In the global trend of sustainable development and tightening legal environment, enterprises need to integrate their various resources to promote green innovation and organizational performances. This study conceptualizes green information system (IS) infrastructure as the hardware resource and green culture as the software resource. Based on the resource-alignment perspective, it examines their direct effects on green innovation effectiveness as well as indirect effects through the mediation of IS-culture fit, innovation-IS fit and innovation-culture fit. Survey observations were collected from over 300 organizations in China, the largest emerging economy under tremendous ecological and developmental pressures. The results suggest that green IS …
Teaching And Learning Courageous Followership: An Action Research Study, Karen Walker Schwab
Teaching And Learning Courageous Followership: An Action Research Study, Karen Walker Schwab
Theses & Dissertations
Followership has been shown to be a developmental stage of leadership. Yet, there is a lack of followership theory in the health-care context. The purpose of this qualitative action research study was to explore how introducing Chaleff’s dimensions of courageous followership influences the undergraduate nursing students’ views of the follower role and informs their nursing practice. Secondary research questions asked how knowledge of these dimensions influences the nursing students’ views while advocating, collaborating, and addressing lateral violence. Using purposeful sampling, 12 participants were recruited for this study. After attending a followership seminar, they completed online reflections and participated in individual …

Psychological Conditions Of Engagement Among Community College Maintenance Employees: A Cross-Sectional Study, Tammy T. Franks
Dissertations
This dissertation examined the relationship between employee engagement and the factors that may influence the three psychological conditions of engagement: meaningfulness, safety, and availability for the sector of employees classified as maintenance, grounds, and custodial employees in a community college setting. The factors for each of the three conditions are meaningfulness (job enrichment, work role fit, and co-worker relations), safety (co-worker relations, supervisor relations and co-worker norms), and availability (resources, self-consciousness, and outside activities). Further, the researcher used a mediation model to determine if any of the psychological conditions mediated the relationship between its determinants and engagement. All 15 Mississippi …

The Role Of Leader Empowering Behaviors On Work Engagement And Intent To Stay Among Staff Nurses In Acute Care Hospitals, Ingrid Kindipan
Nursing Dissertations - Archive
Leader empowering behavior is a facilitative process where employees perceive their leader to allow self-management and self-leadership of employees. Leader empowering behaviors can be perceived by employees as either enabling or burdensome. The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to examine the relationship of leader empowering behaviors with nurse demographics, work engagement and intent to stay. A convenience sample of nurses (N = 212) employed in various nursing units within four hospitals completed an online survey related to perceived leader empowering behaviors, and the nurse’s level of work engagement and intent to stay in his/her organization of employment. Overall, …

Adopting Organizational Learning Systems At The Field Level Of International Ngos, Rebecca Beauregard
Capstone Collection
An increased push for accountability in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has led to the imperative for what was previously an internal management practice widely-utilized in the private sector: organizational learning. Learning initiatives support organizations to utilize resources more effectively and to reach their objectives with adaptive strategies.
In this paper, I explore the many components belonging to the organizational learning umbrella term from multiple disciplines, grounding my inquiry in the context of international NGOs. The findings from my qualitative research highlight aspects of learning and knowledge management in addition to organizational change and culture; to provide a comprehensive understanding of organizational …

This article, collaboratively written by the presidents of the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA), presents leadership as conceptualized and practiced in NLPA. We first identify key leadership constructs in the available literature as well as relevant cultural values, describe liderazgo (leadership) through cultural lenses, and articulate the connections to counseling psychology and the social justice underpinnings that have guided NLPA's formation and development. We then present a number of events and decisions to illustrate how we have operationalized these organizing principles in both the daily management and long-term goals of NLPA. We conclude with a discussion of the future paths …
Resisting Technology-Enabled Change Within Healthcare Organization, Yong Kwang Adrian Yeow, Wee-Kiat Lim
Resisting Technology-Enabled Change Within Healthcare Organization, Yong Kwang Adrian Yeow, Wee-Kiat Lim
CCX Research
Instead of the predominant view of resistance as one that occurs between the management and those lower in the hierarchy, we consider how acts of resisting would unfold between peer actors within a technology-enabled change project for a large university hosptial. Drawing on institutional politics, we highlight the importance of understanding organizational resistance as a set of interrelated skillful acts, where the actions of resisters are not only co-constitutive with actions of agents of change but also interrelated across resisters at different levels of the organization. This case also illustrates how resisting actions could play out across an entire change …

Development Of A Patient-Centered Medical Home Toolkit At An Integrated Primary Care Clinic, Lyndsay A. Randall
Doctoral Projects
Health care spending in the United States far exceeds that of other high-income countries (Squires & Anderson, 2015). In 2013, the U.S. spent 17.1 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on healthcare, which was almost 50 percent more than the next highest spender noted as France (Squires & Anderson, 2015). While the U.S. spends more on healthcare than other countries, multiple other health outcome measures are worse including life expectancy, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic respiratory illnesses (Squires & Anderson, 2015). Today’s healthcare system is highly fragmented, lacking the necessary coordination within the primary care setting.

The Influence Of Instructional Coaches On Special Educators’ Skills And Effectiveness, Julie Olsen
All Theses And Dissertations
Instructional coaching has been a practice in public schools since the early 1990’s and began in the area of reading coaching. While coaching has expanded nationally to include other content areas over the years, there is little information regarding the use of Instructional Coaches who are experts in the field of special education. This qualitative study, grounded in Vygotsky’s (1934) sociocultural theory of human learning and Jim Knight’s (2007) partnership theory, examines the ways in which Instructional Coaches influence special educators’ skills/effectiveness and the experiences special educators have with coaching models in a K-8 public school district. Thirteen special educators …

To Grow Or Not To Grow: Socio-Cognitive Determinants Of Small And Medium Firm Growth And Threshold Mentality, David A. Alvarado
To Grow Or Not To Grow: Socio-Cognitive Determinants Of Small And Medium Firm Growth And Threshold Mentality, David A. Alvarado
Theses and Dissertations
Small business owners (entrepreneurs) are heterogeneous in their motivations and goals, with some seeking to expand firm scope, size, and purpose, and others seeking stability. The small and medium firm growth literature indicates that growth intention varies, but why does it vary so much, and so often? Why do some firms have a threshold mentality, represented by a stability intention, while others have a growth intention? To explore these questions, this dissertation empirically examines the socio-cognitive determinants of small and medium firm growth intentions. Participants included owner/managers of independent Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) decision-making authority for their firms. 159 …

Quantifying Socio-Political Supply Risk For Critical Materials, Vasken Xhaxhollari
Theses
Modern technology including solar cells, household electronics, and defense aircraft among many others depends on a complex network of trade to source many of the materials, services, and technical know-how to maintain production. These technologies contribute beneficially to our everyday lives and are used in many fields including green energy production, everyday electronics, and defense related goods. Some of the materials that are required to produce such technology are in high demand and often volatile supply, with limited opportunities for substitutability due to their specific uses. Thus, these materials are known as critical materials; recent developments have significantly impacted their …

Essays On Information Technology And Value Creation: Corporate Governance, Software Firm Acquisitions, And Entrepreneurial Signaling, Nikhil Ramkrishna Bandodkar
All Dissertations
Value creation is often at the core of many organizational activities and is often reflected in the exploration and exploitation of opportunities to foster organizational growth. In modern organizations, information technology (IT) plays a significant role in creating business value and building substantial competitive advantage. While in the traditional conception of the process, value creation often occurred within the organization through its activities and outside markets, present day organizations often open their organizational boundaries to engage external expertise, innovate continuously, and locate new sources of value creation. Towards this end, the present dissertation looks at new sources, processes, and outcomes …

Perception Of Current And Ideal Practices Related To Public Value In Extension, Laura H. Downey, Donna J. Peterson, Nancy Franz
Journal of Extension
Extension professionals are increasingly encouraged to engage in practices that can advance the public value movement. It is unclear, however, whether recommended practices related to public value are being adopted. In 2014, 235 Extension professionals at Mississippi State University responded to an organizational capacity survey that included questions on public value practices. Research described here explored discrepancies between current and ideal public value practices among Extension professionals. Paired-samples t-tests revealed statistically significant discrepancies between current and ideal public value practices. The findings can inform efforts by Extension professionals seeking to increase awareness and practices related to public value.

This study examines the concept of unlearning, the process of disuse or replacement of an action, procedure or belief in favor of a new one, in the context of healthcare. Little is known about the true nature of unlearning and related learning change processes within the context of healthcare. The study of unlearning continues to be important not only due to the nature of the discipline itself, but physicians are required to support knowledge change for improved care quality. The study argues the introduction of new Health Information Technologies (HITs), such as EMRs, affect the unlearning process in physician providers. …

All Capstone Projects
This project explored law enforcement decision-making through the review of decision-making literature, consideration of the Critical Decision Model (CDM), and semistructured interviews with law enforcement officers. In 2016, the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) recommended the adoption and use of the CDM by law enforcement officers as a new way to approach tactical decisions. A review of the CDM suggests a linear, rational, weighing of options by officers. While this may be an excellent tool for slowly developing situations, for pre-mortems, or for debriefing, the CDM step four (identify options and determine best course of action) and step five (act, …
