Impact Of Staff Education To Clinical Documentation Integrity Team, Leyna Belcher
Impact Of Staff Education To Clinical Documentation Integrity Team, Leyna Belcher
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The doctoral project investigates the impact of education on Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) nurses in enhancing the accuracy and quality of clinical documentation within healthcare organizations. Clinical documentation plays a crucial role in accurately reflecting patient care and is essential for capturing proper diagnoses, coding, and reimbursement. In contrast, inaccurate or incomplete documentation can lead to misdiagnoses, poor patient outcomes, and financial deficits. Due to frequent updates in clinical guidelines and coding standards, CDI professionals require continuous, specialized training to stay informed with ever-changing medical terminology, disease processes, and coding regulations. By enhancing the CDI education, the aim is to …

Oxytocin, a hormone linked to reproduction and health, may mediate life-history trade-offs across the human life course. Yet, how oxytocin naturally varies with age remains poorly understood. Here, working with the Tsimane, forager-horticulturalists of lowland Bolivia, we collected the largest sample of oxytocin measurements to date (n = 1,242 samples, n = 405 individuals, age = 2 to 84 y, 51% female), and i) examined how oxytocin varies throughout the life course in females and males, and ii) investigated potential drivers of age- and sex-specific variation. Our sample provides rare insight into the relationship between oxytocin and age in a …

Guillaume Dustan's Ethico-Politics Of The Body, Noah Mertz
Guillaume Dustan's Ethico-Politics Of The Body, Noah Mertz
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
In this MA Thesis, I lay out a synthetic overview of polemical French writer Guillaume Dustan's (1965-2005) political philosophy. He is criticized first as irresponsible and dangerous for his defense of barebacking (sex without condoms) in the midst of the AIDS epidemic, and then, after his death, as a neoliberal/anarcho-capitalist for his focus on individual liberty. My overview touches on Dustan's Freudian belief that repression is the root of all social ills, his functional ethics of self-responsibility, the revaluation of heteronormative Judeo-Christian morality towards 'virtusex,' and his social contract that minimizes repression. Dustan’s goal is for you to autonomously subjectify …

Functional Impact Of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Rs4129009 (Ile775val) On Human Toll-Like Receptor 10, Audrey N. Koti
Biology Student Research
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a subclass of pattern recognition receptors within the
innate immune system that detect pathogen-associated and danger-associated molecular patterns,
thereby initiating host defense responses. The human TLR family comprises ten receptors (TLR1
– TLR10), each recognizing structurally conserved microbial motifs such as bacterial
lipoproteins and viral nucleic acids. The ligand specificities, adaptor protein recruitment, and
downstream signaling cascades have been well-characterized for TLR1 – TLR9, which
predominantly engage MyD88- or TRIF-dependent pathways to activate pro-inflammatory
transcription factors including NF-κB. In contrast, the ligand specificity and intracellular
signaling mechanisms of TLR10 have yet to be fully elucidated. Emerging …

Theses and Dissertations
Mycobacterium ulcerans, the causative agent of Buruli ulcer, produces mycolactone, a polyketide toxin traditionally studied for its role in human pathogenesis. This dissertation presents a comprehensive spatiotemporal analysis of M. ulcerans and mycolactone producing mycobacteria (MPM) ecology in the Americas and also reveals mycolactone's role in the environment as a microbial community regulator. Through comparative studies in French Guiana (endemic) and the southeastern United States (non-endemic), combined with experimental microcosm investigations, this research contributes to environmental pathogen ecology understanding. Environmental surveillance across 2,226 samples from French Guiana revealed complete MPM restriction to freshwater environments, with zero detections from 1,226 coastal …
Toward A Unified Network Flow Framework: From Conservation Principles To Fluid Dynamics Models, Zonghan Zhang
Toward A Unified Network Flow Framework: From Conservation Principles To Fluid Dynamics Models, Zonghan Zhang
Theses and Dissertations
Network flows govern a wide range of critical systems, from tangible infrastructures like transportation and power grids to replicable processes such as information spread and epidemics. While tangible flows obey conservation laws and physical constraints, replicable flows, like rumors or viruses, can grow, decay, or vanish unpredictably. Despite their increasing interaction in real-world settings, these flow types are typically modeled in isolation, using disconnected mathematical frameworks. This dissertation presents a unified modeling approach that bridges the gap between conserved and replicable flows by embedding principles from fluid dynamics into graph-based propagation models. I introduce physically informed extensions to classical models, …

A Review Of Cutaneous Viral Infections And Their Potential Role In Neurologic Diseases, Valeria Duque-Clavijo, Hung Q Doan, Stephen K Tyring
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Background: Cutaneous viral infections, defined as viral pathogens that either primarily affect the skin (e.g., herpesviruses, enteroviruses) or frequently produce dermatologic manifestations despite systemic tropism (e.g., HIV, SARS-CoV-2), can trigger systemic inflammatory and neurotropic responses that extend their impact to the nervous system. A growing body of evidence suggests that viruses with dermatologic manifestations may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of neurologic disorders.
Summary: Although individual viruses have been studied in isolation, the skin-brain axis in viral infections remains incompletely characterized. This review synthesizes existing knowledge and highlights gaps in understanding the mechanisms linking cutaneous viral infections to …
