Recent Russian aggression in Ukraine has reenergized military strategists and senior leaders to evaluate the role of strategic Landpower. American leadership in the European theater has mobilized allies and partners to reconsider force postures for responding to possible aggression against NATO members. Although Russian revisionist activity remains a threat in Europe, the challenges in the Pacific for strategic Landpower must also be considered. At the same time, the homeland, the Arctic, climate change, and the results of new and emerging technology also challenge the application of strategic Landpower. This publication serves as part of an enduring effort to evaluate strategic …

Sustainable Development For Mobile Health Apps Using The Human-Centered Design Process, Qingfan An, Marjorie M Kelley, Audra Hanners, Po-Yin Yen
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Well-documented scientific evidence indicates that mobile health (mHealth) apps can improve the quality of life, relieve symptoms, and restore health for patients. In addition to improving patients' health outcomes, mHealth apps reduce health care use and the cost burdens associated with disease management. Currently, patients and health care providers have a wide variety of choices among commercially available mHealth apps. However, due to the high resource costs and low user adoption of mHealth apps, the cost-benefit relationship remains controversial. When compared to traditional expert-driven approaches, applying human-centered design (HCD) may result in more useable, acceptable, and effective mHealth apps. In …

Acceptability, Appropriateness, And Feasibility Of Rural School Support Strategies For Behavioral Interventions: A Mixed Methods Evaluation Over Two Years Of A Hybrid Type 3 Implementation-Effectiveness Trial, Hannah G. Calvert, Michaela Mcquilkin, Ashley Havlicak, Teri Lewis, Lindsey Turner
Public and Population Health Faculty Publications and Presentations
Background: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework for implementing evidence-based interventions for preventing behavioral issues and improving climate in schools. The implementation of school-wide PBIS with fidelity is complex, requiring leadership commitment, teaming, and coordination of systems for tracking behaviors and consequences. Putting these components in place while ensuring alignment with the values and needs of the school community can be difficult for schools with fewer resources, such as rural schools. Implementation supports are needed, including strategies such as technical assistance, but it is unclear whether lower-cost modalities such as virtual support are acceptable, appropriate, and feasible …
An Implementation Of Combined Fecal/Gastric Occult Blood Testing In The Emergency Department, Desiree Long
An Implementation Of Combined Fecal/Gastric Occult Blood Testing In The Emergency Department, Desiree Long
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: The gastrointestinal occult blood test is a point-of-care (POC) test used to detect the presence of occult (hidden) gastrointestinal bleeding via stool or gastric contents. Existing fecal and gastric occult blood point-of-care (POC) testing requires separate and unique sampling cards and developer, respectively. Separate fecal/gastric tests are less definitive and take longer than a combined test. Fecal/gastric testing can be improved and more effective using a combined testing mechanism.
Context: This project includes the microsystem of the emergency department, which involves groups of medical professionals, such as groups of clinicians and staff working together with a shared clinical goal …

Enhancing Compliance Rates: The Impact Of Implementing A Bed Bath Bundle, Lizeth Rosales, Destinee Unabia, Dennisse Espinoza, Nicole Razi, Russell Hall
Master's Projects and Capstones
Abstract Problem: Bed baths are routine bedside procedures offered in hospitals to support patients'
cleanliness and promote comfort and overall well-being. This bedside procedure represents fundamental care provided by healthcare professionals. Ensuring proper bed bathing compliance in the healthcare setting of a medical-surgical observation and telemetry unit has been significantly challenging. After thorough monitoring of the unit, key factors contributing to low bed bath compliance include time constraints, staffing shortage, and barriers specific to patients and staff. The evidence-based interventions to improve bed bath compliance include a bed bath bundle emphasizing teamwork and effective communication, as identified through an extensive …

Master's Projects and Capstones
Abstract
Problem: Data obtained from the facility from February 2022 to July 2023 showed that there were a total of 110 falls at the facility with 51% resulting in injury. The facility also lacked a standardized fall assessment tool with minimal follow up after fall incidents.
Context: A microsystem assessment of the geriatric population at the long-term care facility indicated the need for a standardized fall risk screening tool to accurately assess patients.
Interventions: A staff presentation was created highlighting the high rate of falls at the facility as well as to educate on the implementation of the Morse Fall …

Faith & Learning Integration: Building Teacher Efficacy & Leader Capacity To Sustain The Christian Worldview, Ian W. Mighty
The Dissertation in Practice at Western University
Coherence needs to be achieved in how teachers in K-12 Schools approach the integration of faith and learning. To achieve coherence, Christian schools must enable students to reflect critically on how their faith is connected to their learning and prepare them to live godly lives in God's world. Teachers at Prairie Christian School display low efficacy for faith and learning integration when they baptize their lessons with prayer and reference scriptural passages, hoping their students will catch faith messages. Failing to dynamically and intentionally integrate faith and learning distorts the Christian worldview of students, evidenced by several research studies, school …
