Vincentian Studies
The consideration of “Vincentian leadership” exists within the larger context of the loss of religious personnel from Catholic universities across the United States. For the religious mission and identity to remain strong at these institutions, Vincentian leaders must leverage a primarily lay-led, self-sustaining culture.

Education Problems With Urban Migratory Children In China, Fei Yan
Education Problems With Urban Migratory Children In China, Fei Yan
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
In China, due to the Residence Registration System and Segmented Governmental Management of Education, the educatioal problems with urban migratory children have been overlooked for a long time. The results are, on one hand, these children have no access to Public-Funded School because they are not categorized as local residents; on the other hand the illegal Schools for Migrant Workers' Children exist in many cities. The satisfactory solution to the problem will be a win-win process: the promotion of migratory children's education will not only benefit this minority group and the communities in which they live, but also contribute to …
Education Definitions For The Parameters Of Georgia's Hope Scholarship: Amend Certain Definitions Relating To Hope Scholarships And Grants; Limit The Number Of Quarter Or Semester Hours For Which Hope Scholarships May Be Received At Public And Private Postsecondary Institutions; Provide For Students In Professional Level Programs; Provide For Related Matters; Repeal Conflicting Laws; And For Other Purposes, Christopher J. Sullivan
Georgia State University Law Review
The bill would have changed definitions associated with implementation of Georgia's HOPE scholarship program. Specifically, it would have limited to 127 the number of semester hours for which a student in Georgia's postsecondary institutions may receive HOPE scholarship funding. If enacted, the bill would have applied to all postsecondary educational programs at private and public schools that grant baccalaureate degrees. The bill would also have eliminated differentiation among program titles such as associate and baccalaureate when considering eligibility for HOPE scholarship funding. The bill's provisions would not have taken effect until the 2005 fall semester. Prior statutory definitions would have …
Education Elementary And Postsecondary Education: Amend The "Quality Basic Education Act"; Change Certain Provisions Relating To Determination Of Enrollment By Institutional Programs; Authorize The Establishment Of The Georgia Virtual School; Provide For Rules And Regulations; Provide For A Georgia Virtual School Grant Account; Provide For Statutory Construction; Provide For Related Matters; Provide An Effective Date; Repeal Conflicting Laws; And For Other Purposes, Kristen Swift
Georgia State University Law Review
The Act authorizes the State Board of Education to establish a Georgia Virtual School where students may enroll in state-funded courses via the Internet. All Georgia students who are age 21 or younger are eligible to enroll, but the Act gives public school students priority. The Act also authorizes the State Board of Education to establish rules and regulations, including the processes for enrollment and reporting grades on students' transcripts. Students may register for courses in excess of the maximum number of courses allowed per year at a tuition rate the State Board of Education will establish. The Professional Standards …
Texas Needs More Drug Courts., Bryan S. Oathout
Texas Needs More Drug Courts., Bryan S. Oathout
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
Drug courts are the nation’s newest legal development in the war on drugs. These courts attempt to stop drug abuse through a treatment-based alternative court which focuses on an offender’s addiction and decluttering the courts. The main goal of drug courts is rehabilitation, not punishment. Drug courts help diminish the cost of putting drug-abusing offenders into our criminal justice system which causes prison and jail overcrowding. Fighting drug abuse also drains our economic resources. Since the implementation of drug courts in 1989, over seventy percent of drug-abusing offenders have either successfully completed the drug court program or are still participating …

Department of Jefferson Headache Center Papers and Presentations
The social perception of headache, everywhere at low levels in industrialised countries, becomes totally absent in developing ones. Headache disorders came into the World Health Organization's strategic priorities after publication of the 2001 World Health Report. Among the leading causes of disability, migraine was ranked 19th for adults of both sexes together and 12th for females. The Global Campaign (GC) to Reduce the Burden of Headache Worldwide was planned by the major international headache organizations together with WHO in order to identify and remove those cultural, social and educational barriers recognised as responsible factors for the inadequate treatment of headache …
The Following Article Addresses A Package Of Immigration Bills That Would Have Affected A Variety Of Titles In The Official Code Of Georgia Annotated, Susan S. Blum
Georgia State University Law Review
HR 256 - The resolution would have proposed an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Georgia to bar undocumented immigrants from the following: receiving any public services provided by the state, receiving any publicly funded health care services provided by the state, accessing public elementary and secondary schools of the state, and attending any public postsecondary institution of the state. The resolution would have presented the proposed constitutional amendment to Georgia voters for ratification or rejection. SB 169 - The bill would have prohibited any department, agency, instrumentality, or political subdivision of the State of Georgia from entering …

On Academic Rigor As Simple Consistency And Interactive Standards, Scott Cawelti
UNIversitas: Journal of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
Truth be told, "Academic Rigor" doesn't have all that many supporters in academia. At best the concept fosters mixed feelings, especially in younger faculty; at worst, outright avoidance. Of course "rigor" as a concept gets lip service in catalogs and course descriptions, but as an applied value it's hard to come by, at least from what I've observed. Why is this?

Academic Rigor And How I Failed College Chemistry, Darek Benesh
UNIversitas: Journal of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
Truthfully, when I first received the e-mail with the heading Academic Rigor (inviting me to write this essay), I thought the message would contain an advertisement for one of those pseudo-wonder pills which claim to remedy deficiencies in such thiemory recall or attention span – some way to increase antioxidants or neuron transmitting potential. Academic Rigor: A Panacea for What Ails Education Today. In our culture, multimillion-dollar industries revolve around such myths – the “quick-fix” for difficult issues.

A Motivational Strategy That Accommodates Middle School Special Education Students: Achieving Academic Success, Susan J. Koempel
All Graduate Projects
The project provides middle school teachers with a handbook for clarifying academic targets in the general education U. S. history classroom. This strategy clearly defines, in a pictorial manner, the interconnectedness that exists between report cards, progress reports, and quarterly curriculum assignments. The intervention of this organizational strategy will assist students in decisions, regarding the timely completion and turn in of assignments, by creating an overall awareness of the progress of time and assignment due dates during the quarter. Originally, the production of the intervention was done by the special education staff so that there would be minimal time energy …

Enhancing Motivation Using The Constructs Of Flow In Museum Education Activities, Maria C. Grant Edd
Enhancing Motivation Using The Constructs Of Flow In Museum Education Activities, Maria C. Grant Edd
Dissertations
While many extol the general value of museum fieldtrips, few can describe the specific parameters needed to make the excursion an educational benefit. Oftentimes, a day at the Museum of Natural History or time spent at the local art gallery is casually put into place with little forethought or attention to activity details. This research intended to utilize the parameters of flow theory and children's interest to investigate the phenomenon of student motivation while viewing an exhibit. Informal learning environments offer educators the opportunity to look beyond the halls of their campus in a manner that allows augmentation of curriculum …
Religious Schools: For Spirit, (F)Or Nation, Lily Kong
Religious Schools: For Spirit, (F)Or Nation, Lily Kong
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
In this paper I draw attention to the study of 'unofficially sacred' sites in geographies of religion, which provide significant insights into the construction of religious identity and community, and the intersections of sacred and secular. I show that such sites deserve as much attention as places of worship (the more conventional focus in the geographical study of religion) in our understanding of the place of religion in contemporary urban society. In particular, using the case of Islamic religious schools in Singapore, I examine how Muslim identities and community are negotiated within multicultural and multireligious contexts, and particularly within one …
Field Force Dynamics, Policy Adoption, And Educational Change: Formulating A Heuristic Model, Timothy E. Jordan
Field Force Dynamics, Policy Adoption, And Educational Change: Formulating A Heuristic Model, Timothy E. Jordan
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
This research investigated factors that influence secondary teacher decisions on policy adoption. Adoption, as used in this study, is defined to include both the decision to adopt a policy and the action of implementing the policy, a process that requires changes in teacher behavior as well as classroom and school culture. One of the major difficulties with policy implementation is the failure to achieve effective behavioral changes in school sites and actual classrooms. It is anticipated that the results of this research will be useful to teachers as well as developers and administrators of future policies. The theoretical foundation for …
