The Geotraces Intermediate Data Product 2014, The Geotraces Group, Tim M. Conway Dec 2015

The Geotraces Intermediate Data Product 2014, The Geotraces Group, Tim M. Conway

School of Geosciences Faculty and Staff Publications

The GEOTRACES Intermediate Data Product 2014 (IDP2014) is the first publicly available data product of the international GEOTRACES programme, and contains data measured and quality controlled before the end of 2013. It consists of two parts: (1) a compilation of digital data for more than 200 trace elements and isotopes (TEIs) as well as classical hydrographic parameters, and (2) the eGEOTRACES Electronic Atlas providing a strongly inter-linked on-line atlas including more than 300 section plots and 90 animated 3D scenes. The IDP2014 covers the Atlantic, Arctic, and Indian oceans, exhibiting highest data density in the Atlantic. The TEI data in …

The Tale Of Two Middle School Literacy Coaches: Implications For Building Coaching Capacity, Tina Edwards Dec 2015

The Tale Of Two Middle School Literacy Coaches: Implications For Building Coaching Capacity, Tina Edwards

Dissertations

This study examines the day to day practices of two middle school literacy coaches. My intention is to capture how coaches continue to build their capacity. Data were gathered through multiple sources, in the form of interviews, observations, a focus group, field notes, reflection journal and artifacts. I then analyzed the data to look for themes. Three major themes emerged through this research and several implications are made for literacy coaches, principals, district leadership, professional development providers, university programs and school systems.

Using Frequent, Unannounced, Focused, And Short Classroom Observations To Support Classroom Instruction, Lawrence T. Cook Dec 2015

Using Frequent, Unannounced, Focused, And Short Classroom Observations To Support Classroom Instruction, Lawrence T. Cook

Dissertations

This paper examines the need to do more frequent, short (10- to 15-minute), unannounced, and focused classroom observations to support classroom instruction. Currently, the state requires at least one to three classroom observations per teacher; the number of observations is based on tenured and rating status. Classroom observations consist of at least a 15- to 30-minute pre-observation, a 30- to 60-minute observation, and a 30- to 45-minute postobservation. The diagnostic framework of Wagner, Kegan, Lahey, Lemons, Garnier, Helsing, Howell, and Rasmussen’s (2006) systemic change plan was used. The process looked at current (As-Is) and future (To-Be) status of an organization …

Biomineralization And Biocompatibility Studies Of Bone Conductive Scaffolds Containing Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene):Poly(4-Styrene Sulfonate) (Pedot:Pss), Mostafa Yazdimamaghani, Mehdi Razavi, Masoud Mozafari, Daryoosh Vashaee, Hari Kotturi, Lobat Tayebi

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Considering the well-known phenomenon of enhancing bone healing by applying electromagnetic stimulation, manufacturing conductive bone scaffolds is on demand to facilitate the delivery of electromagnetic stimulation to the injured region, which in turn significantly expedites the healing procedure in tissue engineering methods. For this purpose, hybrid conductive scaffolds composed of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), poly (4-styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), gelatin (Gel), and bioactive glass (BaG) were produced employing freeze drying technique. Concentration of PEDOT:PSS were optimized to design the most appropriate conductive scaffold in terms of biocompatibility and cell proliferation. More specifically, scaffolds with four different compositions of 0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.6 % …

Adaptive Change For An All Boys College Preparatory Public Middle School: A Change Leadership Project, Carla L. Sparks Dr. Dec 2015

Adaptive Change For An All Boys College Preparatory Public Middle School: A Change Leadership Project, Carla L. Sparks Dr.

Dissertations

As a result of district, state, and national attention on academic achievement, as measured by state assessment tests and end of course examinations, teacher and school leaders at the school identified for this Change Leadership Project (CLP) have worked diligently to raise student rigor and achievement. However, they have used largely instructional practices that rely heavily on the work of educators rather than emphasizing the engagement of students. This CLP provides the basis for a paradigm shift in instructional practice that promotes a full understanding of the value of authentic learning, project based learning, exhibitions of mastery, and capstone projects …

Vicarious Shame, Narrative, Social Reconnection And Public Recognition In Bamporiki’S Sin To Them, Shame On Me, Rangira Béa Gallimore Dec 2015

Vicarious Shame, Narrative, Social Reconnection And Public Recognition In Bamporiki’S Sin To Them, Shame On Me, Rangira Béa Gallimore

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

Sin to Them, Shame on Me is a testimony by the Rwandan writer, filmmaker and peace advocate, Bamporiki, who suffers from vicarious shame because of the crime of genocide that Hutu perpetrators committed against Tutsis in the name of the group. His testimony redeems his sense of self by acknowledging the wrongdoing of his group, yet it also represents a step that separates him from that group. His powerful testimonial narratives allow him to associate with genocide survivors and the world, and to develop a new identity as a Rwandan. The polymorphic narrative structure of his written testimony in which …

Quelques Réflexions Sur Les Épilogues De Beloved Et De Célanire Cou-Coupé : Ariane Et La Mygale, Anne Debrosse

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

This paper focuses on the links between Ariadne or Arachne on the one hand and Sethe and Célanire on the other hand, the protagonists of Toni Morrison’s Beloved and Maryse Condé’s Célanire cou-coupé. Weaving and sewing are often used as metaphors of the texts ; however, Condé and Morrison play with that metaphor and redefine this hackneyed common place.

Nuovi Dati Sulla Produzione Ceramica Tipo Thapsos Di Area Etnea: Il Caso Di Grotte Di Marineo (Licodia Eubea, Catania), Davide Tanasi

History Faculty Publications

The general lack of data about the technological features of the production represents the main problem of the archaeological research on Sicilian prehistoric. In particular, about the Middle Bronze Age, a period corresponding to the Thapsos culture and its three chronological phases (15th-13th century BC), the only studies available are those about Aeolian islands and still nothing exists for Sicily. The present paper aims to bridge this gap discussing the ceramic materials found at Grotte di Marineo, a prehistoric cave site explored in 1988-1989. Middle Bronze Age contexts at Grotte di Marineo were represented by the test pit 2 (layers …

Developing A Method For Assessing National Demand-Response Transit Level Of Service, Ranjit Prasad Godavarthy, Jeremy Mattson, Del Peterson, Jill Hough Dec 2015

Developing A Method For Assessing National Demand-Response Transit Level Of Service, Ranjit Prasad Godavarthy, Jeremy Mattson, Del Peterson, Jill Hough

Journal of Public Transportation

Demand-response transit service is a major source of mobility for older adults and people with disabilities in both urban and rural areas in United States. Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant programs under sections 5307, 5310, and 5311 all have components designed to increase the availability of paratransit or demand-response transit service. However, there is little information in the National Transit Database (NTD) or elsewhere about the extent of demand-response transit service coverage across the country. The lack of data makes it a challenge to identify gaps in service and unmet needs. The primary objective of this study was to fill …
