Correlating Sentiment In Reddit’S Wallstreetbets With The Stock Market Using Machine Learning Techniques, Sultan Ali Alzaabi
Correlating Sentiment In Reddit’S Wallstreetbets With The Stock Market Using Machine Learning Techniques, Sultan Ali Alzaabi
Theses
The issue that this study addresses is to observe whether there exists a statistical relation between the stock market and Reddit’s wallstreetbets. Previous research mainly focused on the relation between the stock market and Twitter. To gather data for the study, comments were scrapped from the subreddit wallstreetbets for a period of four months, Jan 1, 2021, till April 30, 2021. Different sentiment classifiers were, then, applied on a sample of the data to observe the most accurate classifier for the study. The study concluded that the most accurate sentiment classifier was an SVM classifier trained on 80% of Reddit …
“Living Document”: From Documents To Documentality, From Mimesis To Performative Indexicality, Ronald E. Day
“Living Document”: From Documents To Documentality, From Mimesis To Performative Indexicality, Ronald E. Day
Proceedings from the Document Academy
In this article, in distinction to documentation as an epistemic understanding of documents, I will discuss the epistemology of documentality as an indexical theory of documental functions, which I will develop through Bruno Latour’s notion of information. This notion of indexicality is different than Suzanne Briet’s notion of indexicality (which I have discussed elsewhere (Briet, 2006)).
I will begin this paper with an historical problem that illustrates the issues of viewing documents as content representation. This is the problem identified by Vincent Debaene (Debaene, 2014) in early and mid-twentieth century French field anthropology of the “two book” phenomenon, which attempted …

Documentation Influence In Brazilian Library And Information Science: The Case Of University Of São Paulo, Luciana Corts Mendes
Proceedings from the Document Academy
Johanna W. Smit studied under Jean Meyriat and Jean-Claude Gardin in France, and upon becoming a professor at the Library Science and Documentation Department of the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, introduced to it the then current developments in French Documentation, mainly those related to documentary analysis. In 1986, Professor Smit and a group of professors of USP founded TEMMA Group, a research group devoted to issues concerning document organisation and representation, which lasted for 30 years and incorporated professors of São Paulo State University. In this paper, I present to a …
Emergence: Documents In Crisis, Wayne De Fremery
Emergence: Documents In Crisis, Wayne De Fremery
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This essay suggests the etymologies of emergence, emergency, and crisis create a useful framework for theorizing documents. Indeed, the overlapping semantic associations of the words allow for the idea that documents emerge in crisis. The semantic overlap also allows a means for theorizing how documents descend into crisis. Theorizing documents in crisis, the essay argues, usefully complements documentalist theories of documentary representation suggested by thinkers like Paul Otlet and Suzanne Briet, as well newer conceptualizations of documentality as conceived by Michael Buckland and Maurizio Ferraris and documentarity as described by Ronald Day.
Bringing Political Upheaval And Cultural Trauma Into Order: A Document-Theoretical Approach To The Social Significance Of Bibliographic Classification Systems, Joacim Hansson
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This paper explores the ability to define bibliographic classification systems as socially significant documents in a way that goes beyond their immediate function in the information retrieval process. It does so in dialog with theory on documents and documentality, and knowledge organization theory. Two examples show how development of new classification systems address social and cultural structures in periods of rapid social and cultural change and crisis. The first example discusses the design of a classification system for Swedish public libraries in the late 1910s, and the second addresses the re-formulation of the Holocaust experience in American Jewish library classification …

Empathy As A Moderator Of Preservice Teachers’ Culturally Responsive Teaching Self-Efficacy And Outcome Expectancy Beliefs, Juta Tammachart
Dissertations
The main purpose of this research was to examine the relationship model between culturally responsive teaching self-efficacy (CRTSE) and culturally responsive teaching outcome expectancy beliefs (CRTOE) in Thailand. There were two research questions outlined in the study: what is the relationship between preservice teachers’ CRTSE and CRTOE? Also, does the culturally responsive teaching teacher empathy (CRTTE) moderate the relationship of preservice teachers’ CRTSE and CRTOE?
Based on the CRT standards by Siwatu (2005), there were three measures applied in the study: CRTSE, CRTOE, and CRTTE scales. These instruments were piloted with 536 preservice teachers in the Faculty of Education, Prince …
A Language Analysis Of The London, Harrow Obituary From 1940 To 1950, Michaela Rappleyea
A Language Analysis Of The London, Harrow Obituary From 1940 To 1950, Michaela Rappleyea
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This thesis is an analysis of the vocabulary and phrases used in obituaries written in London during World War II and in the first five years following the war. During the war, both the length and content of the obituaries was significantly different, as the subjects and manner of death during those years was also significantly different. During the post-war years, the subjects and content followed a lengthier format and were generally for older community members who died of natural causes. This change in structure was affected by the nature and frequency of death. The tone of the writing was …

I am interested in the way metaphors efface the terms of their comparison and what utility COVID-19 has when positioned within a metaphor. In Lacanian psychoanalysis, metaphors touch the subject, symbolized by the plus sign (+) or the crossing of the signifier into the signified. In the fall of 2019, I presented a performance in which three participants strategically shared saliva, nasal, ear, and vaginal swabs to therapeutically address my chronic illness. Currently in 2021, our conceptions of bodily sharing revolve around the extreme contagiousness of COVID-19. There is a demand to visualize this contagion as if “respiratory droplets” were …
Satirizing Empire: Comparing Ancient China And Rome, Di Wang
Satirizing Empire: Comparing Ancient China And Rome, Di Wang
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Comparative scholars of the ancient Mediterranean and East Asian worlds have recently taken a serious interest in the unprecedented and simultaneous emergence of two classical empires: Rome and China. The trend, invigorated by the contemporary geopolitical development of China’s rise as a world empire challenging the post-World War II Western hegemony, has yielded new insights into the many divergences and convergences of the world’s two most enduring political and cultural systems. However, preoccupied with describing the political, cultural institutions and grand narratives of empire, scholarship has largely ignored the detractors of empire, whose ingenious expressions are as enduring as these …

World Changers: Social Justice At The Heart Of Middle School Language Arts Curriculum, Mackenzie Mcclain
Honors Theses
English classrooms, at their best, are safe places for adolescents to critically engage with difficult issues presented in novels and the real world. One such issue is human trafficking, which is expected to soon become the world’s most profitable criminal industry (Knudsen, 2015). Incorporating values and instructional approaches from social justice pedagogy, I have designed a sixth-grade language arts unit plan about human trafficking based upon Francesco D’Adamo’s novel, Iqbal (2003). My purpose was to create resources, such as standards-based learning objectives, text sets, lesson plans, and student projects to use in my own classroom, as well as for teachers …

Employee Churn Prediction Using Logistic Regression And Support Vector Machine, Rajendra Maharjan
Master's Projects
It is a challenge for Human Resource (HR) team to retain their existing employees than to hire a new one. For any company, losing their valuable employees is a loss in terms of time, money, productivity, and trust, etc. This loss could be possibly minimized if HR could beforehand find out their potential employees who are planning to quit their job hence, we investigated solving the employee churn problem through the machine learning perspective. We have designed machine learning models using supervised and classification-based algorithms like Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The models are trained with the IBM …

Rethinking The Rhetorical Dimensions Of Public Refusals, Tyler Stafford
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
In this dissertation on rethinking the rhetorical dimensions of public refusals, I attempt to enhance the heuristic value of compositionist John Schilb’s neglected but promising concept of rhetorical refusal with (1) an amplification of his higher principle criterion using rhetorical studies of decorum and (2) the scholarly deployment of strategic silence, journalism ethics, controversy and melodrama, irony, and prophetic rhetoric. In so doing, I (1) endeavor to inspire cross-disciplinary dialogue between those who study rhetoric in communication departments and those who study rhetoric in English departments; (2) demonstrate analyses of rhetorical refusals that take us beyond the cases explored in …

Perhaps in the research, we are trying hard to study the argumentative narrative phrase in the poetic image, and to show the extent of the effectiveness of the pilgrims in narration, due to the absence of addressing this axis in most pilgrimage studies, which is its ability to prove that the poetic discourse possesses an argumentative characteristic that distinguishes it from the rest of the literary races by entering the world of the recipient and the influence In it and his conviction of the usefulness of his message while adopting the condensation, suggestion and symbolism, formative elements codify the dimensions …

This research reviews famous stories in the emerging of grammar so that we can detect the mystery that surrounds that emerging. It seemed that the need of the foreigners to adapt and seize opportunities in the new culture is what led them to try to learn and master the language. They had tremendous efforts in the establishment of Arabic grammar, forcing those who wanted to enter the field of this science to follow the rules on which Arabic syntax was built. Being skilled in Arabic linguistics had been in demand in order to gain opportunities to obtain state jobs and …

A Contrastive Study Of Affixation In English And Kurdish, Hilbeen Bahjat Anwar
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The present study is an investigation of affixation in English and Kurdish. It conducts a contrastive study of affixation in English and Northeren Kurmanji Kurdish with the aim of finding the similarities and differences between them. After describing and comparing affixation in both languages, the final finding of the study is that affixation is a common process in English which is done by using different types of affixes. Kurdish is concerned with different types of bound morphemes without paying attention to the process of affixation and the created words from affixes though both languages have the same ways of classifying …

“Africa Of The Heart”: The African Experience In Derek Walcott's Omeros, Hussein Kadhum Challab
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Derek Walcott's book-length poem Omeros won critical acclaim soon after its publication in 1990. In this poem, the world of the Caribbean is linked with that of Homer by recalling the dramas of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey in a Caribbean setting. Africa is heavily featured in Omeros as most of the major characters of the poem who in one way or another go through the African experience. 'Return to Africa' is a recurrent theme in Derek Walcott's works. However, this kind of return is not for the sole purpose of finding their old lost homeland, but rather for establishing roots …
