Effects Of Learner-To-Learner Interactions On Social Presence, Achievement And Satisfaction, Susan Elizabeth Allred Oyarzun
STEMPS Theses & Dissertations
The relationships between learner-to-learner interactions, achievement, social presence, and satisfaction in online learning have varying degrees of strength according to the research. More evidence is needed to identify clarify relationships among these variables and to identify best practices for designing learner-to-learner interactions to increase achievement, level of social presence, and learner satisfaction. This non-experimental, comparative study investigated the strategies used for learner-to-learner interactions effects on achievement, social presence, and satisfaction. Surveys measuring social presence and interaction quality were administered to instructors and students enrolled in 17 undergraduate asynchronous online courses. Application Of Spatial And Descriptive Analysis Methods To Determine Relationship Between Hardware Subsidies And The Sanitation Marketplace, Danielle Devuyst
Application Of Spatial And Descriptive Analysis Methods To Determine Relationship Between Hardware Subsidies And The Sanitation Marketplace, Danielle Devuyst
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Sanitation marketing is an emerging approach of strengthening the local private sector to implement scalable and sustainable improved sanitation coverage in developing countries, specifically among the poor. It encourages the enhancement of sanitation market supply and demand by developing distribution infrastructure and stimulating consumer interest. Unlike interventions that provide hardware subsidies to initiate sanitation demand, financial support for sanitation marketing is used exclusively for the research and development of the market; this encourages the private sector to become independent and self-sufficient. Qualitative data suggests that while sanitation marketing projects have been successful at implementing replicable and sustainable sanitation coverage, they …

Video Object Extraction Using The Curvelet Transform, Usama Sayed, Mahmoud A. Mofaddel, Marwa M. Abd-Elgawad
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper a novel scheme for video object extraction based on the second generation of the curvelet transform which is called Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT) via wrapping is introduced. The main advantages of using FDCT are the approximate properties and the high directional sensitivity of this transform. An imaginary component of the curvelet coefficients to extract the moving objects in the video sequence is used. The proposed algorithm is mainly divided into two steps. The first step is based on estimating the static background from the initial frames using FDCT, the seconded step is based on subtracting the …

Eyetracking Metrics Related To Subjective Assessments Of Asl Animations, Matt Huenerfauth, Hernisa Kacorri
Presentations and other scholarship
Analysis of eyetracking data can serve as an alternative method of evaluation when assessing the quality of computer-synthesized animations of American Sign Language (ASL), technology which can make information accessible to people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, who may have lower levels of written language literacy. In this work, we build and evaluate the efficacy of descriptive models of subjective scores that native signers assign to ASL animations, based on eye-tracking metrics.

Exploring Family Heritage And Personal Space To Find Meaning And Content In Student Art, Rebecca Link Wilhelm
Theses and Dissertations
As an art educator, I found student art lacking in meaning and students lacking personal engagement. I sought a way to engage students in more meaningful art-making in the classroom by exploring family heritage and personal spaces. This case study searched the family heritage and personal spaces of students in a junior high art class to engage students and find deeper meaning and context for student art-making. The research was informed through an arts-based inquiry with a/r/tographic influence. It was a qualitative inquiry, mining the familiar for development of a curriculum rich in context and personal significance for students. This …

Personalities Of The Chinese Zodiac, Tang-Hsuan Liu
Theses
3D animation has been trending for many years now. Many stories and the characters in those stories are being re-designed and represented by 3D.
Stories I grew up with in Taiwan are so different from those popular in Western culture. While I enjoyed Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Mickey Mouse, I also loved many classic Chinese stories, one of them being that of the Chinese Zodiac.
This story is about animals having a race to decide who will be the only 12 animals that represent each year. They are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, dog …
