The Effect Of Social Influence On Perception Of Tornado Warnings, Jason A. Parker
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Tornado activity annually results in many deaths throughout the U.S. As a result, the emergency alert system (including tornado warnings) has made considerable advancements throughout the past few decades. However, continued improvements could be made to warning content that aid to facilitate adaptive decision-making by increasing individuals’ motivation to respond. One method that could increase adaptive responses to warnings is by including the modality of descriptive social information within the warning. Research suggests that normative social influence acts as a powerful motivator for individuals to conform toward the witnessed or perceived behaviors of others. Visualizing The Impacts Of Extreme Weather Events Using 3d Visualization To Aid Pre-Event Risk Communication, Thomas L. Brown
Visualizing The Impacts Of Extreme Weather Events Using 3d Visualization To Aid Pre-Event Risk Communication, Thomas L. Brown
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Weather is everywhere. Rapidly expanding capabilities in information technology present an opportunity to develop better warning products for extreme weather events. In the wake of recent extreme events from Superstorm Sandy to Hurricane Matthew, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service have repeated the call for improving techniques for disseminating critical information to the general public during potential weather disasters. This research uses 3D GIS and geovisualization to improve the communication of expert risk information to the general public.
A Cosmopolitan Landscape: Development Of A Body Of Paintings That Explore And Expand Upon The Shared Tropes Of Figuration In The Work Of Giovanni Bellini And Shen Zhou, Harrison See
Theses : Honours
This creative honours project is a practice-led investigation into the painted figural landscape, particularly with the aim of identifying and exploring mutuality within the enduring artistic traditions of Chinese and Western painting. Informing this cross-cultural analysis is a deep engagement with the ‘figure in the landscape’ artworks of Giovanni Bellini and Shen Zhou; both painters chosen to represent their respective artistic traditions’. To support this search for mutuality this project was equipped with a Stoic Cosmopolitan perspective designed to facilitate cross-cultural understanding. Using this theoretical perspective and an informed understanding of these two artists practices’, a series of painted studies …

One of the initiative’s core components is the Faculty Fellows Program. Faculty members who choose to participate in the program receive training in oral, written, and visual communication instruction. UK has invested a great …
