Respon Tanaman Mawar Batik (Rosa Hybrida L.) Dengan Penggunaan Konsentrasi 1–Methylcyclopropene (1–Mcp) Pada Beberapa Tingkat Kemekaran Bunga, Yayat Rochayat Suradinata, A. Wulansari
Jurnal Kultivasi

Biophysical Studies Of Transmembrane Helix Dimerization, Edwin Li
Amgen Seminar Series in Chemical Engineering
My research lab works towards the understanding of the physical and chemical principles governing the interaction of membrane proteins. Of particular interest is the role of the transmembrane domains in these interactions. The focus, thus far, has been on fibroblast growth factor receptors and mucin proteins and the formation of dimers. These membrane proteins are important because they regulate many vital cellular processes. Furthermore, diseases may arise when homo- and heterodimerization are not controlled properly due to mutations or overexpression of the membrane protein. Thus, these studies may provide useful information towards the development of better therapeutics. I will present …

Gamete Donor Anonymity And Limits On Numbers Of Offspring: The Views Of Three Stakeholders, Margaret K. Nelson, Rosanna Hertz
Gamete Donor Anonymity And Limits On Numbers Of Offspring: The Views Of Three Stakeholders, Margaret K. Nelson, Rosanna Hertz
Faculty Research and Scholarship
This paper discusses the attitudes of three groups of stakeholders in the world of assisted reproduction gamete donors, parents who use donated gamete, and offspring conceived with donated gametes with respect to the two issues of donor anonymity and limits on the number of offspring a single donor can produce. The data are drawn from on-line surveys which were made available between May 12, 2104 and August 15, 2014 to gamete donors, donor-conceived offspring, and parents who used donated gametes to conceive. A total of 325 donors (176 egg donors; 149 sperm donors) responded to the survey as did 2134 …

Impact Of Natural Organic Matter On Particle Behavior And Phototoxicity Of Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles, Shibin Li, Hongbo Ma, Lindsay K. Wallis, Matthew A. Etterson, Benjamin Riley, Dale J. Hoff, Stephen A. Diamond
United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications
Due to their inherent phototoxicity and inevitable environmental release, titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nano- TiO2) are increasingly studied in the field of aquatic toxicology. One of the particular interests is the interactions between nano-TiO2 and natural organic matter (NOM). In this study, a series of experiments was conducted to study the impacts of Suwannee River natural organic matter (SRNOM) on phototoxicity and particle behaviors of nano-TiO2. For Daphnia magna, after the addition of 5 mg/L SRNOM, LC50 value decreased significantly from 1.03 (0.89–1.20) mg/L to 0.26 (0.22–0.31) mg/L. For zebrafish larvae, phototoxic LC50 values were …

The presence of anthocyanins in flowers and fruits is frequently attributed to attracting pollinators and dispersers. In vegetative organs, anthocyanins and other non-pigmented flavonoids such as flavones and flavonols may serve protective functions against UV radiation, cold, heat, drought, salinity, pathogens, and herbivores; thus, these compounds are usually produced as a plastic response to such stressors. Although, the independent accumulation of anthocyanins in reproductive and vegetative tissues is commonly postulated due to differential regulation, the accumulation of flavonoids within and among populations has never been thoroughly compared. Here, we investigated the shore campion (Silene littorea, Caryophyllaceae) which exhibits …

Seed Germination Ecology Of The Cold Desert Annual Isatis Violascens (Brassicaceae): Two Levels Of Physiological Dormancy And Role Of The Pericarp, Yuan M. Zhou, Juan J. Lu, Dun Y. Tan, Carol C. Baskin, Jerry M. Baskin
Biology Faculty Publications
The occurrence of various species of Brassicaceae with indehiscent fruits in the cold deserts of NW China suggests that there are adaptive advantages of this trait. We hypothesized that the pericarp of the single-seeded silicles of Isatis violascens restricts embryo expansion and thus prevents germination for 1 or more years. Thus, our aim was to investigate the role of the pericarp in seed dormancy and germination of this species. The effects of afterripening, treatment with gibberellic acid (GA3) and cold stratification on seed dormancy-break were tested using intact silicles and isolated seeds, and germination phenology was monitored in …

Curcumin Conjugates For Treating And Preventing Cancers, William Hansel, Sita Aggarwal, Robert P. Hammer
Pennington Biomedical Research Center Patents
Conjugating LHRH to curcumin (LHRH-Curcumin) substantially enhances the bioavailability of curcumin, targets it to cells expressing LHRH receptors, facilitates intravenous administration, and increases the anti-cancer efficacy of curcumin. The conjugate may be used against cancer cells that express the LHRH receptor: pancreas, prostate, breast, testicular, uterine, ovarian, melanoma. LH-Curcumin conjugates may be used against cancer cells that express the LH receptor: prostate, breast, ovary, testis, uterus, pancreas, and melanoma.

Building A Culture Of Hope For Youth At Risk: Supporting Learners With Optimism, Place, Pride, And Purpose, Emily L. Gibson, Robert D. Barr
National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Journal
A Culture of Hope provides a blueprint for schools wanting to meet the social/emotional needs of youth placed at risk. While the importance of meeting students’ social/emotional needs is clearly supported in the literature and in the media, teachers and administrators may need help in determining where and how to start. This essay introduces the Culture of Hope, provides an overview of the four Seeds of Hope, and shares links to student and staff surveys as well as methods for analyzing surveys to reveal student and staff needs.
The Short- And Long-Term Effects Of Child Abuse And Their Implications For The Suggested Length Of Physical And Psychosocial Treatment Regimens, Christine M. Ruff
The Short- And Long-Term Effects Of Child Abuse And Their Implications For The Suggested Length Of Physical And Psychosocial Treatment Regimens, Christine M. Ruff
Senior Honors Theses
Child abuse is the physical, psychological, or neglectful maltreatment of a child by a caregiver. Intimate partner violence relates closely to child mistreatment. Children are not likely to disclose that their parent or guardian is abusing them. Child abuse may result in short-term consequences, long-term consequences, or death. Some negative outcomes of maltreatment include delinquency, mental health issues, physical problems, educational underachievement, and socioeconomic disparities. The cycle of mistreatment is when a parent who suffered abuse as a child is more likely to maltreat his or her own child. There are factors that protect from the consequences of mistreatment. Research …
