Improving Care Coordination: Impact Of A Doctorate Of Nursing Practice Prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist, Deborah Francis

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Transformations in healthcare have challenged organizations to control costs while continuing to provide high quality care. Simultaneously, patients continue to present with higher acuities and increased complexity of healthcare needs. These organizational challenges have provided an opportunity for the doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) prepared advance practice nurse to utilize the core competencies outlined by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to improve quality of patient care (AACN, 2006).

Consistent with the 2010 Institute of Medicine Report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,we identified opportunities for improvements in the coordination of care (Institute of Medicine. …

Integrating The Doctor Of Nursing Practice In Practice Settings: Implications For Clinical Outcomes And Scholarship, Mary G. Nash, Esther M. Chipps

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) has now moved into its" first decade of existence. Early discussions among nursing thought leaders were focused on promoting the development, assessment and evaluation of DNP curriculums to meet the American Associations of the Colleges of Nursing (AACN) recommendations (Melnyk, 2013). As the profession of nursing has gained experience with the DNP graduates, we are entering the next phase of discussion; the integration and operationalization of the role within healthcare systems. Nurse leaders in academic and practice settings have the opportunity to collaborate on ways to identify and measure the impact of this new …

Combat Experiences, Iso-Strain, And Sleep Quality Affect Symptoms Of Posttraumatic Stress Among Working Post-9/11 Veterans, Gilbert Patrick Brady Jr. Jul 2017

Combat Experiences, Iso-Strain, And Sleep Quality Affect Symptoms Of Posttraumatic Stress Among Working Post-9/11 Veterans, Gilbert Patrick Brady Jr.

Dissertations and Theses

Despite the growing need, prior research on how the civilian work domain may affect posttraumatic stress is scarce. Moreover, few if any studies have investigated how perceptions of one's job and insomnia may shape traumatic stress symptoms, post-combat. Presently, about 4 million Americans have served in the "Global War on Terrorism," including nearly 1 million reservists. By contrast, 8.7 million Americans served in the Vietnam War: over twice the number of U.S. military personnel who have fought since 9/11. Surprisingly, combat experiences alone do not explain the majority of posttraumatic stress disorder cases, even after multiple deployments, suggesting the presence …

Importance Of Auxiliary Theories In Research On University-Community Partnerships: The Example Of Psychological Sense Of Community, N. Andrew Peterson, Paul W. Speer, Christina Hamme Peterson, Kristen Gilmore Powell, Peter Treitler, Yuqi Wang

Collaborations: A Journal of Community-Based Research and Practice

Psychological sense of community (PSOC) has long been recognized as a key element of successful collaborative initiatives, particularly university-community partnerships. A critical challenge involves the development of auxiliary theories that guide the specification of measurement models in studies of PSOC and other theoretical constructs. Auxiliary theories can be especially useful in clarifying the differences between scales and indexes, and how each is uniquely specified and validated. Scales are based on reflective measurement in which classical test theory can be applied (e.g., reliability estimation, confirmatory factor analysis) to evaluate scores that are hypothesized to be highly correlated and as representing manifestations …

Using Reflective Practice To Support Management Student Learning: Three Brief Assignments, Anne H. Reilly Jul 2017

Using Reflective Practice To Support Management Student Learning: Three Brief Assignments, Anne H. Reilly

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Reflective practice supports critical thinking and assessment skills through analyzing one’s own life experiences, and the role of reflection in learning has been long recognized. However, drawbacks of many reflective practice assignments are their broad scope and lengthy written requirements. I propose that the reflection process is robust enough to support management student learning through short written tasks as well. Three examples of brief reflective assignments are presented suitable for management educators teaching undergraduate, graduate, or non-credit learners: (1) writing an organizational story, (2) a reflection about learning from adversity, and (3) a goal-oriented personal change. Learning outcomes and student …

Exploring Determinants Of Registered Nurses' Trust In Their Managers, Barbara Joy Wilson-Keates Jul 2017

Exploring Determinants Of Registered Nurses' Trust In Their Managers, Barbara Joy Wilson-Keates

Dissertations

A nurse-manager relationship plays a key role in a nurse's practice environment. A nurse's trust in one's manager is the foundation for a supportive nurse-manager relationship and has crucial bearing upon the professional and personal lives of the nurse. However due to health care restructuring, nurses expressed little trust towards their leaders. To develop and implement strategies to help build healthy nurse-manager relationships, research is needed to more fully understand the factors that establish and enhance a nurse's trust in one's manager.

Impact Of Erp Implementation On The Quality Of Work Life Of Users: A Sub-Saharan African Study, Liam Bailey, Lisa F. Seymour, Jean-Paul Van Belle

The African Journal of Information Systems

ERP implementations have a disruptive impact on users and in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries are more problematic than in developed countries. Extant ERP literature has not focused on the impact of implementations on users work life. Therefore this research aimed to confirm this impact on SSA users’ work life. A theoretical framework and survey was developed from Dooyeweerd’s “Down-To-Earth” aspects and the Easton and Van Laar Work-Related Quality of Life scale. Responses from users from 7 countries working for one case organisation were analysed. The significant effect of an ERP implementation on work life quality was confirmed. Cultural differences were …

Transformative Events In The Lgbtq Rights Movement, Ellen A. Andersen Jul 2017

Transformative Events In The Lgbtq Rights Movement, Ellen A. Andersen

Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality

Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 Supreme Court case holding that same-sex couples had a constitutional right to marry under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, was widely hailed in the media as a turning point for the LGBTQ rights movement. In this article, I contemplate the meaning of turning points. Social movement scholars have shown that specific events can, on rare occasion, alter the subsequent trajectory of a social movement. Such events have been termed ‘transformative events.’ I ask whether judicial decisions have the capacity to be transformative events and, if so, under what circumstances. I begin by …

2017 - Land Use Trends Salinas River Watershed And Groundwater Basin 1771-2015 [Draft] By Dr. Peter Reinelt

Related Research and Documents

Data collated from multiple sources from 1771 through 2015 is used to estimate agricultural land use in the Salinas River Watershed and Groundwater Basin. Institutional responsibility for collecting and maintaining data changed with evolving sovereignty over the region and later with state and county organizational changes. As institutional focus evolved, the type and form of data collected also changed. Therefore, the compiled data often used different units of measurements and have various levels of completeness. Thus, procedures are developed here to collate the data into a consistent form by transforming all cropping data sets to a per acre basis and …

Domestic Violence And The National Football League, Kelsey Rentner Jul 2017

Domestic Violence And The National Football League, Kelsey Rentner

Master of Arts in Media and Communication Plan II Graduate Projects

In 2014, the National Football League (NFL) faced extreme criticism for the way it handled the three domestic violence cases that emerged into the spotlight. The Ray Rice video that showed him punching his at-the-time fiancé, as well as the several other domestic violence cases among NFL players that quickly followed, shed a light on what seemed to be a well-hidden problem within the league. Since being in the public eye, the league has not been effective with its communication efforts to prevent the issue of domestic violence and rebuild its reputation among stakeholders. This project uses evidence-based literature to …

The Concrete Body Of Knowledge (Unnatural Environment Of The Embodied Communications), Sławomir Magala Jul 2017

The Concrete Body Of Knowledge (Unnatural Environment Of The Embodied Communications), Sławomir Magala

European Management Studies

Bodies of knowledge are embodied in research communities and concretized in implementing networks. Neither Fleck nor Kuhn managed to dent the neopositivist mainstream of normal science in spite of its increasing incompatibility with the eventist ontology and social ecology of knowledge. Spatiotemporal pragmatics allows us to test embodied knowledge and to influence political negotiation between ideological abstractions. For instance, Soviet soldiers and Confederation generals have their monuments torn down. Values are not covered by metaphysical mortgage but emerge out of a multidimensional conversation of mankind, which harks back to the democracy of knowledge and culture after the Enlightenment as an …

Managing Careers For Ambidexterity And Organizational Alignment: Why It Matters Today To Hr Practice, Nicole C. Jackson, Isabelle Lescent-Giles, Linda M. Dunn-Jensen

Organization Management Journal

Today’s competitive environment increasingly calls for organizations and their employees to align competencies and individual capabilities for ambidexterity. Ambidexterity is defined as the need to exploit competencies while allowing for innovative potential. The role of human capital development, and specifically understanding how existing human resources (HR) practices may limit ambidexterity, is central to career management. While career management spans both individual and organizational interests, we approach this issue from the question of how firms can manage careers to build organizational ambidexterity. We also explore what HR professionals can do to address this issue. As part of our approach, we focus …

Between Words And Deeds: Diverse Voices And The Communicative Constitution Of Diversity, Scott E. Branton Ii Jul 2017

Between Words And Deeds: Diverse Voices And The Communicative Constitution Of Diversity, Scott E. Branton Ii

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

While diversity is widely discussed throughout management literature, the impact of diversity management on diverse organizational members remains exceedingly sparse. Furthermore, the present case study uses a communication centered approach to address how diverse faculty member’s organizational experiences with diversity align with an academic institution’s publicly stated values of diversity. Through a critical interpretive lens, 15 semi-structured, in-depth interviews of diverse faculty members were conducted at a medium sized, Southern university (“Southern U”). Findings suggested that contradictions were heavily embedded into Southern U’s diversity communication resulting in a host of paradoxical tensions for diverse faculty members. This study explored the …
