Host Microbiome Regulation Of Hyperthermia Mediated By 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (Mdma, Molly), Emily Ridge Dec 2017

Host Microbiome Regulation Of Hyperthermia Mediated By 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (Mdma, Molly), Emily Ridge

Honors Projects

Hyperthermia is one of the most acute and life-threatening consequences of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) use. The hyperthermia induced by MDMA involves a complex interaction between heat generation and loss of heat dissipation. Recent studies have demonstrated a role for gut microbiome in the regulation of body weight and temperature. Here, we investigated the potential role of the gut microbiome in MDMA-mediated hyperthermia. For fourteen days prior to treatment with MDMA (20 mg/kg, sc) male, Sprague-Dawley rats were provided regular drinking water or drinking water laced with the non-absorbable antibiotics, bacitracin (0.5 mg/mL), neomycin (2mg/mL), and vancomycin (0.2mg/mL). Antibiotic (ABX) treatment reduced …

Groundwater Flood Hazards And Mechanisms In Lowland Karst Terrains, Owen Naughton, Ted Mccormack, Laurence Gill Dec 2017

Groundwater Flood Hazards And Mechanisms In Lowland Karst Terrains, Owen Naughton, Ted Mccormack, Laurence Gill

KIP Articles

The spatial and temporal complexities of flooding in karst terrains pose unique challenges in flood risk management. Lowland karst landscapes can be particularly susceptible to groundwater flooding due to a combination of low aquifer storage, high diffusivity and limited or absent surface drainage. Numerous notable groundwater flood events have been recorded in the Republic of Ireland throughout the twentieth century, but flooding during the winters of 2009 and 2015 was the most severe on record, causing widespread and prolonged disruption and damage to property and infrastructure. Effective flood risk management requires an understanding of the recharge, storage and transport mechanisms …

Arguments Against Amalgamation: The Citizen’S Council Battles Integration By Controlling The Narrative, Evelyn S. Kerns

Honors Theses

In 1954, the Supreme Court decision Brown vs. Board of Education eradicated the “separate, but equal” mentality that confined African Americans to the menial state of oppression and exploitation that had plagued their people since they arrived in America. However, this decision did little to neutralize the proclivity to segregation nor did it quell the surmounting racial tensions between black people and the upper echelon of Southern society. Conversely, the federal mandate to integrate public schools roused white supremacists to interpose desegregation through resistance, violence, and fear-mongering propaganda. The most flagrant organization of white supremacists was known as the White …

Climate Change Impacts On Flow And Suspended Sediment Yield In Headwaters Of High-Latitude Regions-A Case Study In China's Far Northeast, Yuyan Zhou, Y. Jun Xu, Weihua Xiao, Jianhua Wang, Ya Huang, Heng Yang

Faculty Publications

Climate change is expected to have stronger effects on water resources in higher latitude regions. Despite intensive research on possible hydrological responses in those regions to a warmer environment, our knowledge on erosion and sediment yield induced by the climate change in high-latitude headwaters is still limited. In this study, we estimated suspended sediment yields from 2021 to 2050 in a typical headwater area of far Northeast China to elucidate potential impacts of future climate change on surface runoff and erosion in higher latitude regions. We first parameterized the Soil andWater Assessment Tool (SWAT) using historical measurements to estimate runoff …

Testing The Measurement Invariance Of Data From The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale By Generational Cohort For Employees In The Leisure And Hospitality Industry, Greggory Keiffer Dec 2017

Testing The Measurement Invariance Of Data From The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale By Generational Cohort For Employees In The Leisure And Hospitality Industry, Greggory Keiffer

Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations

Group comparison in social science research is a common and informative practice. The establishment of measurement invariance between groups is a statistical prerequisite before making group mean comparisons; however, researchers often do not include measurement invariance assessments before making group comparisons. The current study assessed the measurement invariance for data from the short version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) for the generational cohort groups of Boomers and Millennials within the leisure and hospitality industry. Group equivalency was determined by utilizing propensity score matching before conducting measurement invariance assessments through the confirmatory factor analysis technique. Measurement invariance results between …

Keeping Glass Recycling Financially Sustainable: A Cost - Benefit Analysis, Tia Newlove Dec 2017

Keeping Glass Recycling Financially Sustainable: A Cost - Benefit Analysis, Tia Newlove

Honors Projects

Previous research has shown the value that recycled glass, cullet, has in glass container production, road construction and fiberglass production. This cost - benefit analysis explores the value chain of cullet to glass container manufacturers. Glass container manufacturers have a tradeoff between the economic limitations and the environmental benefits of using cullet in the manufacturing process. The cost of cullet is greatly impacted by the location of recycled glass processors relative to the location of glass container manufacturing plants. Strategic investment by glass container manufacturers into maintaining the supply of cullet is essential as recycling programs evolve in the United …

Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Pembungaan Pada Mangga (Mangifera Indica L.), Ardika Albi Fauzi, Wawan Sutari, Nursuhud, Syariful Mubarok

Jurnal Kultivasi
