Collaboration Enhances Utilization Of Production Factors In Container Shipping Industry, Rong-Her Chiu, Dong-Hua Wang Apr 2019

Collaboration Enhances Utilization Of Production Factors In Container Shipping Industry, Rong-Her Chiu, Dong-Hua Wang

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

This study investigates both theoretically and empirically the economic impact of collaborative operation between container carriers. Using the property of superadditivity of the Leontief production function, this study aims to demonstrate that the utilization rate of production factors will improve when liner carriers collaboratively provide services through a strategic alliance. Two production factors, containership slot utilization (CSU) and container circulation velocity (CCV), are used to empirically prove the existence of the efficiency improvement effect after 2000 (since 2000, strategic alliances have become a formal collaborative mechanism and have been restructured continuously)

Action Research: A Review And Proposal For Application In Marketing Inquiry, Sereikhuoch Eng, Nikhilesh Dholakia

The Qualitative Report

Action research has a very limited track record in marketing. We take an applied and practical approach and begin with a review of action research as a method, then turn to a more focused review of action research in marketing contexts, discussing the plausible constraints and advantages. Based on these reviews, we offer a conceptual framework and several application areas for marketing action research. We summarize case study examples from three market locations that have used action research as a method of inquiry to illustrate and encourage researchers and practitioners to further integrate action research in their research endeavors. We …

Using The Consolidated Framework For Implementation Research To Investigate Daily Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Df) Implementation Via Community-Based Hiv Testing Sites In Florida, Deanne E. Turner

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Background: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily pill that can reduce a person’s chances of acquiring HIV. HIV testing and counseling is a critical point during which non-clinical staff could intervene, discuss and/or refer clients for PrEP. However, not all HIV testing/counseling staff take part in PrEP implementation in the same way. This study investigated: 1) the underlying PrEP implementation subgroups of staff who perform HIV testing and 2) PrEP implementation as a function of key constructs from the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR).

Methods: This study was a mixed methods concurrent triangulation design, in which qualitative and quantitative …

Observing Change In The Present Moment: Lessons From Zen Leaders And Teachers, Jody Condit Fagan Apr 2019

Observing Change In The Present Moment: Lessons From Zen Leaders And Teachers, Jody Condit Fagan

#LEADCC: Leading Change Conference

Zen philosophy concerns the nature of reality, which is constant change. Yet, no research exists concerning the application of Zen to leadership in a modern, secular organization. In this exploratory study, seven sources authored by Zen leaders were analyzed for content related to leadership and change. The leadership findings were framed in terms of Bass and Riggio’s transformational leadership model. While the approach of Zen leaders largely aligns with transformational leadership, several discrepancies were revealed. References to change most commonly involved the concepts Self/No-Self, Perception, Permanence/Impermanence, Attachment/Non-Attachment, Time, Knowledge, Calmness/Excitement, Concentration/Observation, Independence/Interdependence, Leadership, and Movement. Future research is recommended to …

Cooperation In Community Colleges, Frederic S. Gore Apr 2019

Cooperation In Community Colleges, Frederic S. Gore

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

With the mounting pressures on institutions of higher education to do more with limited resources, the opportunity to collaborate with other colleges has emerged as a viable tool to create efficiencies and obtain valuable knowledge otherwise unattainable by an institution, even if that collaboration takes place with a competing institution. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are critical to managing student information and college operations, but can be challenging for colleges to implement. Consortia present a unique solution to colleges to address gaps in their expertise and skills needed to achieve a successful ERP implementation. This study explores the factors that …

Cognitivism In School Psychologists’ Talk About Cultural Responsiveness: A Critical Discourse Analysis, Sujay Sabnis Apr 2019

Cognitivism In School Psychologists’ Talk About Cultural Responsiveness: A Critical Discourse Analysis, Sujay Sabnis

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Although there is an increase in publications on the topic of cultural responsiveness in school psychology, the research literature does not interrogate the discourse around cultural responsiveness and the modes of practices it enables. Using a preexisting dataset featuring interviews with 15 school psychologists, I analyzed the discursive formations characterizing the talk about cultural responsiveness. Data analysis using the critical discursive psychology framework illuminated the presence of cognitivism in participant talk. Critical discourse analysis drawing on Foucauldian theory of power effects revealed the ways in which cognitivism both enabled and constrained the discursive production of ‘culture’ and ‘cultural responsiveness’. Culture …

Incivility And Beyond At The Top Management Team Level, Joanne O. Martinez, Julia Eisenberg

Organization Management Journal

Although incivility has been gaining increasing attention in the literature as well as in the industry, academic studies have not examined the effects on top management team (TMT) members. TMT members are different from employees at other levels because they are officers of their organizations who are held to a much higher level of responsibility than those in lower echelons. They are crucial in setting the norms of an organization and have far-reaching influence. This article seeks to uncover the mechanisms that explain what happens when TMT members are targets of uncivil leadership behavior. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 15 …

In this article, the authors trace the development of fake news and its impact on contemporary political discourse. They also outline cutting-edge pedagogies designed to assist students in critically evaluating the veracity of various news sources and social media sites.

The Underutilized Tool Of Project Management - Emotional Intelligence, Gerald C. Lowe Apr 2019

The Underutilized Tool Of Project Management - Emotional Intelligence, Gerald C. Lowe

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Previous research has typically focused on singular attributes that impact a leader’s effectiveness. This study, instead, looks at whether emotional intelligence moderates the anticipated negative effect of distributed presence on engagement and influence, and ultimately, leader effectiveness. Buttressed by emotional intelligence, engagement, and influence theories, the research question focused on how emotional intelligence skills moderate the impact of a project manager’s distributed presence to render the leader effective. The study sample for this research came from voluntary participants who work for a U.S. government agency comprising leaders co-located with their teams and distributed presence leaders. Descriptive statistics showed that leaders …

Governance And Development: A Comparative Economic Organization Approach, Murali Patibandla Apr 2019

Governance And Development: A Comparative Economic Organization Approach, Murali Patibandla

Working Papers

Governance of economic and political activities both by private and public institutions is an important source of economic development apart from the conventional sources such as technological progress, capital accumulation and endowment of resources of a nation. China and India are the two largest emerging economies with different governance mechanisms of political communism, democracy and capitalism. China has been able to achieve extraordinary economic growth rates since 1980 under communism while India’s growth has been under complex democratic institutions. This paper develops a simple theoretical framework of comparative governance and applies it qualitatively to China briefly and India in detail.
