This project developed an educational program for parents of children in the lower economic classes. The program consisted of a series of workshops for parents to help them enrich the prereading background of their preschool and primary-grade children. The major emphasis was to acquaint parents with children's literature and with the importance of their role in the reading development of their children.

The purpose of this study was to compare two methods of instruction in the teaching of parent-child interaction skills. By comparing a highly structured method and a less structured method of instruction, data were compiled in order to determine the manner in which interaction skills could be most effectively taught to parents of three- and four-year old children. The study was conducted in six parishes within Louisiana and all subjects in the study were volunteers. The main problem investigated in this study was: does the use of the tachistoscopic technique result in greater rhythmic sight-reading performance than conventional methods among junior high music students? A subordinate problem investigated was: does the location of the image in the visual field in the upper left hand corner result in greater rhythmic sight-reading performance than conventional image locations among junior high music students? Subjects for the study consisted of 86 sixth grade music students enrolled at Denham Springs Junior High School, Denham Springs, Louisiana. Financing intercollegiate athletics has become an ever present issue with the colleges and universities of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Inflation and other factors have driven the cost of running a college sports program to alarmingly high levels. The literature is full of expressions of concern about the financial future of intercollegiate athletic competition. This study investigated trends in financing intercollegiate athletics among the 10 Southeastern Conference Universities. A two-part survey questionnaire was completed, one part by the athletic director and one by the business manager at each of these institutions. Blood Lactate Removal During Varying Intensities Of Active Recovery Following Supramaximal Work., Stephen Lollar Dodd

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of varying intensities of recovery exercise on the level of blood lactate after a short, supramaximal exercise bout. Seven males were advised of the testing protocol and consented to serve as subjects. All subjects performed an oxygen cost of cycling test and maximal oxygen uptake (VO(,2)(' )max) test prior to the commencement of the recovery tests. The subjects then performed one of four treatments on separate days with 1-4 days of rest between tests. Preceding each treatment the subjects cycled at a workload corresponding to 150% of VO(,2)(' )max for …

The Project Palatisha Developmental Checklist (PPDC) is a preschool screening instrument that is used by many different tribal Head Start programs throughout the western United States. An item analysis was made on the Cognitive, Fine Motor, and Language subtests of the PPDC. The sample population consisted of 202 children ages 3 through 5 who were enrolled in Head Start programs. The Head Start programs who participated were located on the Hualapai, Hopi, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Makah, Quileute, Chehalis, and Yakima Indian Reservations. The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) of Mount Lawley College has been responsible for the development of two correspondence courses for'adult Aborigines since 1978. Over the past four years the initial concept of a one year external study course bridging through to tertiary study courses for Aboriginal "aides" has broadened considerably, and encompasses two programs each of 4 units of study available to all post school Aboriginals.
In the first year of the course operation ATEP commissioned an initial feasibility research study and since that time no further studies of the program has been undertaken. The courses have changed dramatically …

Problem. The primary intent of this investigation was to ascertain the extent to which technological subject matter has been incorporated into the courses offered in Northern California high schools. Personal opinions as well as factual information regarding this issue were elicited from representative samples of high school administrators and recent high school graduates. Procedure. Random samples of high school principals and community college/university students enrolled in English 1A classes were assembled. A Technology Education Inventory was developed for each group surveyed. This study investigated the effects of videotape modeling of self-disclosing behavior on counselor trainees. More specifically, the study was designed to determine whether an increased willingness to disclose one's attitudes and opinions in appropriate situations could be taught to counselor trainees as part of their training. The subjects were two groups of counselor trainees selected, not on a random basis, but on the basis of their availability from two different sections in the Counseling Practicum at Fresno State University. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role and importance of the program specialist's position in the California Special Education Local Plan Areas and to ascertain the primary responsibilities of the program specialist's position.
Procedures. Ninety-seven California Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) were surveyed. Due to the variations in geographic size, average daily attendance, and actual years (0-5) of the SELPAs, subgroups of the study focused on the variables of size and longevity. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether students in bilingually designated classes who received B/CC instruction by a teacher with a B/CC Specialist Credential have high gains in reading and math when compared with students who received instruction by a teacher with a B/CC Certificate of Competence or a B/CC Waiver Certificate. This study measured bilingual instruction based on a statistical comparison between student achievement and the kind of bilingual certificate.

The intention of this project is to develop a middle school extracurricular program which encourages academic excellence. Providing an enrichment program was the stated goal of a community- staff meeting on district priorities. A questionnaire sent to area schools and a thorough review of available literature revealed no existing program to use as a role model . The Corps of Discovery program attempts to meet the need for encouraging and rewarding academic excellence.
