An Autoethnographic And Relational Exploration Of Identity Negotiation Within Romantic Relationships Between Nonbinary Partners And Cisgender Women, Maddison L. Russell
An Autoethnographic And Relational Exploration Of Identity Negotiation Within Romantic Relationships Between Nonbinary Partners And Cisgender Women, Maddison L. Russell
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation explores how trans and cisgender partners negotiate gender identity, care, and relational well-being through an autoethnographic examination of everyday communication. The study draws from eighteen personal narratives across family, academic, and romantic contexts to trace how gender-based microaggressions and cisnormative expectations become embedded in ordinary talk, gestures, and silences, shaping identity development and relational stability. At its core, this work argues that relationality emerges as a pervasive and constitutive condition that shapes how affirmation, misrecognition, and belonging are experienced within trans/cis relationships and across time. Through examining moments of misunderstanding, minimization, and avoidance, the study reveals how microaggressions …

Children’s Nutrition Research Center Staff Publications
Background: Digital health interventions (DHIs) can extend the reach of disease prevention interventions; however, few are evidence-based, theoretically grounded, or developed for high-risk youth and families. Co-design approaches engage end users in the design and development of the DHI, which can lead to increased accessibility and engagement.
Objective: This study aimed to describe the adaptation of an evidence-based diabetes prevention program for remote, digital delivery.
Methods: The adaptation of the in-person intervention was guided by a modified Inclusive Digital Health Intervention Design to Promote Health Equity framework and conducted in collaboration with Hispanic adolescents (n=23) with obesity (BMI ≥95th percentile) …

Preventing Youth Crime And Violence: Intervention And Evaluation Issues, Nick Axford, Sajid Humayun
Preventing Youth Crime And Violence: Intervention And Evaluation Issues, Nick Axford, Sajid Humayun
Peninsula Medical School
Whilst youth offending has been declining, there have been increases in serious youth violence in the last decade. Therefore, there is a pressing need to prevent youth crime and violence owing to its prevalence, harms and cost to society. Part of the effort to address this involves identifying and disseminating evidence-based practice. We explore key challenges in this endeavour and offer ideas for how to address them. These fall into two categories. The first concerns the focus and nature of interventions and the imperative to increase the effectiveness of our collective efforts. We start by considering neglected issues and groups …
Calculated Risks: The Power Of Predictive Risk Models To Regulate Families Of Color, Ashleigh Washington
Calculated Risks: The Power Of Predictive Risk Models To Regulate Families Of Color, Ashleigh Washington
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation examines predictive risk modelling (PRM) in New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS), specifically exploring AI-enabled design features, practices, and encoded and racialized assumptions about risk in child welfare prevention services. Guided by Critical Race Theory and the Algorithmic Ecology framework, this study traces how PRM in ACS evolved from a service termination tool into a broader, largely internal surveillance apparatus that leverages families’ personal information, including health information, to assess risk of future maltreatment and to evaluate contracted service providers. Drawing on analysis of public records and in-depth interviews with Black parents, the findings describe how …

The Experiences Of The Transfer Of Learning Path: Msw's Perceptions Of Organizational Influences, Alexis Howard
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Public child welfare agencies make substantial financial and organizational investments to support workforce members returning to school to obtain advanced degrees, most notably the Master of Social Work (MSW); however, challenges remain in ensuring that newly acquired knowledge and skills are effectively and continuously applied into practice settings, a process known as transfer of learning. The work environment plays a critical role in shaping organizational conditions that either support or impede successful transfer of learning, yet empirical research remains limited in guiding public child welfare organizations to develop strategies that sustain educational investments and contribute to improved outcomes for children, …

Good Mothers: Black Disabled Mothers & The Family Policing System, Siobhan Pokorney
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Good Mothers: Black Disabled Mothers & the Family Policing System is a qualitative study utilizing 16 in-depth individual interviews with mothers who broadly identified as Black, disabled mothers who had at least one interaction with the family policing system as adults in or around NYC. The study examines the work these mothers engage in to navigate their identities and strategically present themselves as good mothers while facing state surveillance and oppressive systems (specifically the family policing system) which automatically frame them as “unfit mothers.” It traces their experiences and the identity work that they engage in through the anticipatory trauma …

Selected Social Change Portfolios in Prevention, Intervention, and Consultation
Goal Statement
My goal to address alcohol-related traffic fatalities in Whatcom County is to reduce the prevalence of these fatalities by 20% over two years through preventative community education and targeted enforcement programs to decrease high-risk drinking behaviors in college-age youth.
Significant Findings
There has been a significant rise in alcohol-related traffic fatalities within Whatcom County, upwards of 50% of fatal car accidents in 2024 involving alcohol; 67.8% higher than the national average (CDC, 2024; Starks et al.,2025). The population most impacted by this public health risk is 21-24 year-olds, especially young men, who are four times more likely to …

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This paper introduces Integral Global Attunement (IGA) as a transformative paradigm in global leadership, emerging in response to the unprecedented shifts catalyzed by theCOVID-19 pandemic. Rooted in the fusion of psychological insight, intercultural consciousness, and ethical stewardship, IGA proposes a fifth wave of leadership—one that transcends transactional strategies to embrace identity, ethics, and relational interconnectedness as central pillars of influence. The writing argues that the current global crises reflect not merely external disruption but an inner dissonance within humanity, calling for a deeper, multi-aware model of leadership. Through the triadic lens of identity (e.g., multicultural integration, visionary consciousness), ethics (e.g., …
Perceptions Of Juvenile Justice Professionals Regarding The Effectiveness Of Juvenile Reentry Programs And Recidivism In The Southwest Region, Lei Anne Johnson
Perceptions Of Juvenile Justice Professionals Regarding The Effectiveness Of Juvenile Reentry Programs And Recidivism In The Southwest Region, Lei Anne Johnson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Juvenile recidivism persists in the U.S. justice system, highlighting the need for effective reentry programs. However, limited research exists on juvenile justice professionals’ perceptions of program success. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore these professionals’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of juvenile reentry programs in reducing recidivism. Guided by Bandura’s social learning theory, the study examined how observation and modeling influence youth behavior during reentry. The research questions focused on professionals’ perceptions of program effectiveness and how these perceptions impact recidivism reduction efforts. A qualitative phenomenological design involved semi-structured interviews with 13 juvenile justice professionals in the southwest …

The Supreme Court And Public Law In 2023, Kate Glover Berger
The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference
This article discusses the Supreme Court of Canada’s public law judgments in 2023. It was the basis for the opening address at the 27th Annual Osgoode Hall Law School Constitutional Cases Conference. In the Conference’s tradition, this annual review is divided into two parts. The first part (Part II of the article, following Part I: Introduction) presents institutional and quantitative data about the Court’s work in 2023. It focuses on the composition of the Court, the historically low number of judgments released in 2023, rates of agreement and dissent, and the dominance of public law on the Court’s docket in …

Prescribing Plenary Powers:The Evolution And Intersection Of Criminal Andhealth Jurisdiction In Canadian Federalism, Benjamin Perryman
The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference
Using the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decision in Murray-Hall v. Québec (Attorney General) as a focal point, this paper tracks the evolution and intersection of the federal criminal law power and the provincial health law power in Canadian federalism cases. Part II of the paper examines existing methods used to prescribe plenary powers, including interpretative narrowing (formalism), expansion of concurrent federalism (double aspect), and purpose review (colourability). The paper shows that the Supreme Court of Canada has applied these prescriptions to the federal criminal law power but rarely to the provincial health law power. Part III looks around the …
The Legality Of Incorporating Provincial Law Into A Criminal Offence, Colton Fehr
The Legality Of Incorporating Provincial Law Into A Criminal Offence, Colton Fehr
The Supreme Court Law Review, Third Series: Osgoode's Annual Constitutional Cases Conference
The drafters of the 1867 Constitution Act were unmoved by the argument that the substantive criminal law ought to be crafted by each individual province as a means to preserve regional values. They instead assigned the criminal law power to the federal government to better promote legal stability and clarity when the state attempts to deprive a citizen of their liberty. A recently rejuvenated practice of incorporating provincial offences within the definition of criminal offences unfortunately ignores the rationale underlying this division of authority. Identifying this inconsistency would have proven useful in Murray-Hall v. Québec (Attorney General) as a more …

More Than “Just A Misdemeanor”: Why Diversion Is Critical For Low Level Youth Offenders, Lynn Williams, Ariana M. Ellis
More Than “Just A Misdemeanor”: Why Diversion Is Critical For Low Level Youth Offenders, Lynn Williams, Ariana M. Ellis
Akron Law Student Publications
Over the past two decades, juvenile arrests have declined sharply nationwide. Yet, during this same period, policies and penalties governing youth have grown increasingly punitive. Many lawmakers continue to advance “tough on crime” legislation that subjects all youth in the juvenile justice system to the same level of sanction, regardless of the seriousness of their offense or prior legal history. This article argues that juvenile delinquency should be addressed through individualized assessments of both risk and needs, rather than through uniform punitive measures. Unnecessary or disproportionate court involvement, particularly for low-risk youth, can produce significant short- and long-term harms, disrupt …

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts
In Montana, approximately one in seven children live in a food-insecure household, with rural Montanans in particular facing significant barriers. Existing needs-based food assistance programs, such as SNAP and WIC, have structural weaknesses: SNAP benefits are often not sufficient to last through the month, and those eligible for these programs face a confusing application process, shame and stigma, and logistical hurdles, such as limited transportation.
“Feeding Missoula” began with an evaluation of how current food assistance programs met or failed to meet the needs of rural youth. Our methodology integrated a comprehensive review of existing literature and structured interviews with …
