ML) as the pandemic brings about an increase in different kinds of fear. The major kinds of fear that students and teachers/instructors are facing at this time include: fear because of complete lockdown, fear of experiencing …

Meeting The Moment: The Gender And Education Community's Response To Covid-19, Evidence For Gender & Education Resource (Eger)
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
Across the globe, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt girls’ education. With sudden school closures, social gathering restrictions, and shifting funding priorities, organizations have had to halt, adapt, or create new girls’ education programming to meet the challenges of this moment. It is more important than ever to coordinate our efforts to ensure girls receive a quality education as we navigate the pandemic’s complex effects. To target COVID-19 response efforts effectively and efficiently, we must first understand who is doing what and where in the global gender and education ecosystem. This is an initial snapshot of global COVID-19 girls’ education …

Intentional Design: Reaching The Most Excluded Girls In The Poorest Communities—A Guide For Practitioners And Advocates, Judith Bruce, Sophie Soares
Poverty, Gender, and Youth
The Intentional Design guide is a sourcebook that offers step-wise technical guidance for utilizing the Intentional Design approach, an evidence-based model for the design of girl-centered programs that generates a cycle of information collection and analysis.
The tools outlined in this guide have been applied in sites in 44 countries. Twenty-one detailed field reports—including an extensive discussion of the Abriendo Oportunidades program in Guatemala—set the scene in each context by describing key challenges and problems faced, present how tools were used, and explain the eventual resolutions of the Intentional Design process.

Esser Logic Model For Teacher Residencies, Prepared To Teach, Bank Street College
Prepared to Teach
This document provides support for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) who might wish to use their Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds to develop teacher residency programs. Residencies are explicitly allowable under federal guidance, as they can address both immediate COVID-19 learning opportunity gaps and help districts "build back better" by diversifying the teaching force, reducing turnover, and improving outcomes. The logic model above is part of the new resource that LEAs can use to complete their required ESSER plans.

Numeracy
The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of quantitative literacy--for policy makers and the public at large. While all aspects of numeracy have been shown relevant to the past year, our need for broader statistical literacy appear particularly pressing. Pandemic experiences may motivate greater interest in developing numeracy skills.
