Psorergates rattus Fain & Goff, 1986 has been found in the brown rat Rattus norvegicus (Berkenhout, 1769) in Poland.The species has previously been found only once, in the tail base of the brown rat in the United States. In the present case, ten rats from two localities in Poland (Pomerania) were examined and infestation was discovered in 20% of them, with a total of 12 mites found. This is not only the first discovery of the species in Poland and the second globally, but also the first observation of representatives of Psorergatidae in rodents of the genus Rattus in Europe. …

A reexamination of the tardigrade collection from the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN) in Madrid was carried out. Specimens from the genera Milnesium, Macrobiotus, and Paramacrobiotus were verified in order to provide their correct identification and 15 taxa were identified. Moreover, a list of corrected species identifications from MNCN is provided. Fourteen specimens and 16 eggs, identified previously as Macrobiotus recens, were attributed to a species new for science. Macrobiotus noemiae sp. nov. is most similar to Mac. naskreckii and Mac. recens but it differs from them by details of egg morphology, mainly by the presence of thin flexible …

Two new species of Aeolothrips from the northeast of Iran, A. jajarmi sp. nov. and A. oteri sp. nov., are described. One rare Asian species, A. intactus Pelikán 1963, is newly recorded from Iran. Diagnostic characters for each species as well as illustrations to distinguish them are provided.

The objective of this study is to provide information on the parthenogenetic Artemia populations in some hypersaline lakes of Anatolia (Tuz, Bolluk, Tersakan, and Acıgöl). Sampling studies were performed for abiotic factors and population parameters between November 2009 and October 2010. During the survey we focused on the local Artemia populations to investigate population dynamics, reproduction, brood size, and cyst and naupliar biometrics. Generally, the Artemia habitats in Anatolia were relatively shallow, and thus they were subject to major seasonal fluctuations. We examined the soil fauna community composition and structure of Poyang Lake beach wetlands using the modified Tullgren and Baermann methods during September and December 2015. A total of 3755 individuals were obtained from 2 samplings, which were found to belong to 7 classes, 8 orders, 3 suborders, and 17 families. Among these, the Oribatida, Prostigmata, Nematoda, and Onychiuridae were dominant. The functional groups of soil animals included omnivores, saprozoics, predators, and phytophages. In this study, water quality parameters and zooplankton fauna were investigated from 14 different water wells in Yayladağı District of Hatay Province. The study was conducted seasonally between October 2015 and July 2016. A total of 51 species were identified, including 30 species of rotifers, 9 species of cladocerans, and 12 species of copepods. The most abundant species, Keratella cochlearis, Bosmina longirostris, and Tropocyclops prasinus, were found in 11, 13, and 12 wells, respectively. Pupae of the pistachio twig borer moth (Kermania pistaciella Amsel (Lep.: Tineidae)) were collected in the Şahinbey and Nizip-Alahacı regions of Gaziantep in February and March 2017. The pupae were kept in cages and parasitoids from Cheloninae (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) were obtained. Chelonus chetini Beyarslan & Şahan sp. nov. is described as a new species for science. The new species is described and the figures of its diagnostic characters are given.

The song repertoire across avian species varies considerably in size, and reliable measurement is important in defining its significance as a target in sexual selection. In this study, the song structure and song repertoire size of the Daurian Redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus) in South Korea were investigated. The songs had major syllable variation rather than song type variation. The average song repertoire size from 20 males was 39.9 ± 5.8 (range: 28-50), based on a syllable type that was appropriate for this species. The bathing behavior of woodpeckers (Picidae) is almost unknown and the paucity of reports of bathing in the family has led to suppositions that they may do so rarely. An unusual observation of the Atlantic Forest endemic Robust Woodpecker Campephilus robustus dew-bathing socially is reported from Paraguay and discussion of its significance follows. Dew-bathing has been reported for a small number of New World bird families and has often been linked to a shortage of water, but has never been previously reported in New World Picidae. Breeding Density Of European Turtle Dove (Streptopelia Turtur) On Sakar Mountain (Se Bulgaria), Gradimir Gruychev, Hristo Mihaylov

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study was conducted in the period of 2014-2016. The breeding density of the European Turtle Dove (Streptopelia turtur) was determined in the MG-14 (35T) square of the Universal Transverse Mercator system. The maximum number of breeding pairs/100 ha was 4.4 in 2014, 2.4 in 2015, and 1.6 in 2016. The peaks of singing Turtle Doves occurred in the second half of May and at the end of June. The number of singing males in riparian and oak forests was higher compared to other habitats.

A new species of the planktonic calanoid copepod genus Tortanus, subgenus Atortus, is described from a coral reef lagoon of Minicoy Island, southeastern Arabian Sea. The new species is included in the tropicus group, which is mainly distributed in the tropical and subtropical waters of Southeast Asia. Morphological, Ultrastructural, And Molecular Identification Of A New Microsporidian Pathogen Isolated From Crepidodera Aurata (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae), Mustafa Yaman, Gönül Algi, Renate Radek

A new microsporidian pathogen isolated from Crepidodera aurata was identified based on morphological and ultrastructural characteristics, coupled with a molecular phylogenetic analysis. The spores of the microsporidian pathogen were slightly curved in shape, and measured 2.44-3.55 µm in length and 1.25-1.55 µm in width (n = 50). Its ultrastructure is characteristic of monokaryotic groups. All lifecycle stages of the pathogen, including meronts, sporonts, sporoblasts, and mature spores, are monokaryotic. The spore has 6-8 windings of the polar filament. Morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of the lifecycle stages place it within the family Unikaryonidae. The objective of this study was to determine the structure of molluscan communities in shallow subtidal rocky bottoms of Acapulco, Mexico. Thirteen samplings were performed at 8 stations in 2012 (seven samplings), 2014 (four), and 2015 (two). The collection of the mollusks in each station was done at a maximum depth of 5 m for 1 h by 3 divers. A total of 2086 specimens belonging to 89 species, 36 families, and 3 classes of mollusks were identified. Gastropoda was the most diverse and abundant group. The swimming ground speed and swimming depths of beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) and stellate sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) were investigated using ultrasonic telemetry between 2011 and 2017 in the Lower Danube River (river kilometer (rkm) 0 Sulina-rkm 1075 Baziaş). Acoustic telemetry receivers VR2W and V16TP tags (Vemco, Canada) were used to collect data about sturgeon migration behavior in the Lower Danube River between the Black Sea and the Iron Gate II dam. The ant community living in leaf litter was assessed in 65 forest sites in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest in the southern region of the state of Bahia, Brazil. In addition, we aimed to understand the patterns between taxonomic and functional diversities using two different resolutions of classification of ants into functional groups. We identified 364 ant species belonging to 68 genera in 10 subfamilies in 65 regions. Evaluation of the spatial distribution of 2 ecologically similar, but different, in terms of their spatial ranges, earthworm species, D. octaedra and D. attemsi, in the belt forests of northwestern Caucasus were based on our own natural data and using geographic information system (GIS) modeling of modern potential distributions. The quantitative records of earthworms were collected in beech, deciduous, dark coniferous, coniferous-deciduous, and pine forests (1028 geographic locations). The aim of this study was to investigate the biodiversity and structure of the Carabidae community living at the edges of a Ramsar wetland in northeastern Algeria, as well as to analyze the effect of environmental variables on this Carabidae community. The study site included two stations (T1, T2). From November 2016 to October 2017, the carabidofauna was sampled fortnightly using pitfall traps. In the Lower Triassic, at the time that segminate gondolellid conodonts defined the Tethyan regions, endemic segminiplanate gondolellid conodonts resembling the genus ?Neogondolella? dwelled in the northern latitudes. Without the multielement apparatus characteristic of the subfamily Neogondolellinae, these forms are phylogenetically incertae sedis and one lineage was attributed to the genus Siberigondolella gen. nov.

The vinegar or pomace fly, Zaprionus tuberculatus Malloch, is native to the Afrotropical region but has recently colonized new areas in Turkey, Italy, Malta, Romania, and Greece. This invasive species was first detected in 2012 in Adana on banana and peach baits and is considered a potential agricultural pest in fig production in Turkey. However, the European and Mediterranean Plant Organization reports that no direct association of the fly with fruit damage has been documented so far because specimens were generally caught in traps. Background/aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of salbutamol delivered to children by jet nebulizer (JN) and mesh nebulizer (MN). Materials and methods: Children admitted with acute asthma were treated with 3 doses of nebulized salbutamol, 1 given by MN. The patients' vital signs, lung function measurements, modified pulmonary index score (MPIS), and whole body plethysmography (WBP) measurements were evaluated before and 20 min after each dose of salbutamol.Results: Thirty-onechildren [9.5 (6.4-17.2) years, 67.7% male, 32.3% female] with mild (67.7%) and moderate (32.3%) asthma attacks were included in the study.
