Quality Improvement Project Improve Staff Knowledge On Spravato For Treatment Resistant Depression, Cynthia Barraza Guerra
Quality Improvement Project Improve Staff Knowledge On Spravato For Treatment Resistant Depression, Cynthia Barraza Guerra
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD), defined as major depressive disorder unresponsive to at least two adequate antidepressant trials, is linked to higher morbidity, diminished quality of life, and increased healthcare utilization. Spravato (intranasal esketamine), approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, provides a novel mechanism of action through N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor modulation but requires strict safety oversight due to risks including dissociation and hypertension. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement (QI) project evaluated whether a targeted educational intervention improved staff knowledge and confidence in Spravato safety protocols. Guided by Lewin’s Change Theory, Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, and implemented with …

Quality Improvement Project High-Quality Simulation Training For High-Quality Nurse Educators, Cherrelle Hawkins
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) faculty use simulation as a teaching modality to assist nursing students in preparing for their clinical experiences by transitioning knowledge into practice. To successfully facilitate simulations, faculty must possess knowledge and competence in facilitating simulation sessions. Faculty at the practice site lacked these characteristics due to the nonexistence of a simulation training program. This quasi-experimental quality improvement project aimed to implement formal simulation training for faculty to influence self-perceived knowledge and competence in facilitation constructed by the Adult Learning Theory and the Awareness-Desire-Knowledge-Ability-Reinforcement (ADKAR) Change Model. The PI evaluated knowledge and competence …

Quality Improvement Project Impacting Provider Self-Efficacy And Use Of Cbt For Depression Treatment, Tony Orafunam
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project was conducted at a mid-sized outpatient psychiatric clinic in Hempstead, New York, focusing on strengthening providers’ self-efficacy in delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to young adults (aged 19–35) diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Rather than targeting MDD directly, the initiative aimed to impact provider self-efficacy and skill in CBT to improve access to evidence-based treatment and reduce the need for external referrals. Employing Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory and the ADKAR change model, the project used a quasi- experimental, one-group pre-test/post-test design. Six advanced practice providers participated in a structured, interactive …

Quality Improvement Project Unlocking Critical Thinking: The Use Of Guided Reflection In Nursing Education, Alissa Wheat
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Nursing education is at a crossroads as the demand for practice-ready nurses increases in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. Despite high licensure pass rates, graduates often demonstrate gaps in clinical judgment and critical thinking, key competencies for safe nursing practice. This project addressed the problem of limited structured strategies to develop these competencies among pre-licensure nursing students in a Houston-based nursing program. The purpose was to evaluate guided reflection, implemented as a competency-based education (CBE) tool, to determine its effect on faculty perceptions of supporting critical thinking and clinical judgment. A quasi-experimental, one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted with clinical faculty …

From Either-Or To All Together: Integrating Universal And Relativistic Approaches To Belonging And Engagement In The First Year Of Middle School, Kristina Shiann Tucker
Dissertations and Theses
Schools are designed to foster growth and learning while promoting positive educational outcomes for all students. Yet, there is some evidence that the education system is not meeting the needs of all students, nor are achievement outcomes the same for everyone. Some of the identified challenges seem to be developmentally based, whereas others are evident among different demographic subgroups. Developmental differences are apparent in many aspects of academic functioning, such as student motivation and engagement, which peak when students enter school and normatively decline, relatively steadily, throughout students' educational careers. Demographic disparities are even more pronounced, represented, for example, in …

Muthanna Medical Journal
Migraine is the most prevalent multidisciplinary and multifactorial neurologic disorder which is manifested by recurrent headache attack. Conditional findings indicate that nutritional deficiencies especially the deficiency of Vitamin B12 could be an influence on the pathophysiology of migraine through neurological functioning and the conversion of homocysteine. According to a recent literature, vitamin D deficiency has a potential role to play in the incidence and severity of migraines and related processes of inflammation in migraine pathogenesis. Conversely, the preservation of electric potential of the neurons is one of the principal purposes of Mg. Consequently, neurological complications may result from magnesium deficiency; …

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus can survive outside the uterus, either spontaneously (miscarriage) or intentionally (induced). On the other hand, induced abortions carried out for various reasons are referred to as elective abortions, whereas therapeutic abortions are performed to protect the pregnant woman's health. The gestational period is a particularly delicate time because it is characterized by major physiological changes in both the mother and the fetus. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Toxoplasma gondii are among the pathogenic agents that have been associated with pregnancy problems, including miscarriage. About 75% of all pregnancy …

Criminal Records As Political Capital: Renegotiating Ex-Convict Labels To Acquire Village Head Positions In East Java, Indonesia, Mochamad Iqbal Jatmiko, Muhamad Supraja
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Unlike other new democracies, the political system in post-authoritarian Indonesia has recently allowed ex-convicts to run for election. This qualitative case study examines how ex-prisoners serving as village heads in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, discursively reframed their criminal past as informal symbolic capital to win rural political contestations and effectively execute village bureaucratic functions. Contrary to previous analyses highlighting collateral consequences that disqualify ex-criminals’ political prospects, we report that interactive dialogue has successfully turned negative reputations into collectively consented territorial patronage, specifically within crime-prone village contexts. Through persuasive discursive means, this can then be leveraged to mobilize voters’ political support …

Balancing Act: Addressing Child Quantity-Quality Trade-Off In The Philippine Households With Educational And Health Social Programs, John Andrew A. Alsol, Zed Tristan L. Dy, Maire Carroline T. Magante
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
The child quantity-quality (CQQ) trade-off has been extensively studied in economic research since it was first introduced by Becker and Lewis in 1973. Studies have argued that the current economic circumstances and the presence of government aid in education and health determine the existence and extent of the CQQ trade-off. However, there is a dearth of empirically tested research on the possible decreasing effects of social programs on the CQQ trade-off. Using the 2019 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey, this paper seeks to determine the effect of education and health social programs on the CQQ trade-off in the Philippines. Probit models …

Depression, anxiety, and poor outcomes in cancer are possibly mediated by autonomic dysfunction. Autonomic disfunction found in cancer patients can cause increase in sympathetic tone and decrease in cardiac muscle vagal tone. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a non-invasive index for measuring vagal response and a potential stress response in autonomic dysfunction. In patients with cancer, high vagal tone measured by HRV is significantly correlated with increased overall survival. This evidence-based case report aims to investigate the role of HRV as a prognostic factor in cancer patients. Literature search was done by two authors on five databases: Pubmed, Cochrane Library, …

Navigating Succession: Exploring Succession Planning Strategies In Polish Family Businesses, Jan M. Klaczak, Theresa M. Neal, Yvonne Doll
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
Family businesses are the foundation of modern economies and societies, yet many encounter continuity challenges during succession. The purpose of this qualitative, multiple-case study grounded in Rothwell’s seven-step model for succession planning was to explore succession planning strategies Polish family business leaders used for ownership and leadership transfer to the next generation. Three family business leaders who executed succession planning in their firms participated in the study. Data were collected via semistructured interviews, researcher notes, and company document reviews. Using methodological triangulation and Yin’s five-step data analysis, four themes emerged: systematic succession, grooming the successor, communication with nonfamily stakeholders, and …

Rising Waters, Falling Taxes: The Impact Of Hurricane Sandy On Property Tax Assessments In New York City, Wei Guo, Qing Miao, Yusun Kim, Yilin Hou
Center for Policy Research
Climate disasters pose fiscal challenges for local governments by increasing recovery costs and demand for property tax relief. Homeowners with or without property damage face tax burdens that may not match changes to their property value. This study examines the impact of Hurricane Sandy on property values and tax assessments in New York City. Using a difference-in-differences approach and comprehensive property-level data, we find that (1) inundated properties faced greater tax burdens due to limited declines in taxable value; (2) unaffected properties in flood zones saw tax burden increases due to declining market values and unchanged taxable values; and (3) …

Ebola virus (EBOV) is a nonsegmented, negative-sense virus (NNSV) with a single-stranded RNA genome. EBOV encodes for a limited number of proteins and thus depends on host factors to facilitate viral replication and pathogenesis. Of the virus-encoded proteins, multifunctional EBOV VP35 (eVP35) is necessary for host immune evasion and viral RNA synthesis. Previous proteomics studies identified an interaction between eVP35 and the host E3 ubiquitin ligase Mindbomb 2 (MIB2). Here, we show how an NNLNS (Asn-Asn-Leu-Asn-Ser) motif (residues 201 to 205) within eVP35 serves as a binding site for MIB2. This motif is critical for eVP35-dependent inhibition of MIB2-mediated interferon …
