Background/aim: Pyogenic granuloma (PG)-like nodular Kaposi?s sarcoma (KS) has been previously demonstrated in several studies. However, to the best of our knowledge, no original study investigating the dermoscopic differential diagnosis of PG and KS exists in the relevant literature. In this study we aimed to identify dermoscopic findings providing useful clues to differential diagnosis between the two entities.Materials and methods: Patients with histopathologically confirmed PG or nodular KS were included in the study. Demographic, clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings of the cases were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The most common finding observed in PG was red structureless areas (80.00%), followed by …

Background/aim: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation. The study aimed to assess serum 14-3-3eta, anti-CarP, and anti-Sa in seronegative RA (SNRA) patients who were treatment-naïve as well as in healthy subjects. This is the first study in the literature to examine these autoantibodies together in SNRA patients. Materials and methods: Forty-five treatment-naïve SNRA patients and 45 healthy subjects were recruited. Drugs change the levels of autoantibodies; therefore, patients who took any medication had been excluded from our study. Anti-carbamylated protein, anti-Sa, and 14-3-3eta were measured by using three different ELISA kits. Results: Median serum concentration of …

Background/aim: Surgical treatment of distal intraarticular radius fractures remains controversial. Our aim was to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes between volar plating (VP) and external fixation (EF) for distal intraarticular radius fractures two years postoperatively. Materials and methods: This retrospective study included 59 patients with 62 intraarticular AO Type C distal radius fractures. We distinguished two groups: patients treated with internal fixation (volar locking plate, VP group: 41 fractures), and patients treated with an external fixator and K-wires (EF group: 21 fractures). The clinical assessment included range of motion, grip strength, disability of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH), …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Raynaud?s phenomenon (RP) is not a rare health problem; global prevalence is about 3%?20%. Etiology and pathophysiology of this pathology has not been clarified. There are many precipitating factors resulting in RP. Hyperhomocysteinemia resulting from methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene mutationmay have a role in its etiology. The aim of this study was to observe the frequency of RP in patients with MTFHR gene mutation and hyperhomocysteinemia. Possible relationships among vitamin B12, folic acid, complete blood count (leukocytes and platelets), and c-reactive protein levels and RP were also analyzed. Materials and methods: A total of 388 patients admitted to the …
