Age:Rage Signaling Pathway As A Target In Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer, De'marcus Deon Woolfork Jan 2021

Age:Rage Signaling Pathway As A Target In Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer, De'marcus Deon Woolfork

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Prostate cancer, a disease of aging, is the second leading cause of male cancer deaths in the United States and is canonically controlled by androgen expression which is treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) that suppress androgen production, androgen receptor function, or both. The androgen receptor (AR) plays a critical role in cancer development, progression, and therapy response. Recurring cancer cells undergo cellular reprogramming, adopting alternative mechanisms of survival, entering an androgen receptor-independent state, and are then subcategorized as Castration Resistant Prostate Cancers (CRPC). A process known as neuroendocrine differentiation, has been shown to be upregulated in response to ADT. …

The Impact Of U.S. Refugee Policy Change & Political Rhetoric On Nonprofit Service Providers’ Emotional Well-Being, Maria V. Wathen, Patrick L.F. Decker, Charity N. Weishar

Social Work: School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Other Works

This study examines how U.S. refugee policy changes from 2014 to 2018 affected the emotional well-being of nonprofit service providers. Elements identified by participants as emotionally significant were funding cuts, the “bans”, the unpredictable nature of policy change, and most impactful, negative political rhetoric. Emotional wellbeing was negatively affected and included an increase in stress, anger, sadness, despair, depression, helplessness, frustration, and caution. Negative impacts were also felt with regard to professional identities and to relationships with family, friends, and strangers. Importantly, impact on emotional wellbeing differed by level of organization at which the participant worked and by organizational characteristics.

The Occupational Depression Inventory—A Solution For Estimating The Prevalence Of Job-Related Distress, Renzo Bianchi, Irvin Sam Schonfeld

Publications and Research

We are concerned about researchers’ reliance on the burnout construct and the MBI-GS to estimate the prevalence of job-related distress. In this paper, we first describe some of the problems plaguing the burnout construct and its measures. Then, we present the Occupational Depression Inventory, a new instrument designed to help occupational health specialists get a clearer view of the mental health status of the workforce (Bianchi and Schonfeld, 2020).

Workplace Transparency Beyond Disclosure: What's Blocking The View?, Lisa J. Bernt Jan 2021

Workplace Transparency Beyond Disclosure: What's Blocking The View?, Lisa J. Bernt

Marquette Law Review

Recent developments have exacerbated informational asymmetry between

employers and workers. Employers increasingly use “black box” automateddecision

systems, such as machine learning processes where algorithms are

used in recruitment and hiring. They have technological tools that enable

intense monitoring of workers. Contemporary work relationships have

changed, with trends toward remote and scattered worksites. Employees are

more frequently bound by nondisclosure agreements, non-disparagement

provisions, and mandatory arbitration agreements. These developments have

made it more difficult for workers to communicate with each other and to act

collectively.

Focus On Outcomes: Fostering Systemic Departmental Improvements, Daniel L. Reinholz, Mary E. Pilgrim, Amelia Stone-Johnson, Karen Falkenburg, Christopher Geanious, Courtney Ngai, Joel Christopher Corbo, Sarah B. Wise

To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development

This article describes how a focus on outcomes can be a tool for guiding systemic change. By focusing on positive outcomes to be achieved, a group can guide its collective efforts toward an ideal future rather than becoming fixated on individual problems to solve. While there is support for an outcome-guided approach in the literature on individual and organizational change, this approach has not been used extensively to support department-level changes in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.

The Benefits Of Evidence Based Practices In Public Administration: Does Therapeutic Listening Training Increase Emotional Intelligence To Affect Change Management Outcomes In Public And Private Sector Organizations, John Sillup

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

Abstract

This doctoral dissertation considers change management as it relates directly to evidence-based practices in public administration. The problem under study was the lack of scholarly research on the effect of an administrative leader’s emotional intelligence (EI) has on follower self-efficacy during change management. This study provided findings on the effect of therapeutic listening training as a means to increase emotional intelligence to potentially affect change management outcomes in public and private sector organizations. Change management is a systematic and structured process of developing and implementing strategies and interventions for organizations transitioning from current state to a desired state. The …

Black Men Can: Change The Narrative Of Black Male Students, Levi Tucker Ii Jan 2021

Black Men Can: Change The Narrative Of Black Male Students, Levi Tucker Ii

West Chester University Master’s Theses

The master narrative about Black male students has impacted their experience in the education system from the early elementary level through undergraduate studies. This narrative was birthed out of the same racial attitudes that deemed the Black community inferior in every aspect of society. The idea that Black men are academically inferior is backed by research that focuses on Black men who are failing to graduate from college. This type of research and reporting perpetuates the idea that Black men can’t be successful at anything outside of athletics and entertainment and if they are not good at that they are …

Lessons From The Pivot: Higher Education's Response To The Pandemic, Janine S. Davis, Christy Irish

Education Faculty Articles

The intensity of major events often leads us to remember minute details of where we were and what we were doing when they occurred: what we wore as we watched the towers fall on September 11, 2001; the faces of our classmates when the space shuttle Challenger exploded on January 28, 1986; the smell in the air when we lived through a major earthquake, fire, or other personal tragedy. Similarly, faculty, staff, and students will remember the series of moments that led to the closure of their schools and universities as the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout the world--the timeline …

Profit Or Safety: Where Is Outer Space Headed?, Paul B. Larsen Jan 2021

Profit Or Safety: Where Is Outer Space Headed?, Paul B. Larsen

Journal of Air Law and Commerce

The space powers (the U.S., the European Space Agency (ESA), China, and Russia) are now preparing national space traffic regimes with insufficient regard for the Outer Space Treaty’s (OST) agreed “Principles Governing the Activities of States in Exploration and Use of Outer Space.” The rapidly growing traffic of satellites, resulting in space debris, and the scarcity of radio frequencies and related orbits create obvious dangerous situations. States, including the U.S., agreed in the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS) on twenty-one Guidelines for Long-Term Sustainability of Space, some of which relate to space traffic management …

Production Line Process Improvement With Process Reengineering - A Case Study In Garment Factory, Yanin Palasri

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The production process concerns in ABC manufacturing are failing to meet daily production targets and having low productivities. Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is a method of employing process redesign heuristics to improve an existing production line process using an evaluation approach and fit-gap analysis. A simulation tool is used to model the production process redesign. After adopting the provided approach and conducting the simulation, the company's production productivity and service level increases by about 45 percent. To get the required simulation results, critical measurements such as manufacturing capacity and lead time are used. This research demonstrates the redesign production process …

Who Wants To Be A Prosecutor? And Why Care? Law Students’ Career Aspirations And Reform Prosecutors’ Goals, Shih-Chun Steven Chien, Stephen Daniels

Law Faculty Articles and Essays

Often called “progressive” or “reform” prosecutors, a number of reform-minded prosecutors have been elected recently across the United States—promising a distinctive vision of criminal justice and signaling that their role will be more attuned to issues of race and equity than “law and order.” Furthering this vision requires dramatic changes to the working cultures—the norms, practices, and even personnel—of their offices. Diversity plays a major role.

One central challenge is identifying, attracting, and hiring newly-minted lawyers who can, over time, be socialized into and sustain a changing organizational culture. This article empirically examines that challenge, which involves two sides of …

Concurrently there have been expectations grown from the employers to introduce effective programs or services to support employees so that an expected amount of productivity is maintained while also maintaining a sense of care for their employees. Some of the strategies suggested in the literature include flexible scheduling, leadership communication, …

To Burn Or Bury? That Is The Question : The Late Bronze Age And Iron Age In Northern Europe, Petra N. Peretin Jan 2021

To Burn Or Bury? That Is The Question : The Late Bronze Age And Iron Age In Northern Europe, Petra N. Peretin

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Changes in social organization can be studied through several different avenues one ofwhich is through mortuary patterns. Here we will be looking at changes in social organization during the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age in Northern Europe using mortuary and osteological data. If we study how each community interacts, mourns, stores, transports, and buries their dead then we can learn about the underlying mechanisms that transform and maintain a society, and gain insight into the societal and economical shifts of the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age in this region. These changes will be determined by analyzing the distribution …
