Music Videos As Meaningful Entertainment? Psychological Responses To Audio-Visual Presentations Of Song Narratives, Lea Margarete Schlue
Music Videos As Meaningful Entertainment? Psychological Responses To Audio-Visual Presentations Of Song Narratives, Lea Margarete Schlue
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Combining auditive, visual, and textual elements in a unique way, music videos are currently one of the most popular and viral forms of entertainment media. Narrative music videos, in particular, engage their viewers by visually communicating the meaning of a song and its lyrics, which possibly employs them as a useful tool to communicate social, political and cultural messages to a broad audience, and implicates their social and cultural relevance. The purpose of this study was to test whether visual presentations of song narratives (as in music videos) foster a more transporting, engaging, enjoyable, and appreciative entertainment experience than listening …
Coaching Knowledge And Noticing In Youth Sports: Challenging The Assumption Of Expertise, Philip James Liversedge
Coaching Knowledge And Noticing In Youth Sports: Challenging The Assumption Of Expertise, Philip James Liversedge
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Sport is an integral part of the majority of children's lives. Participation in sport can provide children with many physical and psychological benefits. Tasked with coaching children are coaches who are often parents and volunteers. These coaches have a variety of different levels of experience and expertise. A question that must be answered is what are the range of kinds of knowledge that coaches rely upon? This study delves further and attempts to understand how coaches use this knowledge in the act of noticing. Alongside understanding the complexity of coaching this study attempts to demonstrate the individuality and diversity in …
Colaboratory: Design Collaboration For The Greater Good, Stephanie Arends Neal
Colaboratory: Design Collaboration For The Greater Good, Stephanie Arends Neal
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
A university campus is comprised of countless students enrolled in an array of degree programs that logistically creates a diverse population that can and should culminate into a dynamic professional network for graduates. How can higher education capitalize on this melting pot to provide experiences for students and fuse this network? A place, where students collectively solve problems by applying knowledge from their degree-specific areas, will foster interdisciplinary collaboration. By requiring working-relationships between students that benefit their community, a design center will provide students with experiences across disciplines that mirror a real-world, collaborative work environment while they identify opportunities and …
Novel H.265 Video Traffic Prediction Models Using Artificial Neural Networks, Collin Daly
Novel H.265 Video Traffic Prediction Models Using Artificial Neural Networks, Collin Daly
Honors College Theses
In this work, we propose the use of non-linear, autoregressive neural network models for predicting video frame sizes. This model utilizes H.265 encoded video traces as inputs and the predicted future frame sizes as outputs. This model is developed to predict ultra-high definition video frame encoded with H.265 within IP networks. The video I, P, and B frames are predicted separately to improve model prediction accuracy. This approach is verified in MATLAB using various H.265 video traces. The results indicate that the proposed models were able to predict the video traffic fairly accurately.

Shakespeare And The Cultural Olympiad: Contesting Gender And The British Nation In The Bbc’S Hollow Crown, L Monique Pittman
Shakespeare And The Cultural Olympiad: Contesting Gender And The British Nation In The Bbc’S Hollow Crown, L Monique Pittman
Faculty Publications
As part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad celebrating both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics, the BBC launched a season of programs, entitled Shakespeare Unlocked, most notably presenting the plays of the second tetralogy in four feature-length adaptations released under the unifying title The Hollow Crown. These plays so obviously engaged with the question of English nationalism suited a year in which the United Kingdom wrestled with British identity in a post-colonial and post-Great Recession world. Through its adaptative and filmic vocabularies, however, The Hollow Crown advances a British nationalism unresponsive to the casualties — often women and …
Anticommercial Purposes: New Methods In Graphic Design And Radical Environmental Change, Nina Berry
Anticommercial Purposes: New Methods In Graphic Design And Radical Environmental Change, Nina Berry
University Honors Theses
This paper explores the ways in which graphic design has approached and interacted with sustainability throughout the last quarter of the 20th century and into today. Following two collaborative manifestos of graphic designers discussing design's potential outside of the commercial realm, this paper examines the way that graphic design has assisted with environmentalism thus far and makes a proposal for the way that graphic design should be used in an environmentally sustainable context into the future. Using the tenets of the new scholarly realm of Transition Design, this paper dissects how graphic design can assist a transition away from a …
