The Role Of School Leadership In Teacher Retention In Title 1 Schools, Latonya Wright Bolden
The Role Of School Leadership In Teacher Retention In Title 1 Schools, Latonya Wright Bolden
All Theses And Dissertations
The aim of this qualitative study was to examine the ways in which teachers’ perceptions of school leadership, particularly principals, impact the attrition and the retention of highly qualified educators. The focus of this study was the analysis of teachers’ views of the various philosophies of leadership and how the practices which stem from those philosophies affect the efficacy of the teachers. Because of the correlation between teacher retention and leadership styles, the behavioral leadership model of principals developed by Urick and Bowers (2014) was used as a conceptual framework for the study.
The findings of this research indicated that …

That Could Have Been Me: Director Deaths, Mortality Salience And Ceo Prosocial Behavior, Guoli Chen, Craig Crossland, Sterling Huang
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
Mortality salience—the awareness of the inevitability of death—is often traumatic. However, it can also be associated with a range of positive, self-transcendent cognitive responses, such as a greater desire to help others, contribute to society, and make a more meaningful contribution in one’s life and career. In this study, we provide evidence of a link between chief executive officer (CEO) mortality salience—triggered by the death of a director at the same firm—and a subsequent increase in firm-level prosocial behavior or corporate social responsibility (CSR). We further show that this core relationship is amplified in situations where the death of the …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The paper presents librarians’ attitudes toward information technology, their level of knowledge in IT, and their relationship with each other. Secondary data was collected through review of the relevant literature. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire survey of 244 librarians of libraries in Pakistan. The study revealed that awareness of the potential of IT, recency of attaining professional qualifications, and knowledge in IT had a significant relationship with librarians’ attitudes. The study also revealed that librarians’ level of knowledge in technology is a good predictor of their attitude toward application of information technology in libraries. Based on the findings, …
Simplifying The Collections Budget To Maximize Flexibility And Increase Responsiveness To User Needs, Denise Koufogiannakis, Denise Pan
Simplifying The Collections Budget To Maximize Flexibility And Increase Responsiveness To User Needs, Denise Koufogiannakis, Denise Pan
Charleston Library Conference
This paper considers management of the collections budget via fund structures. A common approach in collections budget management is to distribute allocations via format (e.g., monograph and serials), and subject areas. While tracking spending at a granular level provides more information, it also generally results in a large number of funds. As more and more materials are purchased in consortial packages or other types of "big deals,” or are simply interdisciplinary in nature, the allocation and expenditure on specific and narrowly defined funds begins to become inaccurate and less useful. Library administrators from two large Association of Research Libraries (ARL) …

Threat Recognition In Incumbent Firms: A Case For Organizational Velocity, Alan Amling
Threat Recognition In Incumbent Firms: A Case For Organizational Velocity, Alan Amling
PhD in Business Administration Dissertations
Change is not new, but the speed of change is new. Fueled by a combination of connecting and thinking technologies, the business environment is becoming increasingly dynamic and uncertain. Incumbent firms face a wider variety of threats that vary in frequency of occurrence and financial impact. How effectively firms see these threats, internalize them as important (or not) and act on them in a timely manner (or not) can be critical to their survival. However, the academic literature is incomplete on how firms navigate this threat recognition process from initial observation through action and across different organizational contexts.

Students' Perceptions On Alternative Break Experiences And Selecting An Academic Major In A Four-Year College, Bianny Fernández Collado
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Research shows that 50-80% of college students are exploratory/undecided or appear as declared and will change their major at least once. Although higher education institutions have developed and implemented several initiatives to assist students with selecting an academic major, students are struggling to reach this milestone. According to Gebhard (2015), real-world and experiential opportunities successfully prepare students to select an academic major. Thus, the purpose of this qualitative exploratory study is to describe in-depth a phenomenon: how a service-based experience, offered through an Alternative Breaks (aB) program may prepare student participants for the selection of an academic major. The study …

No Sunday Business': Navigating Religious Rules And Business Opportunities In The Shipyard Mennonite Settlement, Belize, Carel Roessing, Daniëlle Bovenberg
No Sunday Business': Navigating Religious Rules And Business Opportunities In The Shipyard Mennonite Settlement, Belize, Carel Roessing, Daniëlle Bovenberg
Journal of Amish and Plain Anabaptist Studies
Within the Old Colony Mennonite settlements of Belize, the relationship between religious and economic practices entails a constant navigation of the acceptable, where threats of worldliness come from technology and from contact with outsiders. This paper takes as its focus the business of a butcher in Shipyard settlement, whose daily work testifies to a navigation of both of these potential threats. This entrepreneur uses technologies of energy, transportation, and communication—operated in part by an outside worker—to extend the radius of his meat business. The tense environment of Shipyard’s religious diversity frames our discussion of these observations, leading us to reconsider …

Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
The literature on planned organizational change contains numerous theories and models proposed and many references to success and failure rates and factors. This study provided a meta-ethnographic synthesis of 298 articles reporting qualitative case studies of planned organizational change …

Does Negativity Counterpoint Positivity, Or The Other Way Round? On Positive Organizational Scholarship, Aldona Glińska-Neweś, Beata Glinka
European Management Studies
Management science and organization theory is thriving, as evidenced by thousands of popular and academic publications exploring the subject, as well as a great number of conferences held in recent years. Every year new (and fashionable) concepts and theories are created and POS (Positive Organizational Scholarship) is among the most popular ones. Despite the advancement of the discipline, its current condition is criticised and considered disappointing This dissatisfaction stems from frustration caused by conflicting expectations of the community, i.e. business and other stakeholders, and of researchers themselves, and the impossibility of satisfying these demands. Failure to fulfil contradictory expectations generates …
Witnessing At Work When It's Taboo To Talk About Religion, Michael E. Cafferky
Witnessing At Work When It's Taboo To Talk About Religion, Michael E. Cafferky
Faculty Works
This article explores an alternative to traditional approaches to evangelism in the workplace. it presents an approach based on using the language of business alone in conversations with coworkers, suppliers and customers. While it is often taboo to talk about religion in secular organizations, opportunities exist for believers to be not just silent witnesses but rather explicit verbal witnesses to Jesus Christ. Business conversations naturally present opportunities to champion the theological identity and character traits of Jesus Christ without mentioning his name.
