Library Publications
This study analyzes the references cited in 34 chemistry dissertations and compares the results with an earlier study of citations in American Chemical Society journals. The dissertations cite more references and older references and a greater diversity of sources. They have the same tendency to heavily cite journal articles from a small core of traditional journals. This study underscores the value of comparing internal citation analyses with external citation analyses, and of analyzing the number of citing authors as well as the number of citations. Interlibrary loan and internal usage statistics were also used to inform collection development and library …

Atypical femur fractures (AFFs) are well-established serious complication of long-term bisphosphonate and denosumab therapy in patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis. To elucidate underlying mechanism(s) for the development of AFF, we performed a nested case-control study to investigate bone tissue nanomechanical properties and prevailing bone microstructure and tissue-level remodeling status as assessed by bone histomorphometry. We hypothesized that there would be differences in nanomechanical properties between patients with and without AFF and that bone microstructure and remodeling would be related to nanomechanical properties. Thirty-two full-thickness transiliac bone biopsies were obtained from age- and sex-matched patients on long-term bisphosphonate therapy with (n …

Nanotechnology is an exciting field that has a profitable outcome due to the increased applications of nanomaterials in many areas such as industry, agriculture, business, medicine and public health. Nanomedicine is a science that studies the application of nanotechnology in medicine. For diseases diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, control and prevention. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) possess the potential to be used in nanomedicine for cancer diagnosis and therapy due to their advantageous characteristics such as biocompatibility, photocatalytic activity and good optical and electronic properties. This review aims to introduce nanomedicine and nanomaterials and focus on the recent research interest toward TiO2 …
Dimension- And Context-Specific Expression Of Preschoolers’ Disruptive Behaviors Associated With Prenatal Tobacco Exposure, Suena H. Massey, Caron A.C. Clark, Michael Y. Sun, James L. Burns, Daniel K. Mroczek, Kimberly A. Espy, Lauren S. Wakschlag

Objective—Precise phenotypic characterization of prenatal tobacco exposure (PTE) −related disruptive behavior (DB) that integrates nuanced measures of both exposures and outcomes is optimal for elucidating underlying mechanisms. Using this approach, our goals were to identify dimensions of DB most sensitive to PTE prior to school entry and assess contextual variation in these dimensions.
Methods—A community obstetric sample of N=369 women (79.2% lifetime smokers; 70.2% pregnancy smokers) from two Midwestern cities were assessed for PTE using cotinine-calibrated interview-based reports at 16, 28, and 40 weeks of gestation. A subset of n=244 who completed observational assessments with their …
