Neospora caninum is a major, cosmopolitan, protozoan parasite associated with abortion in cattle and water buffaloes. In this study, real-time PCR was used for the detection and quantification of the burden of N. caninum infections in aborted fetuses in the Middle Black Sea Region and Sivas Province of Turkey. In total, N. caninum DNA was detected in 44 of the 89 (49.4%) aborted fetuses of the cattle and water buffalo from 89 different farms. Abdominal ultrasound is frequently performed as part of initial staging of canine mammary tumors. The aims of this study were to describe abdominal ultrasonographic findings present at diagnosis of mammary tumors in dogs and to assess their value for associations with histopathological results and treatment outcome. The medical records of 201 female dogs diagnosed with mammary tumors that had abdominal ultrasonography performed as part of their initial clinical evaluation were reviewed. Histopathological diagnosis of malignant mammary tumors was obtained in most cases (86%; 172 cases). One hundred and fifty-seven animals (78%) had some ultrasonographic abnormality. Prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) parasites and the effect of associated factors were evaluated in household dogs from an urban area of Córdoba, Argentina. A total of 493 fecal samples were collected during 2010 and 2013 and processed with Willis` salt, Sheathers sugar flotation, and formol-ether concentration techniques. Overall prevalence of GI parasites was 45.23% (95% CI 40.83-49.62), and Ancylostoma caninum (30.83%) was the most frequent parasite, followed by Trichuris vulpis (9.94%), Cystoisospora spp. (7.71%), Toxocara canis (6.90%), and Giardia spp. (5.88%). Pretreatment of sperm for oxidative and antioxidative analysis has been shown to be different in studies. These differences can affect the result of analyses. The aim of this study was to compare the analyses of sperm homogenization methods. The semen of four rams were used in the study. Pretreatment procedures included the rotary, bead, and ultrasonic homogenization methods. Oxidative and antioxidative status of sperm samples was assessed by measuring serum lipid hydroperoxide, total oxidant status, free sulfhydryl groups (SH total thiol), ceruloplasmin, and total antioxidant capacity levels. The monitoring of Culicidae through faunistic data is important to identify potential vector species of disease and therefore acts as an early warning system. The Balkans have a diverse mosquito fauna that can be an important gateway of potential vector species to Europe, because of the abundance of larval habitats and favorable climatic conditions. Here we present four new records of Culicidae: Aedes (Ochlerotatus) annulipes (Meigen, 1830), Aedes (Ochlerotatus) cantans (Meigen, 1818) for Albania, and Aedes (Ochlerotatus) punctor (Kirby, 1837) for Albania and Serbia. Disturbance is an important factor affecting community composition and biodiversity in natural ecosystems. The Ventania hill system in central Argentina presents several ecosystem disturbances. Spiders are good candidates for studies related to human impact and conservation, as they can be good biological indicators of certain ecosystems. Therefore, we tried to elucidate if the abundance and spatial distribution of the mygalomorph spider Acanthogonatus centralis (Nemesiidae) are affected by different degrees of disturbance in these hilly grasslands. In the present study, scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the ultrastructure of sensilla present on the antennae of male and female Zygogramma bicolorata. The antennae in this insect consist of the scape, pedicel, and nine flagellomeres. Six types of sensilla were identified: sensilla trichodea type 1 and 2 (ST1, ST2), sensilla cavitae (SCa), sensilla chaetica (SCh), and sensilla basiconica type 1 and 2 (SB1, SB2). The purpose of this study was to determine the histological structure of the kidney of Pelophylax bedriagae and the distribution of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the kidney tissue. The kidneys of P. bedriagae are long, brown, ribbon-like structures covered with connective tissue. Nephrons, the functional units of the kidney, consist of the renal corpuscle, proximal and distal tubules, collecting tubule, and collecting duct. The renal corpuscle is composed of the glomerulus and Bowman?s capsule. There is no structure similar to Henle?s loop, which is found in higher vertebrates. In this study, water quality parameters and zooplankton fauna were investigated from 14 different water wells in Yayladağı District of Hatay Province. The study was conducted seasonally between October 2015 and July 2016. A total of 51 species were identified, including 30 species of rotifers, 9 species of cladocerans, and 12 species of copepods. The most abundant species, Keratella cochlearis, Bosmina longirostris, and Tropocyclops prasinus, were found in 11, 13, and 12 wells, respectively. Background/aim: High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) has become the standard approach for patients with relapsed/refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). In this study, we report the outcome of the mitoxantrone-melphalan conditioning regimen for lymphoma. Materials and methods: The study group included 53 patients who were relapsed/refractory HL (n = 14) and NHL (n = 39) and received mitoxantrone and melphalan followed by ASCT. The transplant regimen consisted of mitoxantrone (60 mg/m2) and melphalan (180 mg/m2) followed by peripheral blood stem cell infusion (PBSC). Background/aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of salbutamol delivered to children by jet nebulizer (JN) and mesh nebulizer (MN). Materials and methods: Children admitted with acute asthma were treated with 3 doses of nebulized salbutamol, 1 given by MN. The Intensive Care Psychological Assessment Tool (IPAT) was developed for this purpose in intensive care units.
