A New Species Of Ami Pérez-Miles, 2008 (Araneae: Mygalomorphae: Theraphosidae) From The Amazon Rainforest, Brazil, Marlus Queiroz Almeida, Lidianne Salvatierra, José Wellington De Morais

A new species of Ami Pérez-Miles, 2008 is described from the state of Amazonas in Brazil based on three males from Manaus. Ami valentinae sp. nov. is closely related to A. armihuariensis and A. caxiuana by the presence of a granular area on the embolus, but it differs from the first species by the presence of two retrolateral process on the male palpal tibia and differs by the latter by the morphology of the male palpal organ. A. valentinae sp. nov. is the first species of Ami reported for the Amazonas state and second species described for Brazil.

Despite their comparative richness and accessibility in the Republic of Srpska and in Bosnia and Herzegovina in general, population studies of reptiles have not been performed in Srpska until recently. For example, one of the most common snake species in this area is the dice snake; nevertheless, previous studies have only reported its distribution. The aim of the present study was to analyze characteristics of the dice snake population along the Vrbanja River. Animals were processed during 2011 throughout their activity period. This paper reports the range extension of Kyphosus vaigiensis in the northeastern (NE) Mediterranean. On 18 November, 2018, a single specimen of K. vaigiensis was caught in İskenderun Bay (36°45.6' N, 35°40.8' E) by a recreational fisherman and reported through a social media application. The violet carpenter bee is a species which can chiefly be found around the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. This bee species has rarely been found in Poland, which is the northernmost area of its occurrence. Between 1868 and 1935, the Xylocopa violacea (Linnaeus, 1758) was observed at only 8 locations in Poland. There were then no reports of the occurrence of this bee species in Poland for 70 years. This research was based on some characteristics of the erythrocyte and leukocyte cells of 9 Miniopterus schreibersii (♀♀) samples collected from Balıkesir Province in Turkey between July 2015 and September 2016. Bats were caught from an artificial cave using special nets. Blood was taken in heparinized hematocrit tubes from the forearm or tail membrane in the laboratory and the blood smears were prepared. The erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit values in the blood were determined. The aim of this study was to analyze the biological components of eggs as well as lysozyme activity in relation to the age of hens. The research material consisted of eggs from parent stock of Ross 308 meat chickens. Effect Of Various Antioxidants And Their Combinations On Bull Semen Cryopreservation, Şükrü Güngör, Ayhan Ata, Muhammed Enes İnanç, John P. Kastelic

Our objective was to evaluate the effects of adding 50 mM trehalose (TRE), 1 mM cysteine (CYS), or 400 µg catalase (CAT), individually or in combinations, to a Tris-based semen extender and determine the effects on fresh, chilled-equilibrated, and frozen-thawed bull sperm. Ejaculates from three Holstein bulls (1-3 years old) were pooled, divided into six equal portions, and put into a Tris-based extender supplemented with no additive (control), TRE, CYS, CAT, TRE + CYS, or TRE + CYS + CAT. In chilled-equilibrated semen, motility was highest in CAT but lowest in the control (P < 0.05). In thawed semen, motility was lower (P < 0.05) in CAT than in all other groups, which were not different. Based on a hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS test), TRE, CYS, and their combinations had higher (P < 0.05) percentages of sperm with an intact plasma membrane than the control or CAT groups. The TRE group had the least (P < 0.05) morphologically abnormal sperm. Plasma membrane and acrosomal integrity (PMAI) and high mitochondrial membrane potential (HMMP) values were highest in TRE and TRE + CYS and were lower (P < 0.05) in the control. Furthermore, HMMP was positively correlated with PMAI and HOS tests, but negatively correlated with major + minor abnormalities (r = 0.66, 0.242, and -0.349). In conclusion, the addition of TRE, with or without CYS, to a Tris-based semen extender improved several aspects of the frozen-thawed quality of bull semen. However, addition of CAT, by itself or in combination with other additives, did not protect bull sperm against cryopreservation-induced defects.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the walking phases in horses using the OptoGait system, which works with optical sensors. In this pilot study, 52 healthy horses were used. For each horse, an average of 45 steps were examined. The stance phase, swing phase, step distance, and walking speeds of the horses were recorded. The purpose of this study was to examine resistance against cadmium (Cd$^{+2}$), copper (Cu$^{+2}$), lead (Pb$^{+2}$), mercury (Hg$^{+2}$), and manganese (Mn$^{+2}$) in Escherichia coli isolates recovered from cattle stool using phenotypic (agar dilution) and genotypic [polymerase chain reaction (PCR)] methods. In addition, the isolates were genotyped via enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR). Escherichia coli was isolated and identified from the 100 stool samples that were examined in the study. The aim of this study was to produce biosurfactants from whey waste using Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus as well as to determine oil spreading, emulsification index, surface tension, and antiadhesive properties in these biosurfactants. Additionally, the capability of biosurfactant production from whey waste in the dairy industry was compared with that of MRS broth, a commercial culture medium. The presence of biosurfactants by all lactic acid bacteria was detected using the oil spreading test. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of SV technology on conception rates in repeat breeder multiparous dairy cows. Seventy-nine multiparous Holstein cows from a private dairy farm were used in the study. These animals were cows that had failed to conceive from at least 3 regularly spaced services (repeat breeders). The effects of nano-ZnO on in vitro ruminal fermentation, methane release, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and microbial biomass production (MBP) were assessed using an in vitro gas production technique. Treatments included a control diet and diets containing 20, 40, or 60 mg of supplemental Zn per kg dry matter (DM) as ZnO or nano-ZnO. As a result of this study, supplementation of 20 mg of Zn as nano-ZnO, similar to ZnO, decreased methane production and protozoa enumeration but improved (P < 0.05) TAC, MBP, digestibility and truly degraded substrate (TDS). As compared with the control treatment, adding the supplementary Zn had no effect on partitioning factor, MBP efficiency, pH, and ammonia-N (P > 0.05). The present study was planned to isolate Escherichia coli from pneumonic and septicemic sheep and goats and to determine antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns of the isolates and evaluate them for the presence of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL) using the phenotypic and molecular methods. Pneumonic lung tissues and heart blood samples were collected by performing necropsy on sheep (n = 96) and goats (n = 08). The samples were processed and used for bacterial isolation. The goal of this study was to develop a method for the diagnosis of latent respiratory failure in calves with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in farm conditions.
