Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This is a study of the administration of aid by bilateral, multilateral and non-government organisations in Zambia during the period 1990 to 2000. The particular purpose of this study is to compare the aid programs administered by the above organisations to the primary education sector using a case study approach. The study critically analyses how the performance of these organisation is or is not influenced by setting clear objectives, by elaborating planning processes and implementation arrangements. The study uses a matrix table developed through a NUD*IST retrieval reports generated from the data collected from each organisation’s documentation and in-depth interviews …

Leaders from every important research sector (industry laboratories, academic health …
Internet Use Policies In The Public Schools Of Nebraska: Implications For Health Education, David A. Dennison
Internet Use Policies In The Public Schools Of Nebraska: Implications For Health Education, David A. Dennison
Student Work
Nebraska school board presidents (n=604) were asked to respond to a 36-item questionnaire that addressed the issues of health education and the Internet use policy regulating Internet use in the public schools. The response rate was 22.3 percent (n=135). Nebraska school board presidents reported that health education was not an important item to take into consideration when developing an Internet use policy, but reported that that sexual content, drug content, violence-related material and commercial content, respectively were very important items the Internet use policy should regulate. Thus, this study revealed that the school board presidents of Nebraska were not aware …

Correlation Of A Social Skills Self-Rating Survey And A Teacher Rating Inventory For Students At A Residential School For The Deaf, James Thomas Haley
Correlation Of A Social Skills Self-Rating Survey And A Teacher Rating Inventory For Students At A Residential School For The Deaf, James Thomas Haley
Student Work
Students aged 12 to 15 at a Midwestern residential school for the deaf completed the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Youngsters (MESSY- DHH). Faculty at the school completed the Meadow Kendall Social Emotional Assessment Inventory (SEAI) to rate the behavior of the same students. Pearson’s correlations were conducted to determine if relationships existed between scores on the MESSY-DHH and the SEAI. Results indicated inconsistent correlations between scores on the MESSY-DHH and individual scale scores on the SEAI.

The Effect Of Educational And Residential Characteristics On The Private Return To Education, Dwight Adamson, James Swenson
The Effect Of Educational And Residential Characteristics On The Private Return To Education, Dwight Adamson, James Swenson
Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)
This paper attempts to investigate the individual wage rate of return to college education. Over the last twenty years, the return to college education has increased dramatically. We propose to investigate how the return to college differs across educational and residential characteristics. We first consider differential returns to an associate, bachelor, advanced, and professional degrees and what characteristics of an individual's college education influence the rate of return to different degrees. Secondly, we focus on the variation in the return to college education in different areas of residence by comparing the return to education across regions and metropolitan and nonmetropolitan …
Efforts To Enhance Stakeholder Communications In North Carolina's Wildlife Damage Control Agent System, Peter T. Bromley, Carl W. Betsill
Efforts To Enhance Stakeholder Communications In North Carolina's Wildlife Damage Control Agent System, Peter T. Bromley, Carl W. Betsill
Wildlife Damage Management Conference Proceedings
In 1995, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) established policy and rules for handling of nuisance wildlife by Wildlife Damage Control Agents (WDCA). The policy required a one-day long training session, culminating in an open book, certification examination. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) conducted the training and administered the examination. The certification-training program covered principles of wildlife damage management, wildlife laws and regulations, humane handling of animals and euthanasia, human health risks from exposure to wildlife, professional ethics, and sources of technical information. Between Octoberl995 and March 2000,7 certification-training sessions were held and 289 WDCA's were certified, with …

Bump, Set, Spiked: Determining Whether The National Collegiate Athletic Association Is A Recipient Of Federal Funds Under Title Ix, Matthew P. Hamner
Missouri Law Review
Since the enactment of the Education Amendments of 1972, a major issue facing the National Collegiate Athletic Association ("NCAA") and its member schools has been the applicability of Title IX of the Amendments to those organizations. Title IX provides that no organization that operates educational programs may discriminate on the basis of sex if that program receives federal financial assistance Like many other federal antidiscrimination acts, the main debate under Title IX involves when a particular organization can be deemed to be "receiving" federal financial assistance. While the majority of NCAA member schools receive federal funds, the NCAA as an …

The Role Of Education In The Treatment Of Chronic Pain Patients: A Quantitative Study Of Factors That Influence The Self -Management Of Chronic Pain, Donna L. Agan Edd
The Role Of Education In The Treatment Of Chronic Pain Patients: A Quantitative Study Of Factors That Influence The Self -Management Of Chronic Pain, Donna L. Agan Edd
Dissertations
The factors involved in the successful self-management of chronic pain are not well understood. Many issues complicate addressing these factors. Individual suffering, exhaustion of family resources, and the costs to society for medical care, lost wages, welfare and disability benefits demand increasingly more resources each year. At the micro level, patients who live the daily rigors of chronic pain want medical science to solve their malady. At the macro level, health plan administrators want their patients to successfully self-manage pain with the least medical intervention and cost, because they know a cure is not probable. In the middle, the medical …

In addition to completing the ORAS-P, students in the sample were asked the following demographic questions: gender, age, city and state of birth, name and location of high school …
Perceived Barriers To The Teaching Of Critical Thinking Skills By Nursing Faculty In Generic Bsn Programs In Tennessee, Renee C. Shell
Perceived Barriers To The Teaching Of Critical Thinking Skills By Nursing Faculty In Generic Bsn Programs In Tennessee, Renee C. Shell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Teaching critical thinking is a national education goal. The ability to think critically is considered an essential skill of nursing graduates and is a necessary component of competent nursing practice. Therefore, nursing programs must address critical thinking for accreditation. The literature reports that teachers in all areas of education are having difficulties infusing critical thinking teaching strategies into their current teaching practices and critical thinking is lacking in new nursing graduates. This research study sought to identify barriers to the implementation of critical thinking teaching strategies as perceived by nursing faculty in generic, BSN programs in Tennessee. Data were collected …

The Effects Of Structured One-On-One Tutoring In Sight Word Recognition Of First-Grade Students At-Risk For Reading Failure, Laureen Goers Mayfield
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of an alternative reading program on the performance of at-risk first graders. Sixty first graders from three north Louisiana public elementary schools with high poverty rates, who were determined by their teachers and principals to be functioning in the bottom 20 to 30% of first grade reading students, were purposefully selected. Students were pretested on three subtests of the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test-Revised (WRMT-R), Form G: Letter Identification, Word Identification, and Word Attack. Participants were randomly assigned to either a control or an experimental group. Experimental group students received 15 …
